hydras usually beat me in zvz with spores into quick +1 hydras

only happens every 1/10-15 zvz though, so nothing too often

requires pretty good timing/pressure with lings

Early game hydralurk is really vulnerable and the opponent will probably expo.

hydras need 300/300 worth of upgrades plus the 200/200 for lurkrs and you need 2 evos getting atack and carapace to fight mutas.

Not to mention the hydras and lurkers you have to get and you NEED more tech still like swarm or ensnare.

Its an inferior build.

In my opinion, the main reason why Hydra is an inferior build to Muta is because whenever the Muta player feels like it, he can just go in and easily start picking off your drones, causing severe damage to your econ, and then just fly out with minimal damage, while it's extremely hard for you to do the same thing to him. If you see this and send all your hydras to defend against it, he can just fly around to your expansion and start doing the same thing there. If you somehow manage to get enough hydra/spores to prevent him from doing this, odds are that then he can easily just over expand and then out-macro you.

Someone mentioned something about a 3 hatch pressure ling build and then possibly transitioning into hydras; I think this might potentially be a good all-in strategy, if you can put enough pressure on him to delay him and then switch into a ling/hydra mix to finish him off. I wouldn't know though because I haven't experimented with hydra builds enough.

I've seen two guys on bnet play a game where one player (who has 60 more apm, and beats him with every race) loses to another player (mediocre zerg) Simply because he used hydras. The mutas will always lose to your hydra force alone, because you will always have more, but lingsyour hydras have to pick their poison in temrs of who to aim for, and who to get torn to shreds by.
