If you can't understand her globalize yourself a bit. The only excuse you have for not understanding her is if English is not your native language. If this is the case you might want to lobby for casters in your native language instead of bashing the English one.
Why should we have to work to understand commentary? It's like having the English commentator to be French - we should just all learn French too. GomTV is offering a service - the service should be as simple and comfortable for the viewer as possible.
Also, it doesn't address the fact of the blatant lack of knowledge she has for SC2.

She is pretty attractive and likable. Her accent is not as bad as it used to be. We will grow accustomed to it over the coarse of the season. Don't believe me? Watch her latest youtube video of her opening a new steel series headset

There's a reason why she got the gig, and even so it's not yours mine or any other poster here decision anyway. Don't like her, don't listen.

Don't like her, don't listen. It is our decision to not watch it or pay for it though and many have said that they won't watch it or pay for it because of Kelly. This was a poor decision by GOM that will cost them business.
They've been doing many other things well, such as the foreigner house and foreigner seeds, but this one poor decision will probably hurt them more than all the other good decisions have helped. If I watch any Code A matches then it will only be the foreigner matches and I'll probably mute it to avoid her annoying difficult to understand speech and poor commentary.
I would rather listen to good casters in a language I don't understand (the Korean stream) than listen to a bad caster than I can somewhat understand but puts major strain on my brain trying to understand.
I hope that this was only meant to be a temporary job while decent casters get their paperwork approved.

No offense but I've seen prettier. So let's hope she delivers a rather convincing performance or there be a shitstorm abrewing of epic proportions soon.

Has anyone hear what happened to torch?

This is fact, some/many have complained. People can only vote with their wallets.

That's purely speculation, and there's no data to back it up yet.
I personally am not impressed, but then again I haven't seen a combined (tasteosis/2)+whoever cast.
If Code A is always free with Code S, I just don't see myself *not* paying for Code S just to "force myself" not to watch Code A with bad casting. However, when they start putting advertisements into the stream, maybe the sponsors will require certain audience numbers, at which point our view counts may matter as much as whether we bought the CodeS+CodeA premium package or not.

Yeah, I'm sure you know people who's English is much worse, but do any of them work as a news anchor or a sports commentator? Would you honestly recommend them to be one?

That seems to the predominant argument for the people defending her.

I'd love to hear GOM take this stance. Something tells me they'd rather people not stop watching because they don't like her...but who knows, maybe I'm crazy.

Agreed. I'll be muting Code A.

I watched that and honestly could not understand. She got a headset from someone and if we want to send her stuff we can also. That's all I got.

Dear lord, this is just getting stupid. Why would they possibly hire her?
Bad english, terrible asian accent, no knowledge whatsoever about starcraft, 0 casting experience.
|
It's really not all that bad...She just needs to learn more pro level SC2 things and I think she'll be decent. A good Tasteless replacement for the more formal talking points and assistance...definitely not an Artosis replacement. I say replacement because obviously they aren't going to be tag teaming her forever so she'll take the place of one of them in Code A (if she isn't fired). They'll need a pro to be with her, though.
Besides all the other issues that may have gotten in the way (visa, scheduling, etc) I think they just really wanted a female face to put up on the screen and this was the best one they could find.
Lastly, am I the only one who noticed a tone in that announcement that seemed almost apologetic? Like they knew we were going to complain about this and were getting ready for it? Like how they mention they're still looking for the best caster, they had to find someone who met all these criteria that had nothing to do with their casting ability, etc, etc. Seemed strange.
|
yea I don't agree with her being in casting crew. english commentators are expected to speak it fluently while sounding pleasurable to the ears, and she fails hard at both. I guess the only area that she shines in is her interest/skill in sc2 as she seems to play the game @tournament settings, but even then people will be bothered to hear that accent for more than 15 mins.
edit: i think husky should get a sex change and commentate for code A under a new identity since no one would really miss shim in the first place. then she would actually be recognized as a good female caster... win win imo.

I cannot wait for a more extensive search to be completed, hopefully resulting in two casters for GSL Code A that are able to be understood.
