Zowie Gear, a sponsor of KT Rolster announces a new addition to their product line in the Zowie Celeritas mechanical keyboard.
http://www.zowiegear.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=137
"As a competitive gaming keyboard, the ZOWIE CELERITAS was developed focusing on performance enhancement and functionality. The CELERITAS features 18K gold-plated brown mechanical switches for increased durability and pressure feeling, nylon key caps for a better comfort feeling at the touch of your fingers, and last but not least, a simplified, yet strong black design.
The primary feature of the ZOWIE CELERITAS is the newly developed ZOWIE RTR™ (Real Time Response) technology which allows the user to define the repeat-response of their presses to be 1x, 2x, 4x or 8x of the normal repeat-response for a keyboard when using the PS/2 connector. RTR™ allows gamers to gain a higher responsiveness from their keys and thereby increase the pace of movement in FPS and Racing games or possibly even increase the APM in RTS. How fast do you like it to be? We give you the possibility so you can define your most comfortable repeat-response."
"A lot of gamers are annoyed by the left windows key when playing games. Young Ho 'Flash' Lee reminded us of this, and suggested that we'd make another Ctrl instead of just disabling it. We were able to make it a function, so you can define it as either windows or ctrl. By defining this feature, RTS-gamers are able to perform multi-pressing and increase their reach with an additional 3-4 keys."
^ That sounds really cool.

This doesn't look like any mechanical keyboard I've seen before, so it looks like its a completely new design. The price tag is 119 euros which comes out to over $160 USD so the price will be quite steep. I personally have never used any Zowie products, does anyone out there have anything from Zowie? I've heard their headsets are good, but thats about all I've heard.

I don't know much about keyboards, so "mechanical" doesn't mean much to me, but I like the double control key. I have a hard time hitting it sometimes, it's really a limiting factor on my speed ingame.
|
Hmmm, just got a mechanical keyboard yesterday :\
|
I liked all about it until I saw the price.
Yeah it's mechanical, but it's a lot of money for a keyboard that has basically no features.
You could get Das Keyboard Ultimate for less, and it looks way more badass.
|
$160 is pretty steep... my 6G is getting a little worn... maybe. If that picture had the Flash eye twitch instead of some finger pointing, I would have already sent them my credit card.

Im not sure, whats the difference between a mechanical and non-mechanical keyboard? (may be a stupid questions, but I dont know ><)

It means that the switch under the key is mechanical. It's not a "digital" contact. Most keyboards use a "dome-switch system" in which you press on the top of the dome and it pushes the bottom onto a plate, completing a circuit.
Old IBM keyboards were all mechanical if you got the chance to use one. They had a distinguishable "clicking" noise.
You can read more about the different types here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_technology
Did I mention how cool das Keyboard is?
![[image loading]](http://www.daskeyboard.com/images/products/2.jpg) Tell me that's not just sick!
|
^i have that with brown switches, its awesome.
alot of people in the gsl have been using filco mechanical keyboards with all kinds of switches.
edit: whats with steelseries and zowie and the large enter key? do people actually like it?
|
To the people complaining about price, the U.S. price of products is usually cheaper than the Euro price. Not sure if this will be true for this keyboard but it is possible.
|
The control button feature is pretty cool. Using 6+ for hot-keys would be a bit easier.
|
The power of Flash compels you!

This is all you need to know.

$160... euff I'd rather just buy a Logitech G15 for half of that.
|
Ive got a mousepad from zowie which is pretty good. As far as I understand, there are some people in the zowie company that originally came from Steelseries so you can probably count on the quality of the products..
|
....160 bucks for brown switch mechanical keyboard from a company thats never paid mechanical keyboards before.
seriously?

Its the european standard to have a large return key, if im not mistaken.
|
I prefer the tall enter key.
On topic, I don't think Zowie understand that they have to price their product competitively. The majority of people who know about the benefits of mechanical keyboards will most likely also know the major players (Filco, Das Keyboard etc.) and realize that they can buy a better product for less.
I can't see who will buy this, the extra control key does not justify to me paying as much for it as a Filco.

