So? They are pretty much identical. edit: Just realised that you were the original asker of the question hence you might be completely new to Dota. Dota 2 is essentially a remake of Dota 1 with better graphics, engine and overall experience. But the heroes, spells, items etc are virtually identical. As such, any guide for Dota 1 can also be applied to Dota 2.

Most heroes have some amount of mana regen that satisfies their normal spell usage, and beyond that point, mana regen is naturally going to become less and less useful (no point in getting more mana/regen if you can cast all your spells when you want, since you're still limited by cooldowns regardless). Where this point is depends on the hero. In many cases, your needs don't even require actual mana regeneration, but restoration items that provide fixed mana boosts (Arcane Boots, Magic Wand, Bottle, Soul Ring, etc.). Note also, that even if you want to maximize your mana regeneration, you shouldn't purely be buying the mana regen % stat. Mana regen % as is provided by Sobi Mask, Void Stone, and comparable items is calculated as a % of your base regen, which is in turn based off your Intelligence.

You're generally not going to get the "perfect" mix because you're going to be buying items that give both (Sheepstick, Eul's, etc.) and you're going to also want other stats.

Q U Q U Q R 2 branch, quelling blade into Wand>Boots>soulring>POwer treads This part is working out fine for me so far, but I'm lost after this and am not really sure where I should be headed.

they're not optimal or anything but they're good enough after a while you can start branching out to other stuff

I used http://www.dotafire.com/dota-2/heroes when I was starting out, although even when I copied the top rated builds and queued with my far more experienced friend I often had him calling my builds shit.. I think fast Armlet on SK is nice though, I assumed we're talking about Skeleton King and not Sand King here. Might be worth checking out anyway, bound to be some good guides. Recommended items when you're starting out aren't terrible either like someone pointed out. Game gets a lot more fun when you learn the items and heroes and can make your own builds.

Is Q your stun and U supposed to be caustic finale? (For future reference, you should always refer to spells by their name rather than their hotkey, makes things easier for everyone.) Generally it's best to go stun - sandstorm - stun - sandstorm - stun - epicenter - stun. You don't want caustic finale early in most lanes because it pushes your lane too quickly, hurting your lane control and farm. That said, it is situationally good to get caustic finale early, such as when you're solo against a melee hero (the reason why he is picked to counter broodmother, for example). But other than that, you should go early sandstorm to escape easily.

He's incredibly strong especially if the other team commits to the fight, zombie slow + aoe decay can easily lead to trilane team wipes. Also how come he wasn't in the meta before (dota 1 and 2)?
