At a certain point the only reasonable conclusion that can be reached is that anyone saying "Uranium One scandal" unironically is either deliberately arguing in bad faith or a colossal moron.

This tax plan is a dumpster fire that will likely get passed because the Republicans need to pass something.
But then again, the Senators that can kill the bill are either not running for re-election or immune to being challenged in a primary.

Just bring it up enough times and it becomes a real issue.

I think a big thing will be how many young people turn out in VA. if you get a large group of them R might not want to fuck over a block that starts voting

I've explained this infinity times but it's worth repeating that increasing the standard deduction while removing exemptions is effectively class warfare against blended and single parent households. The previous system was a tax deduction based on household size. The proposed system is to give individuals a $12,200 deduction and married couples $24,400, regardless of the number of dependents. Combined with an increase in the lowest bracket from 10% to 12% this is a "fuck you" to single parents, larger families, and anyone supporting elderly parents and the like. There are no longer any tax benefits to dependents.

It is going to be nice as a single man though. All of trumps tax plans dont hurt me in the slightest and will actually give me more money.
That being said holy shit is it a bad idea

So when would this tax shit actually happen? I'm planning to get married soon anyway so that my income is joint instead of individual, but I might make extra sure of it if I'll be losing like 2k just from this alone...

Also lets talk about the child tax credit phase out being raised.
Previously if you're filing as an individual and make more than $75,000/year then the child tax credit started to phase out. Note that $75,000/year puts you in the top 14% of individual incomes. For filing as married the phase out began at $110,000, the top 10% of household incomes.
The proposed new phase out levels are $115,000 and $230,000, effectively expanding the credit for those in 14%-6% richest bracket. This is a refundable tax credit which means it's not really a tax credit at all, it's just an annual government contribution to people with children to help offset costs. It's intended to help children avoid poverty (again, this is why it's refundable), this expansion is pretty indefensible.

The Republican tax plan really is a despicable attempt at giving businesses and those who own them pretty much everything they want at the expense of everyone else.

If you tell me what you makes and what the fiance makes I'll tell you how much better/worse off you'll be. It's likely that you'll want to adjust tax deferral strategies asaply to game this.
edit: We already did this, tax defer all the things you can. Have her recognize all the tax deferred liabilities she can. Max out that 401k contribution, Trad IRA rather than Roth for you this year, you can roll it over later.

Abolition of the medical deduction isn't really important, given the increased size of the standard deduction btw. They could have left it in and nobody would have been able to use it anyway.

If I make 70k and the girlfriend makes 50k, what do we gain or lose by getting married?

I always enjoy it when the Republicans roll out a tax plan and Kwark goes into full Game the System mode, while also calling the entire thing bullshit.

So, cutting medical deductions while your forcing increased premiums so you hit people double as hard. And fucking over students because the country doesn't have a big enough student debt problem yet.
Sounds very Republican. Do we know if this has any chance of actually passing?
Also @GH, yes you mentioned stuff like this Hillary story during the election, but you said a lot of shit without evidence. Being proven right after the fact doesn't make the claims at the time any better. Yes it looks shit and Hillary should not have done it.
@xDaunt. "I linked a bunch of articles without going into specifics that you all debunked but i'm not going to commit to saying anything myself because then you disprove what I say with facts rather then fiction so I'm just going to randomly bring it up constantly like its an actual thing". Also, you still haven't explained why Trump hasn't ordered Sessions to start an investigation with all this proof that now exists. Esp when it would discredit Mueller's investigation through his connection to the Uranium One report. I wonder if its because he knows its complete and utter horseshit.
