It does help, but only the minus armor part. Whereas shivas makes her far more durable and makes it far easier to chase targets down. Things that are more important to a DP than -5 armor on the enemy.

My guess is that there are better heroes to build AC on, such as Doom, Bristleback, Lycan, etc. The attack speed from AC isn't especially helpful on DP in particular, and Shivas and Heart both have high impact on her because they give her more survivability with the active and passive aura on Shivas and the regen + massive health pool increase on Heart.
And as the above poster mentioned, Shivas definitely gives you chase as well.
that all depends on whether or not you plan on utilizing sunstrike before needing the extra regen from quas orbs. if your team is saying that you might want to have sunstrike ready, do it. if not, get the quas point before spending a point on invoke.
You might also consider how easy/hard your lane is. If it's a really hard lane where you actually need that +str and regen from quas to survive, then you're going to have to do it. If it's an easy lane and you have a good amount of regen, you might consider exort-invoke even if your side-lanes aren't telling you you'll need it. Could come in handy. If you're not under pressure or getting ganked, the trip from level 2-3 won't take too long and you can pick up your quas then.

I do it if im mid unless i get ganked at level 1 and need the extra regen or something. You dont want to have orbs on quas unless you've taken damage, and as a 600 range hero that rarely happens in the first few creep waves. The sunstrike can land you FB, which is huge towards getting boots or midas if you have a strong kill lane to use it in.
I don't play Invoker but I've seen it recommended to take Invoke at level 2 because it will be off cooldown for a second spell immediately when you hit level 3. But obviously the above considerations apply.
How does sleight of fist interact with auras? Say another person on your team has vlads and have of the enemies within the sleight of fist aoe are in the area of effect of the vlads and the other half aren't?
What S4 most likely talked about is that people you RP end up infront of you so if you turn around before using RP skewering people back becomes a lot easier/quicker to do.

easy you click behind you and press rp straight away. you will cast rp while your hero is turning just make sure you have fast fingers this is particularly useful in mid lane when you have 2 lvls in skewer (ie. lvl 6) casting rp while facing their tower means you have to cover more ground with skewer. if the enemy comes towards the creeps and you can turn around and rp, youve already covered another ~200 range skewering the enemy from that position into your tower becomes much easier

could even be a scrims if it wasn't too clowning
Here is one example from MLG Columbus. If you search "MLG Columbus Dota 2 Turtle Beach Team Speak" or something like that you can find the other ones from the event.
These are the only team communication audio released from any major team/event. Although Valve said they would release team audio, the teams had requested that they not be released (for good reason too). MLG Columbus was the first and probably the last time we'll ever get to hear team comms.
