You have moore time to do better things then waste all your teenage years infront of a computer. I'm not a teenager anymore.
Your grades go upwards. I dont go to school.
Your social life gets better, if you havent wasted those things already by playing computer. I have too many friends already.
You learn moore. About what?
You get other influences then just sitting in front of computer playing games all day. I guess so.
When you read THIS do this on impulse as i did: Take the CD out of the computer, break it, and then do something that you actually can use later on at life, like school, drawing, reading etc. I doubt any other hobby is more meaningful than another. It's all about what makes you happy.
Downsides of quitting bw: Well its fun, but try playing a few years, then stop, and then think about if gaming has given you anything ? It gave me ALOT of friends. 50% of my friends or more has been a byproduct of playing starcraft. The other half is due to sports.
And think about this, what choise would you have done? 5 years infront of computer, or five years doing something other ? To quote towlie: "Dont preach to me fatso."
Sorry just couldnt help bashing you... I'm in a grumpy mode today. Do whatever does you happy.
EDIT: Going to bold some stuff.

Sometimes I would play Poker or BW up to 4 am. However, I could be in the middle of a BW game or online Poker session then if a friend calls me to go out, I'll leave right away. It could be a ladder game or pocket AK and I'll still leave.
Have some self control instead of letting the game control you. They're great games, but they're at the bottom of my priorities. After all, it's just a game.

well I lost my SC cd, so as soon as bw is gone thats the end. Amazing I have made it this long without my mom unexpectedly reformating or something.

A hell lot of more freetime, but you dont really do anything special, your like reading a book, talking on MSN or watching a movie instead. As for grades.. No changes, school have never been a problem even when I played BW all day.
Some positive things tho, I really started to "get" my driving license, because before I was to busy with playing BW so that I would do that insead of being out on the roads driving. I started to work out when I quit BW, mostly to do something else, and I am up to 5 times/week now with a quite tough schedual.
Downsides? It really is fun to win games and to improve, also losing contact with some old BW friends is quite harsh.
My conclusion: It doesen't matter if you play BW or not, aslong as you dont stay in playing BW instead of going out with friends or messing up school.
And for those who wish to quit, find something else to take up your time, start working out a few days a week, and when you feel the urge for playing BW, watch a movie, play some other game or just go and read a book. Getting past the first week is the hardest, I watched OC season 1,2 and 3 from the minute I got home to when I got to bed, which kept me away from BW for a few days, after that it wasn't that hard, even tho I admit, I was cheating some and I did play some games every now and then, and I kinda always had the thing "one day I will come back" but now 4 months later, I am thinking of it, and hell I even tried to "come back" but I dont think I will. I am afraid to get as addicted as I was before, because it didn't harm me directly, but he kinda tied me up and I dont want it to happen again. And I kinda reached my goals, SWE-A and go to some other country playing a tournament/meet forgein ppl! Remember folks, goals are important what you wanna achive with what you are doing and what you are willing to sacrifice to get there!
Anyway, it's more than I first was about to write, but I kinda got carried away to share my feelings about the game I spend so much time with. I hope it was to use for someone out there to make a decision!
Zpux is right about that....u start workin out a little bit, it kinda clears your mind of sc....i had it pretty bad about 3 months ago...i wa slike 24/7 sc writing & playing...i started the same thing and cut back quite a bit...feelin better too

In retrospect BW addiction was a serious problem for me. I dunno how or why I broke it either I just stopped more or less cold turkey without really intending to. Turns out it was one of the best decisions I've made in 2006 (this was around May).
Really it's embarassing to me how much I was obsessed: -I can hardly meet a Korean and not instantly think of SC and just somehow assume they must play. -I would dream of SC in more ways than one (sometimes the dream would actually be a game of SC, sometimes it would be of me getting famous playing SC or something)... And I would fantasize about becoming a new sensation or getting to play Boxer or Yellow or something in a league. -Most other hobbies were shut down simply because spending these hours doing these things was a waste of my free time when I could be playing PGT or something. -All of my friends knew I was addicted (some still bring it up just naturally assuming I play it all the time), and they would come over and usually have to endure me finishing a game or something. -In high school my parents knew they'd have to call me up for dinner ~10 minutes early, because I'd have to finish my game. -Worst of all, my GPA my freshman year (college) went from 3.9 first semester to like 2.5 or something (well 3.2 I guess combined). I'm fortunate to have been accepted to the place I was looking to transfer to before they got a hold of my 2nd semester grades. Plus now I get a fresh start with my GPA, which I needed.
I don't think I was one of the worst addicts either, I think that it's just unhealthy. That's not to say that no one is healthy with it, however; I do think that there are people who can play it often and not in a harmful manner. But ultimately I think it does cause more negative addiction than it does other responses in "serious" gamers.

quiting sc is not the answer..
you stop whining about not having enough time to do all those things you say you do when not playing sc is the problem.
If sc is taking up much time, then quit. I have school, gf, social life, and everything you can have, and I still have time to spend on sc, because I'm organized I have this time in the day where I just lay down on the PC and watch reps and surf the web. In the rest of the day, I rest, I run, I do excercise, I study I do all the homework I need to get done. That's it.

actually i found a decent way i think get into a good single player game, u get hooked on that and stop thinkin about sc (of course it always helps to break ur cd and clear ur comp)
i suggest amazing super good single player games fallout and fallout2
Edit: yeah youll get hooked on that for a bit but since its single player u wont get insanely hooked just a tad which eventually fade away cause of the lack of the internet

You know.... my grades would get better if I quit SC... but that's really about it. I mean, SC time is what replaces my study time. And if I took away SC for Study time... i'd just end up playing Bass anyways.
Here are things that DID happen playing BW to me though.. I definately wanna visit sweden but more so the Netherlands. I mean.. Hiddink was cool but then I hear what Drone and co had to say about the place and it sounds fun.. or was that elsewhere? I have gained in interest in Europe more so. I brushed up on some spanish by meeting some spanish speakers. I now know if I ever go to Korea, I know a place where I can gamble without having the nonsense Koreans can't gamble in Korea law. A lot of good funny internet laughs... And.... re-introduced to poker.
So I love this game and what it's brought me.

"if bw is having that kind of an impact on your life, you're the problem
i've been playing this game for like five years now, just gaming or fucking around when i have nothing better to do"
Its clearly a bad sign, when you feel that playing bw for hours, day after day, month after month is okay, because u feel like you do not have anything better do to. Well whats better than playing BW? Try to get some new impulses and some other interests. You got to try renember that these early years of your life, in most cases are the most important. What you do now has a huge impact to the rest of your lives.
So I dont want to be funny or anything, but there are far to many people looking back at their lives, regretting, because they havent done or learned the things they wished when they were young.
I also dont talk about everybody. I just talk about people that are on the net constantly wether they are here or in battlenet countless of hours every day. A movie wich i saw, sliding doors can give maybe a little explanation of what i mean. Its about the choises.
Anyways im of to the deskboard, copying a drawing from Rubens, tudelu!
