Please keep the QQ to a minimum if you do not like this update. We are happy to hear your reasoning for not liking a ranked system, but no "OMG VOLVO WHY" posts.

why is the pleb against AP in ranked? are they worried that they can't yolo random and get flamed by their teammates anymore or what is the reason?

ap is the most tryhard mode that's for sure, you don't have to queue for it. i've had 20 games in ranked so far and not once were the picks delayed until minions spawned. usually people decide their heroes when the game is 30s from starting. i dont see a problem here.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

went 4-6 and was at 4011. Must have started my mmr based on where I was in pub games. Surprised to see it so high though... given the quality of my teammates I was playing with for my last 2 matches I thought I was in high skill hell.

It is based off your non ranked mmr. You play one game and some people are 4.5k and some people are 2.5k, there's no way it pulls that out of one game.

I was 4.3k after placement matches and I've since lost 5 games straight and I'm not at 4.2k. I do think those numbers in the blog were a bit 'forgiving', as in 4k is not as high a benchmark as it sounded in the blog.

The blog mentioned the rating for non-ranked I believe. It definitely said they didn't know how the rating would look in ranked.

I would imagine most of the higher ranked players (>3000) which equates to about the top 20% of the normal matchmaking pool would be playing ranked while most of the lower ranked players (<3000) would care far less and probably not be playing ranked. Thus the numbers would be skewed heavily, being 4000 mmr would make you top 1% of the entire dota matchmaking pool but maybe only top 15% in the ranked pool.

This would make sense.

I think I could be a good benchmark here. I have always been pending between High and Very high skill level (old system) and my rating is 3690 after 15 games.

Might not be that high for ranked mm, but for entire pool its probably among the top.

Both. You mouse over it and it tells you how many games remaining for each.

Is 4k really the top 1%?

Its the thing that gets lost. It happened all the time in the LoL ladder as well. People forget that the sheer number of players means that being "good" (i.e. knowing what you are doing, how to play, communicate, etc) will put you in the top % of all players. It may not feel that way in games, but thats how matchmaking works: its designed to make even games.

Always remember: there are a TON of Dota players in the world. Chances are if you come to TL, you are already in the top % of players simply because you have the desire to learn more. Which counts for a LOT.

4k is just a number. If Valve wants 1% ? 4k then they alter some stuff and there u go, 1% in 4k zone. I think they maybe aim for it, but now we are seeing alot of players ending up in that zone.

If you type in the following information in the console, you can check your rank without having the 10 games done:
developer 1
dota_game_account_debug

You also get some other interesting facts like the number of successful reports.

Once you've done your 10 games, does the player with the highest rating on your team get to be captain or is it whoever clicks the fastest still? 'cause the latter is kinda silly.
