That video just shows how to craft an item that could possibly be used to open a theoretical cow level though, kind of overselling it imo.

There is a cow level. It contains rainbow ponies. One of the mats for the staff is "Liquid Rainbow" do you honestly think that Liquid rainbow could be used on anything else in the Diablo universe? Doesn't really fit in Besides this item is very special, white item for 50k, binds to account, "Staff of herding" come on, it's the cow level yo.

i dont understand these overreactions.

The guy doesnt even know how to get all the materials and he doesnt know how to use the staff, if it even is the staff that opens the secret level.

I found Leorics Shinbone in the Torture chamber area. I think it just dropped off a random enemy, I killed a huge wave of dudes and it was just there in the loot. Maybe all those items have a random chance to drop anywhere.

shinebone comes from fireplace. Probably clicked it by accident while fighting the enemies in the room.

The item is "of herding" and an ingredient and one of the mats of it belongs to "Wirt".

If you didn't believe this was an easter egg related to the cow level, even before the video came out, you never played D2, or you don't know Bliz's sense of humor.

To add on, the 'rainbow potion' is just another piece of blizzards humour, and reading that i immediately knew it was going to be nice and colorful, even before before i saw the colourfull pony video

Earlier in the development cycle quite a few people were complaining that it wasn't dark enough, and that Diablo was too colourful etc. I believe there is even a mod made by someone that tones down the colours and brings out more of the darker colours.

So that's where the joke comes from.

NO NO NO. All the guy found was a recipe for a staff. There's nothing special or hard about that. It's obvious that the staff is linked to something special, but it is not a cow level, (one can't even assume it's a level at all without knowing the fact that it actually is for one) and it's also not necessarily the only thing you need to do to get to the level

WAY TOO MUCH assumption and way too much over-blowing of what was going on. The guy just found a recipe that says everything he needed to get the staff — he didn't need to work at all to find out what ingredients he needed.

No, I didn't.

To address that and to elaborate more on what I said: all a person needs to do is find that recipe/plan, then find people who have the other items, then know where to go after crafting the item. It's not hard to do this very quickly when you have millions of people playing. It's obviously not intended to be anything particularly secretive. One can't easily have secrets in this day and age of the internet.
The title of the video is inaccurate too if you're referring to where I was saying it wasn't a cow level. It isn't a cow level.

Ok found the Gibbering Gemstone in the Caverns of Frost lvl 2 during the machines of war quest in act 3 nightmare. It was off a unique mob that was...well...gibbering. He dropped no other loot so I assume he specifically drops this piece of loot.

Found the mushroom in act 1 on one of the cathedral floors in a patch of mushrooms.

Besides these two I haven't found any other reagents (besides Writs Bell)

Oh and all the reagents are account bound, meaning they cannot be traded or sold between players.

A. You can buy the recipe from the potion guy in act 4.
B. They bind to account on pickup.

For those who are worried it's hard to get, you shouldn't. I'm level 33 and I gathered all 6 objects (As well as the 100 000 grand for wirts bell) in one afternoon. I'm currently just short of the crafting price (you need 50 000 and I'm currently on 30 000). If you just know where to look for each thing it's not too troublesome. Though if you are going at it blind it could take you a good while.

Btw 100000 grand is 100 million =D
To generate the staff of herding, there's only nightmarish, hellish and infernal plans. Does that mean that the secret (name favorite animal here) level is only available in these 3 difficulties and not normal? I must add that the items can be found on normal though.

Yeah sorry, I meant bucks.

I gathered all the items on normal as well as entered in act 1 normal. The monsters themselfs seem to be about one difficulty above what you currently are. If you enter it in normal the level will be about as difficulty as early nightmarish. I assume the same will be the case for higher difficulty so it will scale above the difficulty you are playing.

The recipe you buy in act 4 is to upgrade the staff to the next difficulty. "Nightmarish staff of herding" requires a staff of herding and 200k for example so you will still need to farm the recipe off Izual as well as all the other ingredients. It is a good way to get the blacksmith achievement for teaching your blacksmith a recipe since it only costs one gold though :0

150k becomes chump change rather quickly once you start getting decent items to sell on auction house.

150k is pretty much nothing if you're going to continue playing the game. I just spent 100k on a new weapon 'cause I got so frustrated playing barbie and getting roflstomped by trash mobs in act 3 hell.
I imagine you'll farm up 150k in inferno pretty quickly.

150k is pretty much nothing if you're going to continue playing the game. I just spent 100k on a new weapon 'cause I got so frustrated playing barbie and getting roflstomped by trash mobs in act 3 hell.
I imagine you'll farm up 150k in inferno pretty quickly.

yeah but spending 150k at every level of the staff is kinda pricy. that's what i meant.

it's... more at each level.

150~k for normal
200k to upgrade to inferno
1mil to hell

I can't for the life of me get the gemstone to drop =\ after 40+ clears of that cave. Have everything else

Same here (though I've only done about 6 times). I'm doing it on nightmare difficulty. You?

Update: went back to normal difficulty and got it in 2 runs. Might have been just luck but Idk. Also, the boss that drops it was hidden a bit off of the main path.

If you think it's shitty, then no it's not worth it. But it's not shitty it's awesome, so of course it's worth it.

There is a secret unicorn level aswell, i went there yesterday. The boss before azmodan on Hell difficulty can drop it. Very funny chests are like smiling flowers and such, give it a try! Havent encountered any loot so far on Inferno which gives something like that.

That is a link to the video that shows what the level actually looks like. It is quite amusing and was a nice way to spend an hour or so getting the materials needed to gain access to the level. Apparently the inferno version of the level has quite good gear.

This run was on the normal version of Whimseyshire, which is equivalent to Nightmare monster difficulty roughly.

In Diablo 2, there was a very long stretch of time (before certain patches), where it was extremely valuable to farm or level in the secret cow level in hell mode. Rushing was also common so that a high lvl player beat the game for a low level player so that the low level player can enter the cow level. It was usually possible to go from lvl 5 to lvl 20 in 1 cow run (~10 minutes).

I got my first legendary, Stone Gauntlets, from Hell Whimsyshire. A single run also guarantees a nearly full inventory of 51-60(hell quality 60s, not act 1 inferno) blues. Act 1 inferno is better for farming but killing ponies is always fun and you can make easy money off the drops.

It is reusable. I have hell version and done it various times.

You might have dropped the staff? It's easy to drop if you're switching gear in and out / dropping white items you accidently pick up ><

so is there a step by step instruction to unlock this thing for a guy like myself who never had d2 experience or this type of game...?
the most confusing this in this game is black smithing and jewel crafting...seems like it cost so much to level up blacksmith thing..

Seriously... Blizzard fucking trolling us so hard by making this the secret level of Diablo 3. It was going to be hard to match the level of awesomeness that was The Cow Level from Diablo 2, but creating "Whimsyshire" with monsters like "Twinkleroot", "Cuddle Bear", and "Purple Rainbow Unicorn" (I shit you not) is like receiving a roundhouse kick to the testicles.

Is anyone else annoyed that it's always being called "the pony level" despite having unicorns and no ponies anywhere?

No. Same thing in my book.

I will enjoy the slaughter of innocent unicorn/ponies regardless lol

Most people still call it the cow level. Although they shouldn't, this is an insult to the greatness the cow level was. Sure they were cows, but the level was very much in D2 style. This.. thing.. they put in now on the other hand, *shudders*.

I think the pony level is pretty cool. I have no idea how useful it is though, I got the staff but I don't want to waste the money to upgrade it unless people start testing it and letting us know if it's even useful.
