alright, so that's exaggerating somewhat - inc and husky have improved a lot since NASL S1 and the SC2 beta days, respectively. But I can't be the only one who finds the act of holding PL up on some pedestal in order to take down two newcomers somewhat distasteful and hypocritical. All the polite language in the world doesn't mask that. Am I the only one absolutely gobsmacked that a TL employee has the audacity to spout such bullshit? Am I the only one gobsmacked that TB is taking a forum post, totally over-reacting about it and then being a dick about it? Yes, yes I am. I doubt anyone who says "TB AND HUSKY HAVE BEEN SHITTING UP TOURNAMENTS FOR YEARS" has any worthwhile opinion to share.
As arrogant as ever.

Name a competent 2012 caster and there's probably a 2010 thread with people (other casters and players included) complaining about how bad they are.

Sorry, I seem to have hurt your feelings, but it's true. You didn't say anything of interest or of note for years, just what was on my screen. It was tedious. If Boxer was the Emperor of Starcraft/eSports. You were the Emperor of the fucking Banal. You were hired not for your skill as a caster but that you brought a large non sc2 audience from your youtube channel and proceeded to shit it up for all the people out there that actually played the game.

You don't matter enough to hurt anyone's feelings. One troll is just the same as any other, little more than regular background noise.

"Out of the blue" haha. Ah yes, not addressing the issue. The classic escape mechanism. This is clearly over as you won't talk about the actual issues, just faux outrage as per usual. GL HF in the future.

The issue? "YOUR CASTING IS SHIT AND I HATE YOU" is not an issue, it's a petulant flame. Could you y'know, leave the room while the grown-ups are talking? I've got some megablox you could play with.

All the polite language in the world doesn't mask that. Am I the only one absolutely gobsmacked that a TL employee has the audacity to spout such bullshit? This thread is fucking toxic and a TL employee is leading the way, holy shit. Want to know what's literally killing eSports? This. The inability to discuss things like adults without resorting to tit-for-tat ad hominem wankery. You know who is in a really good position to criticize casters? Other casters. Most of the people in this thread know next to nothing about how to cast an event, only what they personally want from their casters which is going to vary from person to person. Zero experience in events or the business behind eSports leads to fairly poor quality feedback. You wanna know the reason why some casters are talking about this issue? Because it's in our best interests not to see Proleague fall flat on it's arse. The more Kespa realizes that the foreign audience is actually important, the better off the scene will be. What happened when they switched out casters? A 50-75% drop in audience that hasn't recovered yet. Like it or not prominent casters have an audience of their own that they can bring to the table. Remember when tournaments would get half the views if they didn't have Tastosis or Day[9] casting? That was a while ago but the effect is still there to a lesser degree, particularly when you're watching a bunch of unfamiliar Koreans in a strange format. If you lose your audience because you don't have a casting duo that can keep them, you're in trouble. Kespa as a result views the foreign audience as unimportant, stops cooperating with foreign organizations and we get back into a BW-esque situation of foreigners becoming a niche that's not catered to. It benefits nobody. Yeah, I can totally understand the problem with getting an experienced casting duo. The gig is actually terrible. The amount of money offered was not enough to pay any regular event caster and the setup was less than ideal. Casting at 4am was not that fun. However the ability to speak fluent English and cast well with your partner is important to pretty much every listener ever, regardless of their preferences and Proleague is not the place to practice that.
You are not the only one taken aside by the comment, I was feeling the same. However, I am not certain who is included in the "terrible casters guild" so I can't make any comments.
I believe Husky made a comment regarding casters "working their way up" from very small LANs to the big scene. IMO, this is the one of the best ways to bring new casters into the scene. I haven't followed either of the two PL casters, perhaps they already have casted some LANs in SC2 or BW but I think more experience is needed. Given that this is proleague we are discussing, I believe the standard should be very high and KESPA needs to make accommodations for casters who can meet the standard of proleague from the start.

People only care what people with authority says. That's how the world works. Do you except to just walk in here and make controversial statements without getting people riled up?

And Husky is absolutely right. Learning the basics of casting and how to work well together as a duo should not be being done on such a big stage, especially when there is more at stake than just the casters livelihoods.

Thanks dude. I guess it's easier to see the forest for the trees when you're not raging out at someone thinking you were bad at something you were bad at (note how I'm using the past participle there TB?). I'm off to watch Liverpool v Stoke. I'd say "Go Stoke!" but they're a bunch of nasty twats too. Broken legs all round please.

So, hopefully this doesn't get lost in the various personalities discussing each other around it. There's been some fairly strong names discussing the issue, and I am not even remotely going to get into that. Also, I have to confess I probably have missed 20 or so pages of the thread, so I hope this isn't already addressed. But I (and others) have brought up the name Sayle more than once, and I think it's something to keep in mind. Lots of people watched Proleague for years with sub-par English production value - or at least not professional production value. People like Sayle and ooOoOoo(dammit, why couldn't you just use one O?!)phidian talking over a re-stream. I think the quality of casting they had, and in some minds Sayle especially, from the BW days and into the BW/SC2 hybrid season is where the comfort level. Because KeSPA wouldn't give an English broadcast, and because they both (in different ways) were good casters. They knew the players, they understood the game well enough, and they were entertaining.
Now KeSPA has tacked on an English broadcast, and it has faced difficulties. The OGN thing, the Bitterbiscuit, the TLObisi, and now they have their own casters. Two people we don't know all that well, and who don't match even what we remember from the "bootleg restream" days. But KeSPA has set the bar for entry high, and production low. They aren't pushing high production value in the English cast. And they require their casters to move to Korea, enter a new culture, and work with few resources. People have brought up Sayle, and even before that, Sayle had a good mindset regarding casting that he spoke about on his stream more than once - the eSports industry isn't in a place where he felt he could risk his future on a career switch. If he was approached, and declined, that could be part of it. (Also, he hasn't ever said he was super fond of SC2.)
So, I'm thinking that could have to do with why there is no Sayle. Option - leave established job in the UK for a gamble in Korea working for someone who hasn't really made any significant investment in your new position? Or not risk your potential future with a company in an industry with better stable prospects?
Hmm. Tl; dr version is this - Sayle has said (even before Proleague was confirmed to be adding an English cast) in the past that he doesn't feel eSports is a stable enough industry for him to risk it. It came to mind because so many people (including myself) would love to hear Sayle's sweet, sweet voice casting Proleague again. But I don't think it'll happen.
