the first one is by far the hardest one to get. i hate networking but having connections with people makes it a lot easier to get the first one

I agree with Emu. It sounds really stupid but mental health is #1 by far. I am no gamburger, so I am not familiar with your unemployment rules, but I guess you don't have as much luxury as we have in germany and it's 100x more stressful than it is here. So fixing mental health is not easy.
But if someone goes into in interview while being dead inside, recruiters and senior people can smell it and won't hire unless they are desperate.

comeh, if you're making it to the interview stage but struggling to pass and want some kind of help I would be happy to get on a call with you or smth. I have conducted probably ~200 or ~250 software dev interviews in the last few years.
Also echoing what emu said that by far getting the first job is the hardest. And interviewing really does get easier over time.

Absolutely deserved. My home once got an infestation of hornets that somehow seeped through a gap and one of the fuckers bit me in my sleep. We went scorched earth on them and have no regrets.

Olympic soccer makes no sense cuz world cup.
Sending f-tier football players would be no problem because no serious NFL player would miss pre-season training to go beat up a bunch of bulgarians or whoever.
We have the same problem with our olympic basketball team. Players don't want to risk getting injured playing in a competition that pretty much overlaps with the NBA post season.
