Well, the only ways to get faster are more move speed or more dps. Luckily, better boots with 12% movespeed fulfill both of these criteria, so I would suggest upgrading them to better boots with movespeed, and maybe lightning resist to mesh better with your other gear. I think you're at a point where upgrades for you are quite expensive (10m+).
For your spec, the cookie cutter build would replace Cyclone Strike with the Heal + 15% damage (can't remember names). This would give you a heal (which doesn't heal that much to begin with, but it's nice to have), and a permanent 15% damage buff, much much better than Cyclone Strike. I've always thought Exalted Soul was useless because 100 extra spirit is negligible once you're in the midst of a fight and are regaining spirit. As for what to use for that passive slot, some like Resolve, some like Guardian's Path if they dual wield, some like Fleet Footed if they're obscenely geared.
There's a lot of stuff in act 3 that can be problematic, even the most geared of us can be blocked by a ridiculous mob type + affixes combination (albeit this is less likely because they removed invulnerable minions). There comes a point when you're scaling up your dps that you can kill elites in one round of cooldowns. Once you get to that point life will be much easier.

Considering quite some people in here have testet around with tempest rush: Is it just me or has it a tendency to "lag you out" for a little moment ? I found myself dying a few times when I used tempest rush to get out of mobs while I have a desecration spawning under me, and then seeing myself a) a few meters away and 1 second later b) inside said desecration. My latency is usually pretty decent, and everytime that happened I checked it and it was about 70 ms max.
On the other hand, while I´m at it : most monks use FoT. Do you all have that much dps that you just drop an elite in a blind/serenity ? I find the little teleport that is attached to it in most cases more annoying than helpful, as I find it extremely difficult to position myself vs mobs with plagued / molten (moreso molten though). For me it was enough reason to switch back to crippling wave, at first for the survivability with concussion anyways, and now with mangle.
I pretty much have no problems in A3 anymore, but that were 2 questions that bothered me for a while, so I thought I´d ask you
profile, should it be needed
|
We all use FoT because it does the most dps, gives the most health back (from LoH), regenerates the most spirit, and the little teleport is useful. Really, none of the spirit generators are even close to the effectiveness of FoT. As for the teleport, it's a matter of getting used to positioning with the teleport, and having enough LoH/Lifesteal to pretty much stand in plague/have enough time to get out of molten. Using shift+click can help with positioning, as long as you're not clicking on a mob (because you'd teleport to that mob, and meet your demise shortly thereafter).
As for the Tempest Rush question, I can't address that, I don't use it.

I don't think 1.0.5 is going to affect dual wielding in any way. Yes, they are hitting survavibility but at the same time they said that they are going to weave it into other stuff so that it evens out. Dual wield might even turn out to be better, slap on two LoH weapons and go crazy.
|
regarding fot, I played with it since lvl6 or whatever level it is you get your first rune.
I just can't imagine running the teleport range to each and every mob I want to hit. The only time I dropped it was pre-1.03 a3 farming, since deadly reach + keen eye was pretty much the only way to play. And I pretty much hated it, even with the 40% or whatever +attack speed I had at the time.
FoT + TC is simply amazing. The attack speed, the spirit generation, the AOE, the teleport. It's the signature skill that makes the monk fun and awesome as he is. I honestly can't imagine what blizzard would have to do to other 3 spirit generators and the other FoT runes to make them nearly as good and attractive as FoT+TC is
update: i don't even want to remember how dumb it is to chase goblins without FOT+TC. but i just did, and it's awful and no self-respecting monk wants to do that to himself.

So they nerf the defensive abilities...where are the offensive abilities to replace them? Since 1.04 i was already using fleet footed instead of resolve.. what do i replace the dex2armor skill with?

The one boring skill that gives damage is the combination passive, for a boring generic+8% damage,
Other options would be chant of resonance or maybe exalted soul because spirit gen is a pretty good stat in larger amounts.

Monk is gravely missing an offensive passive with some kind of bonus for dual-wielding fists or using a daibo.

Just need a passive like this
Focused Strikes -20% attack speed +10% critical hit chance +30% damage Spirit generation increased by 15% It is said that the monk Shenlong, after meditating for a day, could bring down a mountain with a single strike.
It changes how you play from an autocentric class towards a nuke based class with autos as filler.

I'm having a huge debate in my head right now. I have 45mil on me and I want to buy a few items for my monk. Now, the thing is I'm really a sucker for set items, and Blackthorne 4 piece seems awesome because of the LoH pants and all the MF and GF it has. But then comes the problem, the pants are godlike, but Inna's set 2 piece (the 120dex) is also quite awesome, so how do I weave those two together?
I was thinking of getting Innas's head and pants, while getting boots, chest, neck and belt from Blackthorne, but I'm not sure if that's optimal. Down the line I will also most likely get the Howling host (or something) ring set, together with some sweet weapons, but right now I want to work on my armor pieces.
I also notice that both Inna's and Blackthorne sets are a bit low (or even completely void) of AR, and seeing as im a fire resistance monk with already too little AR, that could be a real problem. I'm talking about 10-20mil pieces, I'm sure some 300mil set piece has all I need but that is not realistic.
Please help!

i'd say to start shopping for it, and just get the first four pieces you can for good prices. Right now, the amulet and belt are really expensive, while the surcoat, pants and spurs went down in price (well aside from the really good ones). But just keep looking, eventually you'll find deals on everything. As for survivability, don't worry with the Blacthorne set. You get reduced damage from elites on the boots and as a set bonus, which is easily worth 140 all res, and the surcoat has a guaranteed 70+ AR. Just get fire on everything and you're more than fine, mostly if you get the high vit version of the chest. The high armor and regen on boots and belt helps a ton as well.
I was thinking about the two piece Inna's as well, or Natalya's for the sweet crits, but those are more expensive than the whole blackthorne set. So I ended up with the blackthorne set, and a Litany of the Undaunted, because that ring is awesome, and I found a good poison Mempo (what are the odds?) so I gave up on the rest, since my clear time is close to optimal anyway.
Btw, you'll want to snipe late auctions for the belt, and probably 1d12h for the amulet if you want an underpriced dex/fire one. Flip an item on the RMAH to get about 30$ too so you can look for deals there too. I ended up buying an underpriced pair of cold Jousting Mail for 16M and selling it for 58$ to get started with my blackthorne set.

