If this passes then your married taxable income will be $95,600. You'll pay 12% on the first $89,999 ($10,800) and 25% on the next $5,601 ($1,400) for a total of $12,200. Or your individual taxable income would be $57,800, paying 12% on the first $49,999 ($6,000) and 25% on the remaining $7,801 ($1,950) for a total of $7,950 whiles hers would be $37,800 and $4,536 in taxes owed for a total of $12,486. You're getting a $3,792 tax cut between you if you stay individuals (of which you as the higher earner get the majority) and another $286 if you get married.

We're basically planning to have it be a party/BBQ kinda deal in a fancy venue because the misses doesn't like the idea of standing on stage with a bunch of attention on us. Robert Mercer, a billionaire investor who is a big financial backer of many conservative causes and a patron of the former White House adviser Stephen K. Bannon, is stepping down as co-chief executive of Renaissance Technologies, the giant hedge fund. Mr. Mercer sent a letter to investors and pension advisers on Thursday morning in which he said he would step down. A copy of the letter was reviewed by The New York Times. In the letter, Mr. Mercer said he would leave his post on Jan. 1, 2018, and would also leave the hedge fund’s board. He said he would remain active on the research side of the fund, which makes trades using complex mathematical equations. The one-paragraph letter to investors did not give a reason for Mr. Mercer’s decision. His involvement in conservative politics became a lightning rod for criticism during and after the presidential election. But in a letter to the employees of the hedge fund, with the subject line “past, present, and future,” Mr. Mercer acknowledged the public scrutiny he has faced since President Trump’s election. Describing himself as a fan of small government, he sought to distance himself from polarizing figures, including Mr. Bannon. “I have great respect for Mr. Bannon, and from time to time I do discuss politics with him,” Mr. Mercer wrote. “However, I make my own decisions with respect to whom I support politically. Those decisions do not always align with Mr. Bannon’s.” Mr. Bannon now works at Breitbart News, a conservative news outlet that has been funded in part by Mr. Mercer. In the letter on Thursday, Mr. Mercer said that he was selling his stake in Breitbart to his daughters “for personal reasons.” Mr. Mercer could not immediately be reached for comment. Beyond donating to political campaigns, Mr. Mercer was a large financial backer of Cambridge Analytica, a voter-data firm that worked with the presidential campaign of Mr. Trump. The hedge fund, commonly known as RenTech, was founded by James Simons, a prominent supporter of Democratic causes and candidates, including Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Mr. Mercer, a former computer coder who worked at I.B.M. before moving to Renaissance, is known for being shy and idiosyncratic. A model-train aficionado, he hosts a well-known holiday costume party at his Long Island estate, known as Owl’s Nest, that has attracted guests including, last year, Mr. Trump and his top advisers. Renaissance manages more than $50 billion in assets. Its main funds that are open to outside investors have been doing well this year, with each of them up more than 10 percent through October. "I linked a bunch of articles without going into specifics that you all debunked but i'm not going to commit to saying anything myself because then you disprove what I say with facts rather then fiction so I'm just going to randomly bring it up constantly like its an actual thing". Also, you still haven't explained why Trump hasn't ordered Sessions to start an investigation with all this proof that now exists. Esp when it would discredit Mueller's investigation through his connection to the Uranium One report. I wonder if its because he knows its complete and utter horseshit. 1) Nothing has been debunked. Like I said above, the facts are the facts. The Clintons received a shitton of money (directly and indirectly) from Russian/Rosatom-connected sources. The Clintons lobbied for the deal. Those things happened. Where I have acknowledged that there's a dispute is whether there is a connection between the money and lobbying. And I have already acknowledged that we do not yet know of a smoking gun. However, the discovery of all of the lies surrounding the deal circumstantially show that there may be something there. Regardless, I'm content to wait and see what else comes out. I just think that it is vastly premature to conclude that there's nothing to see here. That position is untenable. 2) As for why Trump has not ordered an investigation, I can think of a couple good reasons. First, who is to say that there isn't one ongoing already? Like I mentioned last week, there is an FBI informant out there who was previously subject to a gag order and who knows what happened. His attorney has publicly said as such. His attorney has also said that this informant has been talking with Mueller and other investigators. Furthermore, Trump lifted the gag order last week, freeing this guy to talk to more people. The lawyer had made it clear that he intends to. Second, and from Trump's point of view, he has to be careful about being too involved in any investigation. It's a bad look politically for obvious reasons, even if there's merit to the investigation. It's far better for him to let other people do this for him, which I suspect is happening.

On November 03 2017 02:07 Gorsameth wrote: So, cutting medical deductions while your forcing increased premiums so you hit people double as hard. And fucking over students because the country doesn't have a big enough student debt problem yet. Medical deductions sucked already. Basically right now everyone gets a $6,350 deduction, even if they have no deductible expenses. But you can't take deductible expenses and the $6,350 which means you only want to take the deductible expenses for things like medical costs if they exceed $6,350. Or, if you're married, they'll need to exceed $12,700. So you have to be super fucking sick for it to be worthwhile. If you end up paying $13,000 in medical bills then the additional deduction above what you'd get anyway would only be $300. But they also add in what is called an AGI floor. Basically you can only count the expenses above 10% of your income. Let's say you're a median income household in my part of the country, making around $50k for a married couple. That means that the first $5k of your medical expenses don't count at all. So instead of $13,000 in medical bills for a $300 deduction you actually need $18,000. The household with no medical expenses at all gets a $12,700 deduction. The household with $18k in medical expenses gets a $13,000 deduction. Why getting rid of it doesn't matter is because with the new standard deduction at $24,400 that would be the bar you had to clear for it to be worthwhile. So a household with no medical expenses would get a $24,400 deduction whereas a household with $30,000 in medical expenses and $50,000 income would have $25,000 in medical expenses clearing the 10% AGI floor, leaving them with a $25,000 deduction, worth $600 more than the household with no medical bills at all. Basically it was so completely worthless that nothing of value is lost.

Combined with an increase in the lowest bracket from 10% to 12% this is a "fuck you" to single parents, larger families, and anyone supporting elderly parents and the like. There are no longer any tax benefits to dependents. It is going to be nice as a single man though. All of trumps tax plans dont hurt me in the slightest and will actually give me more money. That being said holy shit is it a bad idea It isn't actually that great. As a single man you get a better standard deduction, but then you're paying Edited for clarity as Kwark points out.

The value of itemizing has been halved by the doubling of the standard deduction. Let's say you're getting a 3% mortgage on a million dollar home. That's $30,000 of deductible interest. The standard deduction is $24,400, giving you a tax deduction of $5,600, worth $1,400 at the 25% bracket. Probably hold off on buying that million dollar home for the tax benefit.