I don't mind the tall vs short enter key as long as the backspace isn't small. The second control instead of Windows is...well to me it's pointless. The price is also way too high. I'd rather just get a Filco. As for the quality, it's probably really good. I have a Zowie Hammer headset, and it's amazing, so I know they do make quality products.

18K Gold Plated mechanical switches and USB connectors. God I wish I had money!

I have a filco with brown switches. i guess if you wanna burn an additional 40 bucks on this go for it. This is what FlaSh said in the article:
"The keyboard is a vital piece of equipment, especially for Starcraft. It needs to be very durable and responsive, as you need to reach a higher APM in this type of game than any other games", says Young Ho 'Flash' Lee and continues, "I have been using the ZOWIE CELERITAS for about 4 months and the RTR technology has allowed me to improve my APM. I suggested to make the left windows key function as ctrl and I am happy to see that ZOWIE has listened. This will help many gamers to avoid annoying mistakes."
Hmm, does anyone have any footage of him using this in Proleague or in the OSL Finals? Even Blizzcon? I don't remember him using a black keyboard at all, always his white one. My guess is that Zowie put this is in just for marketing purposes.
|
The double control key sounds pretty awesome. I really don't need another windows key on the keyboard but the extra reach allowed with the CRTL further across sounds like a great idea.
|
I bet the original product sucked like hell.. but then flash blessed it with the touch of his gosu hands and it instantly became a super pro keyboard that gives you 500apm.
|
I love that they have quotes from a pro Kart Rider player. Sort of weird to see the market flooded with mechanical keyboards after the release of Star2 but for $160 + shipping you have a lot better options imo.
|
wow that's a steep price. It seems to me that all Zowie products are pretty pricey. Is that because they are a good brand or are they overpriced?
|
Why do they find it necessary to continue making mechanical keyboards ugly? Seriously if I wanted a plain black ibm style kb I would just break out one from the huge pile I have sitting in the garage. I certainly wouldn't pay $160 for one.
Eh, I am just not sold on the whole mechanical KB bit. Frankly outside perhaps the top pros, I doubt anyone here has the reflexes to notice the difference between a digital and a mechanical. Also, you would think for what they are charging, they could of done a little better photoshop job.

Overpriced.

|
I'd be potentially interested if it wasn't for the price. Unless a bunch of reviews start coming out praising this keyboard to be a step above Flicos or even Razer's BlackWidow...
|
Japanese pro typing keyboards brands destroy anything else in existence
all these keyboards the gaming brands are throwing at you are a rip off, pricewise and construction wise next to the classic pro keyboards.
I'll try to get the japanese english site that sells those, I'm pretty sure it's the same manufacturers than pro fighting games sticks etc..
edit : and they come in dozens of construction flavors depending on what you do with it and what you need

They should make rulers and scotch tapes, also. So we can get the full Flash effect.

Secret training art of the bleeding fingers. Hmmm..

I have one of Zowie's headsets and it is really a great product. It is really durable(The headband is so flexible that you can almost flatten the entire headset out against the table without breaking it) and has great sound quality despite what a lot of audiophiles will tell you. Their other products are pretty boring, in my opinion, but this looks promising. I have an old black alps switch mechanical keyboard, but I've been looking for one with Cherry brown switches to keep down the noise since black alps are almost as buckling springs or cherry blues.
Too bad its freaking expensive!

I'm sorry what?
That's like saying that plain baked potatoes are a gourmet dish despite what food critics/chefs tell you.

That's like saying that plain baked potatoes are a gourmet dish despite what food critics/chefs tell you. They have great sound quality, so long as you're not looking for deep bass and immersiveness (music, video, etc...) Hammers really are quite good for gaming, but not much else.

Kind of a close call, as it is tangentially related to Flash, but this is basically a product advertisement.
