What gives you more EHP: Gauntlets of Strength and a branch or an RoP?
Now imagine you have 1000 HP and do the same calculation.
This principle applies across the spectrum and applies to evasion as well.

it gets worse "relatively" to your current situation as a % increase in benefit, and it's an important distinction because evasion and magic resistance do not work the same way. you cannot easily compare different variables if you are not thinking in percentages instead of absolute values.
I already got into a huge argument with a bunch of people over this and don't really feel like doing it again unless someone has something new to say that hasn't already been said..
this also isn't the right thread for it, can take it to PMs or a dedicated thread or something

going from 10 armour to 20 armour does not give u less ehp than going from 0 armour to 10 armour. however, it's less efficient in terms of gold spent (and inventory space). (eg. if u have 30 armour and only 1000 hp, u get more ehp for ur gold by buying a vit booster instead of another platemail)

What kind of salaries do upper-tier western Dota players make? Is it at all common for them to have equity in the team's sponsorship or merchandise sales?

but it's a linear increase which is what he's saying. he's saying you have to think in percentages. e.g. 1000ehp (0 armor) -> 1600ehp (10 armor) -> 2200ehp (20 armor). it's a 600ehp each time but it's a 60% increase and ~40% increase respectively, so a theoretical 50% evasion item is not worth it for 0->10 armor but it is for 10->20 armor.
at some point someone with influence said each armor gives you the same amount of ehp and people interpreted that to mean each point was equally valuable with no diminishing returns.
fwiw magic resist and evasion have the same next effect with slightly different mechanics (for magical and physical damage respectively of course). both work with the 1/1-x formula

I can't think of any dota players with any equity in their teams (I can for LoL though). I mean to have equity you'd have to be somewhat well off to begin with. C9/EG/Empire players no way and I can see it for secret (puppey investing in himself/secret with savings) but still doubt it

Companies can provide their employees forms of equity through stock options and profit sharing schemes though. I've never heard of it in esports either, which makes me curious. I did just read that Dendi makes like 30k before pots and any personal endorsements, which got me wondering.

Well unless navi distributes really consistent dividends that wouldn't seem to be the case. I can't see any esports teams not fully reinvesting profits into the growth of the organization. The point of stock options is to eventually exercise them and for a growing organization unlikely to be paying out to shareholders the only scenario you stand to realize a profit is if it's sold, really.

Why would you make the Crimson Guard upgrade to vanguard over Mek?

A teammate is already building Mek. You don't have the mana pool to support Mek. You are soft-6-slotted and don't want to dedicate an extra inventory slot to team defense.

Can spells' backswing be canceled by moveclick like orbwalking or must I click stop? e.g. I think if Lesh casts E into Q normally then he suffers E's backswing but if he clicks stop between the two casts he gets the stun off .77s earlier? Can this be done by moveclick cancelling backswing?

Backswings can be canceled by any active command, even another spellcast. You just have to use the second command during the backswing rather than queuing or buffering it beforehand (this is true even when using move, stop, or attack to cancel the backswing).
So you can cast E->Q "normally", provided that you issue the command to use Split Earth after Lightning Storm's animation has reached the cast point.

Huh, I thought that as a special case you could issue a move command during a cast frontswing and it would automatically cancel the backswing, which is why orb walking works.
(tested. Does not work the way I thought it did.)

Isn't orb walking just attacking in range of creeps, but they don't aggro because an orb is treated as a spellcast not an attack in that scenario?

i think he's describing stutter stepping (ie. moving during the attack backswing)
|
Now I'm extra confused. Are you talking about literally moving during the backswing, or cancelling the backswing with a move?
Orbwalking as far as I know has nothing to do with animation cancelling.
|
Wiki: "The advantage of a Unique Attack Modifier is that since it is considered a cast animation, it cannot be cancelled by issuing another command during the important part of the animation. If a command is issued during the animation, prior to the attack point, the backswing animation will be negated entirely, allowing the hero to continue chasing their target as efficiently as possible"
However, in-game tests indicate that the wiki is wrong about the backswing-negating behavior.

People keep abandoning my games, and my MMR is dropping significantly due to it. What do?
