How do you analyze your own replays? I'm trying to improve (playing in high bracket) but I'm not always sure what to look out for when I'm watching myself. I usually check things like vision and responses (eg. if I get hooked by a Pudge while farming, should I have been more careful in lane based on what I saw?), standard decision-making (did I erroneously tower dive/not tower-dive), last-hitting in lane matchups, etc. - obviously things like teamfight positioning are important too but I'm not sure what I should be looking out for. Seeing as my bracket is relatively low I'm not looking to blame teammates or anything - so in terms of looking at individual performance in a game, what is the best way to improve from watching replays? Thanks!

I don't - that's why I'm just asking about how to improve personal skill at this point in time. EDIT: As in, I've seen some poor initiations from teammates - but looking at replays that's not something I can control. So how do we review replays to make the best decisions based on the external environment (etc.)

Was it really safe to take that last creep ? If you lost the game, think if you couldve ganked better, or positionned yourself better in teamfight. I don't like rewatching my replay, it feels narcissic. Do you mind expanding? Sounds interesting but at my skill level I don't know what I should be doing. I only watch replays where I lose - if we won, even if I didn't play perfectly (or anywhere near perfectly), it's not worth watching.

Just like in starcraft, watching reps of yourself losing is a great way to improve your play. It's only narcissistic if you watch reps of yourself winning :p

Were you in the right place at the right time? Did you not focus enough on keeping down their carry, or did you not farm enough as a carry, or did you not keep the map warded continuously as a support? Did you not carry TP's enough resulting in not being able to TP to countergank? Were you caught too far out of position repeatedly without having vision of the area?

usually i go QWQWQ ult QW E E E ult E. i get my boots, finish eul than (sage mask and void first), finish phase-boots than and go into aghanims. most of the time the game will end around this time and here the dmg-outpu is quite serious. when i get a good cask-stun or other mates the bounce of my ult take quite some dmg from the other side (usually i wont get focused ebcause of our low skill-lvl) not sure if this is the best way, but so far eul is very convincing in my eyes because of MS, disable and manareg. and its so damn cheap. after ~100 games my WD occupies 26 games, all other heroes <6 games. i found out i suck as carry and can act decent as support.

Of course, if it is clear from the outset that you won't be doing much fighting enemy heroes early, then Max stun with 1 in heal is decent. Levelling your heal doesn't make it much better IIRC, or at least doesn't make it any more efficient. WD is generally a dedicated 5 position so that means Wards/Courier/Flying Courier/More Wards/Sentries/Dust. Luxuries are bracers and mana boots (and a point booster into aghanims if something really weird happens and maledict gets like 5 lasthits in 1 teamfight).

Do we need to be defensive? Stun and heal. It's really situational really, good items on WD include stuff like Urn, Tranquil boots, Drum, medallion, Forcestaff, ghost staff, BKB and aghanim. And of course the usual support stuff like wards and sentries and dust and gems if needed. Some are more expensive than others, but i personally feel that WD doesn't really need that much mana regen(Amazing base INT and INT gain) and he already had super high base move-speed which is why tranqs+drum feel amazing on him to me. Euls is okay, but there are a lot of other items i'd rather get on him, not that it's bad, but it'd definitely not be what i would go for. Again, it really depends on your own line-up and the line-up of the enemy, it's pretty damn situational. As it is with most things in DotA.
