Gender inequality ftw. Yea it was a shitty action and im sure he deeply regrets it. I think so many fucked up shit happens when ppl are drunk, I don't think we need to call the guy a piece of shit cause he made one mistake. We'd probably all be pieces of shit going by such reasoning. Mistakes happen, let's hope he will/has learn(ed) from it.

Seas seems extremely grabby when drunk and I am surprised he lasted this long since he does tons of drunk stream with girls hmm, yeah the unblurred gif doesn't make it look as bad. after seeing this I can't really make up my mind. I don't condone hitting women but without being there, hearing what was said, experiencing the full context, I can't decide how playful the hitting was. I would be able to make a better decision if we were able to hear from the girl getting hit. Did she feel as though it was aggressive or playful? How hard were the punches? also, does anyone know what was said by the girl to prompt the hitting? I assume he didn't just decide to punch her for no reason out of the blue.
while im new to whole BW scene, Sea has this reputation of being extremely grabby and touchy when drunk.
His youtube channel is littered with these kind of videos. Drunk girl streamer collab are common. Only a matter of time before he got suspended really.

dude is mega hammered, can barely keep his eyes open
someone shoulda taken him home hours before this

Wait, why Killer exactly?

in the unblurred gif/video :
The face he is making while punching... lol The first punch looks harder than the second one, which looks pretty weak?
Doesn't seem like he intended to be very violent, but as everyone said already it is still inexusable behavior.
btw did you notice that the guy trying to hold his arm after the two punches is laughing at the same time. I don't think it was very violent punches because the other guy woundl't be laughing he would be like "hey man WTF are you doing?"

What a dumbass.
As a side note, group A just got a little less interesting.

Ok, without the blurs this looks totally different. He was obnoxious for hitting on her repeatedly, obviously, but he didnt assault her like I had previously thought.

judging by reaction on reddit and here, I would have thought sea assaulted her if I didn't see ygosu exploding last night over Sea's stream and saw the unblurred version. If I saw the blurred gif first, I would have thought sea assaulted her (hell I had to check unblurred gif again to make sure I saw it right)
Sea's behavior is 100% unacceptable, but I can't say I agree with claims about this being domestic violence. It was Sea's usual degenerate grabby drunk stream with playful punch that is being blown out of proportion everywhere, including korea since this is on news now.
on other note, Sea shouldn't even play victim when his suspensions over but I know he would.

Well, I don't think you should dismiss it as a joke if the woman is clearly not accepting it as a joke. Sea really should have had the foresight to not do dumb shit on a live stream. The punishment pretty much fits the bill, he's not permanently banned from tournaments or streaming. Basically he gets hit in the pocket book by some private organizations who don't want to be associated with his behavior.
I'm a big fan of sea, hopefully he learns from his mistake and just keeps his hands to himself in the future so we can see some more great games.

This is BS. Even if he did that what it has to do with BW? He qualified fairly and shaving off from tourney because of that is unfair.

This is just so .... wierd
It's like a metaphor for 'Adult Life'
I'll generalize:
When we were younger, we'd see an idealized version of progamers - living in camaraderie in team houses, training to be the best and swapping strategies, some ceremonies after games, rare appearances on shows (like B.Net Attack). Who didn't glorify the National Geographic WCG2005 documentary?
Then you had the slew of reality shows - Hyongjoon and Kang Min, then Yellow and Boxer's appearances on The Genius. A bit deeper exposure to gamers-as-people, their living quarters, their lives outside the game.
But now, it's gotten oversaturated. To make ends meet, the guys who have stuck to it have to make their own reality shows. The more you stream, the more you're paid, it becomes reflexive. You forget you're on (Afreeca)TV.
If Sea and the others had been on the set of a Reality Show, I highly doubt that 1. he would have been THAT drunk 2. he would have been so persistent, let alone hit her. There would have been handlers nearby to step in and make it easy for her to leave the situation without shame.
The glamour we used to admire of being full-time gamers, or at least celebrities, is replaced with over-drinking and relationship problems. Sure he misbehaved, but what's really unhealthy here?
That he feels forced to constantly over-share his life? He had a financial incentive to be 'more dramatic' = more views. Pity he couldn't control himself. That as viewers, we lap this up and actually enjoy watching the implosion of one of our 'entertainers'? This guy has taken such a shaky career-path, to do what he loved and equally to do what WE LOVE for us (entertaining us with skill play). And then we turn and devour him when he lashes out, our enjoyment at the expense of his burnout.

One could make that argument i guess. In this case it's linked through the streaming platform afreeca though which is the tournament oragnizer so i can see why they do it.

Even IF you're of the opinion that this is commonplace behavior in bars around the world. There's young people watching his stream that idolise him. If he wasn't streaming himself being a twat he likely wouldn't have been made an example of, but as is Afreeca can't let this go unpunished.

And who would idolize Sea lol, Sea is more of a Terror clone. I can see how someone can idolize Flash or Jaedong, but Sea's always been silly.

Its drama from nearly nothing but still unacceptable when you are streaming.
On top of that, Sea is known for this kind of stream and had to have something. He was getting out of control
Whats annoying though, is that the sensationalization and also people suddenly becoming expert at the incident after seeing the blurred gif, which is understandable since I had to check the uncensored gif again because of how misdirecting blurred gif was despite already having seen the original

How sad. I wouldn't have expected Sea to do something like that.
Here are some statistics from the OECD: There are more unemployed women than men in South Korea (graph). Women are also paid less than men, especially compared to other counties (graph). These match up with the statistics in the Bloomberg article (edit: I just noticed Bloomberg cites the OECD in their article).
That said, statistically, women have higher life satisfaction than men (graph). And, perhaps surprisingly, report higher job satisfaction (graph). I think it's clear there are a variety of factors at play here.
Anyway, sorry for going off topic. Just thought I'd add some more statistical research to the links PVJ posted. Some of which, in my opinion, misrepresent women related issues as solely caused by misogyny and sexism.

One of the groups there is a couple who often playfully hit each other on stream (during mukbang ot w/e) so maybe Sea was trying to replicate some of that? From what I saw of the stream they were doing some of that but very toned down. The punch from Sea probably wasn't intended to be violent but he was drunk and it came out really bad.

It doesn't look that bad really, maybe a temporary stream ban would be fair but getting kicked from ASL seems rather extreme.
