Well, I wanted to write a thread about this a while ago to see if anybody else though that SC was a rip off Aliens. I provided evidence as well as sources for each.
The dropship from Aliens, The Pilot and the infamous "in the pipe, five by five" quote.
The dropship from StarCraft, It's quotes and It's unit portrait.
The dropship in StarCraft is the "almost" the same dropship from the Aliens movie.

The Protoss are suppose to be the Predator Simularities - Dreadlocks, Futuristic technology, Hunters of the Aliens, The Ability to cloak, Strong in few numbers and able to battle hundreds of Alien
The Zerg are suppose to be the Alien Simularities - Both have a "Queen" which watches over the "Hive", http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/Queen Produced from Eggs, Both Share creep (hive webbing in Aliens), Move Faster on Creep, Stealthy creatures with tails and they brutally slaughter their pray
The Terran are suppose to be the Colonial Marine Simularities - Very Obvious
The Xel'Naga are suppose to be the Space Jockeys - http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/Space_Jockey Simularities - Both are the "fourth race" of the series and the Space Jockeys are bio-engineering experts that created the Alien (Much Similar to the story of the Xel'Naga creating the Zerg and Protoss).
There's a lot more but I just wanted to see if anyone thinks the same thing. Feel free to add comparisions to the thread.
Yes, they have stated several times that they were influeneced heavily by aliens, among other things. Dont remember the exact interview or w/e happened, but they noted that aliens was one of the major inspirations for sc
teamliquid won't say shit about this because they're all blizzard loving fanboys. Go talk to the guys that own the Alien franchise about this gross copyright infringement. I'm sure you can persuade them to split the profits after they sue the pants off of Blizzard. You're not the first person to have noticed this but maybe you'll be the one that has the guts to do something about this. Blizzard have gone on long enough ripping off of other games, series', you name it. It's time somewhat put a stop to their gross abuse.

SC got inspirations from Alien, Starship Troopers, Warhammer 40.000 and probably some other franchises.

lol, never made the wh40k connection, but wondered why i was attracted to the eldar race >.> But tottallly think that predator would have been much better if the dark templar had blades and not guns.
Rip off? Naw, inspired by... most definitely. But i thought this was common knowledge, they have a lot of outside influences in the game. Zerglings remind me of the bugs from starship troopers as well.

Yeah but...the similarities between marines is hardly some massive comparision, id say the differences between SC and 40k universe is far more noticeable, being the entire races...their units etc

Look at the Alien video link in 1:43 and then the StarCraft cinematic scene link. That first half is exactly the same.

What exactly are you doing on this site? This -is- a starcraft community you know.
Also. I'd lvoe to see the person who sues someone for referencing their movie/game. Maybe Schwarzenegger should sue everyone who uses the phrase "I'll be back".
I'm not hating on americans..but this needs to stop. You don't go around looking for people to sue. Thats not how a system should work.

StarCraft and WarCraft were still originally meant to be games for Games Workshop until they revoked their rights. Since Blizzard didnt want to completely start from the beginning again they changed it so they could call it their own creation. Not that thats necessarily a bad thing, we all know those games are still great in their own right :>.
Edit: in retrospect I'm not even sure about StarCraft being a WH40k project originally, but I'm pretty sure about WarCraft.

Yeah, just b/c it references Aliens a lot doesn't make it a total rip off. Whenever I play Terran I repeatedly click on my ravens just to hear "This vessel has assumed control...." . Doesn't mean Blizzard ripped off 2112, it just means that they have fans of the Rock Deities themselves on staff
Actually Blizzard stole most of the lore and inspiration for the races from warhammer 40k. If you don't belive me read some lore about the warhammer races and compare to that of the Protoss/Terran/Zerg
