Smoke break range is 1025 while normal night time vision is 800 (but 1800 for Night Stalker)--meaning that at night their team will actually unsmoke before they see you. While typically this doesn't actually happen because of terrain/etc., Night Stalker having flying vision with Aghanim's means its extraordinarily hard to smoke against him.

I require some lane information. I've read laning guides, hero picking guides, etc but I still haven't seen the information I'm looking for.
From what I understand, (generally) the safe lane should be for your teams strongest carry and then a babysitter. Mid should be for a hero that will be able to make use of the bonus experience gain, so either a good ganker, or a good carry mid. Then the hard lane should be used by heroes that can escape easily or survive against potential ganks.
So my question is, where do heroes like Kunkka go? Kunkka is a bit of a semi-carry, so it would seem that putting him in the safe lane would be good, but then wouldn't your team lose late-game versus a team with a hard-carry? So then you could put him middle, but Kunkka doesn't seem like a really good mid hero either, his stun is tricky to aim and he's a good farmer but not necessarily a terrific ganker. Then there's the hard lane, but Kunkka doesn't have fast movement speed or an escape skill.
Is this just a good reason why Kunkka isn't used? A hero like axe would be another example. I've heard jungling an axe isn't actually the best way to go about using him, but you don't want to mid with him, and he's not as good as hard-carries so it seems like putting him in the safe-lane is a bad idea, but he has no escape skill so hard lane doesn't seem ideal.
I've heard it's a decent idea to have a pusher, an initiator, a hard support, a carry, and a ganker - so the support and carry go safe lane, the ganker hopefully is middle, and then the pusher and initiator go bottom? I'm just having a hard time understanding how much of a hard and fast rule it is to have an escape skill if you're going to be in the hard lane. Sorry if my question is confusing, I'm trying to get better at DOTA 2 and this question is really affecting my play it seems.
|
ur overthinking it, just win your lanes and then win the game
kunkka's usually best in mid so he can gank sidelanes with stuns or push down the tower quickly, or in the safe lane with a disabler he's not used because he's weaker than other heroes that fill similar roles (like sven and magnus and beastmaster), not because of issues with laning. i think if he had a bit more armor he'd be way more usable tho
axe should jungle and gank mid/safe lane a lot cus battle hunger owns. he jungles really fast too alternately he can creepskip the long lane but that's really lineup dependent
|
Axe is quite annoying in lane at lower skill levels since people freak out when they get hit by battle hunger and aren't able to last hit, but (like Dead9 said) he should definitely jungle. Counter helix clears stacked camps so frickin fast.
The lanes that you put heroes in are really dependent on your team comp / in-game goals, as well as the opposing team's heroes, so it's hard to say. Kunkka can work in any lane really, but which one is best is heavily dependent on the circumstances in game.

Can anyone link/recommend recent ingame replays for learning lanaya? High level matches only please that I can get free in the client, thinking of some DHW games maybe?

Look for Empire games where Scandal is playing TA. He's probably one of the best who was at the event.

what i'm asking i guess is, for the hard lane is it competitively viable to put a hero without an escape skill there? or is it that it can work but only if my opponents aren't very good.

I think she was picked more in TI2 than in DHW. Well the above fixes that lol Missed out on the Empire games
TI2 games
IG vs EG WB game 1 DK vs Darer Losers Bracket DK vs Zenith Losers Bracket IG vs DK Losers Semi's Game 3 IG vs Na`Vi Grand Finals game 1 IG vs Na`Vi Grand Finals game 4
To add a question that I've been wondering. Been watching some replays of Arts-Art playing Lesh at TI2 and was wondering the reasoning behind him going arcanes some games and treads in others. Also why he decides to build an Urn.
Also is the more viable build now to go split earth/lighting and get edict later or stick with split earth/edict and just use the normal skill build before the edict nerf?
Edit: added tournament Edit 2: added quote from DHW Edit 3: added my own question to avoid double post

Beastmaster is a pretty common hero to play offlane without an escape skill. Tidehunter is also relatively popular. It is generally easier to play offlane with a hero like Windrunner, Magnus, or Darkseer where you can zoom zoom out though.

The whole escape thing for the hardlane is only really for if you are soloing the hardlane. In most pubs there are 2 people on the hardlane, making it similar to the safe lane if you block the pull camp. In pubs the only thing I really worry about in the side lanes is having both a support and a ranged hero. Pubs are far from perfect.
But having a no escape lane is fine sometimes - beastmaster can stack ancients for farm, and tidehunter doesn't really need farm only XP. Some other heroes have abilities that can be used at long range to farm (clock and kotl come to mind). And in a pub, you could probably play any hero solo offlane if you stay back and only try to take XP and not last hits - its even safe to last hit sometimes because pub lanes tend to be terrible and they may not have the killing power to take you if you don't over extend.

What is a way to determine which of his clones is real? In alot of public games he sometimes goes 16-0 or any other crazily high score, I know there must be a simple counter other then counter picking but right now i cant think of it.
This comes with experience. After a few hundred games you will most of the time see who is the real one. Either cause of the correct one being microed, or you will see that the real one hits way harder than the clones. Another great way is to gank him right when he backs up since he'll leave his copies. Also, dust is the key to PL as with all invis heroes. Which copy is the right one shouldn't really be a problem, any single aoespell will instantly reveal it. It's more about ganking him with dusts and timing, not letting his copies freefarm all game. His new agigain make him such a pubstomper just by pure dmg. People will rarely go for surviability though, since they feel stealth is enough.

Ah, yes forgot about scandal. Will have a look thanks. I prefer DHW games as they are this version though.

I need a bit of tech support. I recently changed my graphics card to an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 650. Dota 2 runs perfectly fine in-game, but after I get out of game the menu is extremely laggy, like 2 fps in the chat rooms, looking for game tab, store, etc. Using task manager, I noticed that my Dota 2 process shoots up from using about 400,000k memory when it first runs up to over a gig after I play a game. The weird part is, it only affects the menus. In-game is perfectly smooth, although I still prefer to resart after every game because it slows down firefox when alt tabbing, etc.
Any ideas on what causes this? It only happens in Dota 2 and I haven't found any support with google, although maybe I'm not searching for the right things...

do spells deal 100% damage by default or is there some base hero magic resist

Dota 2's memory usage is pretty dubious. When you launch a game, it loads all the resources necessary (including hero resources) into memory. That is why it is laggy after but not before. Can't speak for why the menus lag and not the game, although it happens to me as well. A graphics card with more memory, and more system memory in general, may help you.

Heroes have 25% Magic resistance. Additional magic resistance items/abilities stack with diminishing % returns (I believe the EHP is not diminishing though). EG: 25% magic resist, + a cloak (15%), = 36.25% (25% + (0.75 * 15%)). 36.25% is 15% more "EHP vs magic" than 25% though. Magic resist items DO NOT STACK.

try specifying
+dota_embers 0
in the launch options (right click on dota in steam, properties -> set launch options) and see if that helps
You may need to toggle your console on and off once in game to get it to work, basically you want the embers animation in the background to stop occurring.
This is something that gives me great trouble regularly (though causes my pc to crash and not just lag, but it seems to cause quite a few responses for different people). Some people also have an issue with highly populated chat channels causing lag so you could try not having any open for a bit and see how that goes too.

are there any good cost efficiency spreadsheets for this game? there are like a million for lol and they're usually pretty good.

Thanks, that totally worked, but I had to enable it in the console - "dota_embers 0", for some reason the startup option didn't work for me.
