The key to ME1 combat is biotics and tech powers, they allow you to disable and debuff even the strongest enemies. The clunky controls and gunplay matter much less when enemies are floating in the air, or can't shoot and use their own powers against you.+ Show Spoiler +

Just be careful when fighting the Rachni, as their acid attacks ignore shields (and the Barrier power) and can kill you with one or two melee hits if they get close.

Also, if you are playing with the original level scaling, level 19 is an imporant breakpoint for gear drops, as it unlocks new, better manufacturers in the droptable, and weapons, ammo and armor start dropping at level IV, making gear drops significantly stronger than below level 19. Also, they sell for much more at vendors, and you need credits both to buy gear upgrades, and to + Show Spoiler +

get the 1 million credits achievement that unlocks level VII Spectre weapons at certain vendors (C-Sec at the Citadel and the Normandy guy)

(classic) ME1 on Insanity difficulty is really brutal, snipers oneshot you with the red beam attack, many enemies spam Immunity which makes them bullet sponges, Krogan melee oneshots you, enemy biotics users are terrifying (+ Show Spoiler +

Benezia fight on Noveria haunts my dreams

the Rachni

are pure terror if you're lower level or just not ready for them. That being said, I enjoy the challenge it offers.

have you looked at the NA player counts?

EU (EU+RUS) has over 9 times more players than NA
SA has over 4 times more players than NA

it honestly just makes sense at this point for NA teams to fill their rosters with better players from other regions since there's just not many options to pick from

me1 feels much easier in the legendary edition
also i was dropping lvl9s by the end so even Saren didn't pose much of a threat

I've finally come around to playing Into the Breach.
It's hard. Beat it once on easy after getting my ass whopped a couple of times on normal and then upped the difficulty again. I'm kinda that I have yet to unlocked any additional mechs. My unwillingness to look anything up plays a role in that one.
