Toronto's Current Unemployment rate is 10.1%. Edmonton's Current Unemployment Rate is 3.1%... Saskatchewan's rate is at 2.7%.
The Canadian Dollar is tanking sure, but the Western Canadian Oil Industry is just soaring higher and higher. We are far from in crisis mode; Nisku houses about 600 businesses, all of them could probably use 2-3 laborers, a Welder or two, as well as an engineer or two.
Not having a job in Alberta/Saskatchewan means you either aren't willing to work hard or you not looking. In Toronto you can't find a job at the Local McDonalds. Very different economic climates right now.
Plus, The Oilers, Flames, and Canucks are propped up by corporate empires based in the US. This is not the 90's anymore.
if you don't have a job in toronto its because you do not want a job. if u want to take a minimum wage job you can get 1 in a day. the Mcdonald's near me had a giant "Career Day" where manager guys were begging total losers to work there.
its 10% because every roofer, heating & A/C person, and pipe fitter is on "EI" or "UI" or whatever you want to call it. and, these guys still work under the table 10 to 30 hours a week.
that said, if i didn't have an established biz here i'd be in Saskatchewan or Alberta... there is more opportunity there right now.

What? There was nothing okay about that play from Crosby. It was a short-handed goal with Sharks forwards changing after a very long shift. I'm surprised Marleau was still able to get speed given how long he had been out there. It was a horribly lazy play by Crosby. He just watched Marleau school Malkin while skating in a straight line (more like coasting in a straight line).
and there was a player on him.
with Ovechkin, there are 3 opponents at or below his team's goal line and no one covering a player standing by a gaping wide open net... if the puck skips.. or the player partially fans on the shot.. they'll get an easy 2nd crack at the net.
i said Crosby's position was "ok" not spectacular. Ovechkin's move on the other hand was horrible.
watch the replay. sid had another teammate marking the trailer, who was no where near the play. he was coasting for the quick turn around to take advantage of there being a forward in deep and got burned.
in ovechkin's defense, that's just a massive fuck up by everyone on the ice, and as a winger his responsibility is really more point/high slot. he fucked up the least out of everyone there tbh. they failed to clear the zone, got out of position, and 38 just fucked up massively in every way really
Those controller disconnected gifs are funny, but only someone who has never actually played organized hockey would think that it reflects poorly on the player.
no one is using those gifs to argue either being bad players, esp crosby since he's a real good two way player usually. that just happened to be a real stupid play on a really bad night for him
Good thing the guy we traded had a shutout tonight.
The Canucks problem wasnt the goal tending, it was being a one dimensional team and this year the Sedins and Burrows have had a colossal collapse in scoring -- whether its Torts or Age or Torts -- and there went all of the offense. That and the fact that nothing was done to fill in prospects who could move up to the second line is what did them in.

To be fair he shut out Buffalo. Thats not exactly the hardest task in the world.
Except he did it on Florida, who hadn't had a regular season shutout in TWO YEARS.
Florida hasn't had very good goalies in the last 2 season so thats not much of a shock. Combine that with playing in the super offensive oriented east and not being that good of a team at all and its easy to see why it took 2 years to get a shutout.
Shots in that game were 44 to 25 for Florida. Buffalo is just awful so shutting them out should be fairly routine.
10 year ago today Todd Bertuzzi made the front page of every newspaper in North America and probably most of them in Europe too when he punched Steve Moore in the back of the head and went down ontop of him, driving Steve Moores head into the ice. The impact broke Moores neck. Moore hasn't played a game since, Bertuzzi was suspended for the remained for the season and once the NHLPA was locked out and the IIHF learned he was going to play overseas they honored the suspension of the NHL and since the NHL never set a time for his return he was basically prevented from playing in any hockey league on earth. The province of BC also did a criminal investigation into the attack and charged Bertuzzi with assault causing bodily harm. He plead guilty after arranging a plea deal that granted him a discharge, 80 hours of community service, a ban from playing in any hockey game Steve Moore is a part of and 1 year probation
TSN is doing a special on this and the lawsuits and trials that have followed. Steve Moore is going to win a multi million dollar award from the courts. The main reason this has taken 10 years is Bertuzzi's lawyers have done a stand up job stalling. video for part 1 video for part 2 Not sure how many parts there are going to be. Good videos though.
Don Cherry talkin' midget hockey... Junior Canadiens v. Marlies Don layin' the smack down on the Canucks and Luongo. "the day the music died" great segment by Don.

already posted in the Vancouver thread..
this will give u some background of the mentality of the canucks team back then and how important the "Bertuzzi/Nasland" combo was...
So finally Evgeny Kuznetsov (btw he's from my home town known for the meteorite explosion last year and we share the same lastname haha!) joined Capitals. The guy clearly made a mistake last year prolonging his stay with KHL, but rumors say it wasn't his decision so he could either escape like Malkin did and create a life-time ban for himself or stay and play. Its a pity to see a guy relieved that Traktor did not get into playoffs which released him to go join the Caps. But i'm happy to have yet another Russian playing along with Ovi, maybe these two will heat it off.
