Virtus Pro Advance
Virtus Pro vs Team Liquid
In our first game of the day, Liquid came out looking hot and took a decent early lead. However, neither team managed to secure an insurmountable lead. Finally, more than 45 minutes in VP managed to catch out Liquid one by one, ending up diving the tier 4 towers for the 4th Liquid hero despite not even having taken any tier 2 towers. After taking a first set of rax thanks to that engagement, VP managed to get another pick which they also capitalized on with a successful highground and Liquid tapped out at 52 minutes. In game 2, Virtus Pro opted for a Broodmother to go with their carry Venge, but neither of those heroes had a big enough impact after the laning phase as Liquid’s Gyro and Razor proved too strong in fights. Still, another close game that lasted almost 40 minutes. For game 3, Liquid started the draft very similarly to game 1 with the exact same first 3 picks but VP picked the Drow + Visage combo. G’s SF and Lil’s visage made too much use of the Drow aura, and Liquid were forced to tap out in a much faster game 3. Liquid were out.
OG vs EHOME
EHOME opted to mix up the draft a little bit in game 1, with a 4th pick Huskar without any dazzle backup. OG responded with a 5th pick meepo of their own, and EHOME finished with an Omniknight to heal their Huskar. While Huskar farmed well, EHOME were unable to restrict the farm of both SF and Meepo and OG looked pretty good. EHOME managed to take an incredible rosh fight, snatching the aegis and getting a rampage on CTY’s Huskar. With that aegis they attempted to go down mid, only to discover that Meepo was split pushing top and SF bottom. When EHOME committed mid, OG managed to take 2 of their raxes before EHOME could even finish the tier 3. Realizing that they had to end on the spot, EHOME pushed on to the tier 4s but even with Tuskar TP’ing home to try to slow down OG, they weren’t even close to fast enough to beat the damage from 5 meepos and an SF, losing game 1 in hilarious fashion. Game 2, OG tried a pushing lineup with DK and Lone Druid, but were unable to secure any momentum and ended up tapping out in just 23 minutes. In game 3, EHOME tried the new trendy strategy: Offlane Abbadon. Despite a decent early game for EHOME, Miracle’s SF snowballed from the very beginning and EHOME were forced to admit defeat and were eliminated.
OG vs Virtus Pro
Both teams had already won a series today, and while VP had had a longer break, their series was also a lot longer and more gruelling. VP picked an early Queen of Pain, not a hero that we've seen a lot of at this tournament but one that has been banned quite a bit on account of CTY. OG had a trick up their sleeve with a 5th pick Meepo, but VP still had a last pick to use on Sven. While the lanes were fairly close, G’s QoP started to take over the game and VP’s Sven kept the Meepo in check. G ended up a dominating 18-1 in just 36 minutes, and OG were back to the drawing board for game 2. They opted for an Invoker mid and a safelane Wraith King, while VP took more standard heroes and a support Disruptor. Lil put on a disruptor clinic, punishing Moon’s offlane Doom time after time and making Tusk’s life incredibly difficult with his ult. Meanwhile G did viper things and despite Notail’s strong farm on WK, OG were unable to put anything together. In the end, they had to give up in under 32 minutes, the first 2-0 series in the tournament not featuring Mineski. VP are on to the Lower Bracket Finals with Vici Gaming to see who will face EG in the Grand Finals.