So I came back to playing D3 after 1.0.4, and got me some new stuff on the AH after reading through this topic here. I can now clear A3 pretty good. Sometimes I don't die all run, but then sometimes I run into a mob with plagued + molten en then I just die within seconds . Also I find that, while I can clear the act pretty good, my clear time is pretty high. So I was wondering which of my equipment really needs upgrading so I can boost my dps a bit (looking for about 30k without the buff from blazing wrath). I'm on a pretty tight budget (I have just about 5 mil now) so I can't really buy the ultimate stuff

My advice would be to replace your right weapon with a crit damage+socket weapon and your left ring with a 3.5%crit chance one. Don't be afraid to drop some health to do it, at your resist levels you could probably drop down to 33-35k before you start having any trouble.

I finally got time to do some of the build comparison trials I wanted. I decided I would time the same run 3 times with 3 different builds.
It's a few pages back, but here's my profile.
The run: Keep Depths 2 > Keep Depths 3 > Stonefort level 1 > Arreat Core > Azmodan. No deaths, all enemies killed. Only 61+ yellows picked up.
Standard Breath of Heaven Build
21:44 18:49 20:25
20:19 average
Cyclone Strike Build.
20:54 19:34 18:54
19:47 average
Tempest Rush Build.
17:57 20:35 19:26
19:19 average
I just want to state right now that this is not enough runs to really mean much of anything. I was mostly just looking to see if tempest rush gave an obvious and large advantage, which does not seem to be the case. At best it's 5%~ better than BoH without significant gear/skill changes beyond what I ran. If you look at the build you'll see I trade fleet footed for exalted soul. This is because I can't do deathless runs without OWE for the moment, otherwise I would do run Fleet/Seize/Exalted.
Take what you will away from this tiny experiment. I'm taking away away that for my low crit, high attack speed gear set, these 3 builds are completely exchangeable and which is better comes down to play style preference.
Two other things I played around with a bit and just wanted to comment on. I bought a Flying Dragon Daibo and a Tzo Krin's Graze with 2.2 spirit regen. With my gear, the Daibo was utterly terrible for Tempest Rush. Yes, I could sprint a lot longer, but its low attack speed made gathering spirit back after an engagement just about impossible. It also made my 800 LoH close to useless and I died about 7 times in the 45 minutes I was playing with it. The Tzo Krin's Gaze was nice and made Tempest Rush a lot more viable for me. It gave me a total of about 4.5 spirit regen and it made it a lot easier to budget my spirit during fights (Spam Overawe without as much worry). The only problem is that I cannot find a TKG with both spirit regen and a socket on the AH. It's absolutely not worth a few %'s of efficiency to lose my 27% EXP gem.

Good post sir. get bigger sample now trying with tempewt myself but it feels odd... all comes down to style i think
|
I don't think that the point of the TR build is to clear absolutely every mob. It's more of a way to search for elite packs while skipping through everything else with movement speed and no mob collision.
|
How does the movement speed cap work? Is it 25% from items and then stuff like tailwind and fleet foot still work?
|
The point really isn't to clear every mob I agree. However, I chose the zones for the run based on mob density and typical proximity from one group of enemies to the next, to limit back tracking and whatnot. I felt that clearing the zone out was a good way to keep myself consistent. It's not a fair test against BoH/Cyclone Strike if I skip things when using Tempest Rush and not with them.
@Slayer91, the gear cap is 25%. Fleet footed and Tailwind are not counted in the 25%.

Ooooook, I know I wrote a lot here in the past few days, but the culmination is here! I bought a few items and I'm happy with it. The problem I still have is the lacking DPS (I'm so jelly of my barb friend who's critting for 600k...) and again, low AR. In a week or so I should be able to farm up enough for a low end Mempo or Inna's helm (Andariel helm is too expencive...), or maybe Lacuni's instead, still not sure.
Again, gearing advice is always welcome. I'm still suprisingly squishy (that's putting it too strong, I can't stand in desecrate and A3 zones before Azmodan are a bit hard, dying a few times to elites), and I want to squeeze out 10-20k more deeps.

Hm. You have low LoH and resistances so I don't think you should run with Mantra of Conviction. I'd run Mantra of Evasion + Hard target with your build, it lowers your DPS but you gain a lot of survivability.
With my gear, which is similar but slightly more res and 1k LoH, I tried out Conviction, but felt I couldn't stand vs elites well enough, I'm running with Mantra of Evasion + Backlash, it works fine for me.
I'd say try to find rings with +crit, +LoH, FR and dex in that order. You want to be around 1K LoH.
My gear: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Reivax-2574/hero/10034511
I spent a lot of gold (around 5M) this week to boost my dex properly, but neglected my resistances (went from over 800 to 600something). However coupled with buying high-armor items, I seem to be taking ok damage while having 10K more DPS. Now, if I could only find an off-hand with +200Dex, LoH, 90+ crit and a socket I'll be a happy camper....
EDIT: I'll give my soul for boots with 200+ Dex, Allres, Ligthres and 12% movespeed too -.-. The boots are the only gear I found myself, the rest is from AH.
