Boxing and athletics appeal to a -slightly- larger segment of the populace than starcraft status.
Who's the retard ? Me taking issue with your grossly uneducated misuse of a word or you going into basement-dwelling fanboy rage because I say your e-idol doesn't deserve the title you think ?
Legend commonly means "worthy of being written about and transmitted from generation to generation". Now Aside from a certain part of socially inapt fanatics I can't really see who'd categorize Boxer or Nada's accomplishments as being worthy of that heh ?

Lol. This has to be a record or something.
The most accomplished BW player of all time not a legend.
And the emperor himself, one of the most influential video gamers of all time also not a legend.
Amazing

Um, you realize that Boxer and Nada are still legends within the world of e-sports no matter how small it is, right?
You're saying the equivalent of "Roger Federer isn't a tennis legend because more people watch football."

Earlier last month, the "BoxeR Effect" was born. The VOD of GomTV.com reached around 450,000 viewers. The Live Stream reached over 750,000 viewers, overwhelming the servers and consequently shutting them down temporarily. This time, it has been reported that there were over 1 million viewers of the VOD of the BoxeR vs. NaDa match in Korean, and 66,000 viewers in English. The Live Stream numbers have not been reported yet, but it's fairly easy to predict its massive count.
I guess all those people are wrong about those two being important figures in starcraft. This game doesn't have the long history of let's say boxing or track and field but it has a fanbase that is growing every year with each expansion and each tournament that happens. On a side note I could care less for Carl Lewis since track and field holds zero interest to me.

While I'm thinking of it, a wishlist for the next expansion:
1. Warp-out via Nexus (not mothership). In other words, you warp-into an enemy base with Zealots/Stalkers/Sentries... then when defense comes you warp-out back to home Nexus. That would allow the more expensive Protoss units a less costly/all-in/risky harass option early on. Would allow them to put some of their units back in their army (a la Banshee). Could also help vs Marauder conc shells if you meet them in the middle of the map early on. Hell, put it as an option on probes too. That way protoss have a way to save part of an expansion like Terran (float) and Zerg (burrow) do.
2. Possible way to fix protoss's problematic expensive/non-flexible tech problems without changing them much. Warp-exit which would refund unit or building cost.
Went dark templar rush and was completely countered and lost half of them? Insta-lose? No problem, warp-exit all the dark temps you have left and the dark shrine.
Went immortal vs a 2 port banshee/marine build? Warp-exit the immortals. Now you have gas for an observer and a stargate.
Now you can have a small hope of coming back with a new tech... just will take 2 minutes to get, but better than nothing.
Think of it as the answer to Zerg's auto-tech switch or Terran's units which are fair to good vs most all other units.
I was not going to post where Protoss are trying to formulate strategy or whatever but even on paper this sounds ridiculous. Are you on crack? Sell back the units and buildings? This is insanity.

Just saying people should get off their high horse and stop thinking SC means everything. Personally I've been in several e-sports (Q2-Q3-CS-DOD-C&C) and I didn't know who these guys were until I read teamliquid.
And no, SC1 e-sports weren't appealing because a) they almost didn't exist outside of korea and b) it attracted a lot of the types of people like the guy I've previously responded to. They're not players, they're fanatics.

Entirely missed the point...
Besides the fact that 934.000 koreans have nothing more productive to do with their time than watch live starcraft is more worrying than amazing...

And only the less skilled play Protoss. Only the best pros play Terran because it's, oh yeah, more flexible
This is the whole Egg and Chicken argument.
If you're a progamer (meaning you make fame and fortune off the game), you will pick the race with the most advantages.
Then it just snowballs that more people swap to the FoTM because they want every advantage they can get.
I know it's easy to see the cons of your own race and the pros of other races (same with Protoss, Zerg, Terran players alike), but try to understand a little bit of what is going on here. And if you disagree, at least offer detailed arguments and supporting data.
and people really need to stop arguing about Boxer and Nada's influence in the world. We all admire how they play but arguing about whether they are basketball-level stars or soccer-level stars doesn't get us anywhere.

Versus what, watching sitcoms, Sports games, etcs? Are you just trolling at this point?

Who are you to judge how koreans spend their evening or anyone else for that matter? You are missing the point sir. You aren't grasping that in this little universe called starcraft boxer and nada are legends. Maybe it'll sink in or not?

I wonder how many people in USA / Europe watching mindless talk shows, dramas, series and such. I wonder that they have nothing else to do with their time... I mean, they could work, learn and such things, aren't they?

I suppose you are one of those few model citizens that actually do the best. You definately spend all your time working/learning/doing the right stuff. You most certainly do not spend time playing games , browsing through gaming forums , especially starcraft gaming forums. And of course you don't read or reply to game/starcraft related topics cos it's a waste of time just like watching starcraft games.
Oh wait ...

A side of that, I think the maps are the big problem, why not have a map with 3 gas geysers to start with? Or bigger maps like shakarus plateau will see more protoss dominating.
As for GSL, I watched all the protoss matches, and only a few games where the protoss went standard robo colossi build. Everyone tried doing DT, VR play, which I don't get why people are trying fancy builds as every solid top player are doing standard builds. PvP is a killer too, the main reason i switched from P to Z, I hate pvp with a passion and its pretty lame. Overall I think bigger maps is the key for Protoss for doing better.
This is insulting
I really rarely 4gated and did 0 proxy gates in the ladder. Only "solid" macro games.
And I can tell you I suffer more than ever.
vs T it's ok if they're going bio, because our "safe path" with observers lead also to colossi... which are good until a few HT (+with a lot of luck for EMPs). If suddenly it's a hidden thor rush or shit, that's completely different.
vs Z it became soso hard... 4/5 roaches early game (yes I know it sacrifies a lot of eco) dominates the P player and keeps him at bay for a few minutes. Meanwhile, tech to whatever he wants and you die. For example iIf you try to robo for his roaches, the time the observer sees the spire, mutas are in your base with a trollface. Well, I dont' explain everyhting well enough but I have the horrible feeling that P in PvZ IS the reactive race... but that the different tech routes cost so much it's very hard to kep up.

It's funny how easily a single poster can completely redirect the thread in another direction.
Lets kind of steer back on track

I think another problem with protoss is the use of it's nexus ability of chronoboost. i dont think its as good as larvae inject / creeptumour / transfusion or mules AND scans AND extra supply (and can also be a PF). It is good in the beginning of the game but later on it just doesnt cut it for many of the extra long upgrades or units in the lategame.
Maybe give the nexus another ability? or make it effect buildigs without it impacting in the early game so much.

Sorry I just saw him getting banned. Removing this post to not further derailing this thread.

The thing Protoss lack the most is Starpower in the GSL. There are some good Protoss around, but no one really amazing (maybe except Tester, but he got eliminated).
I have to agree with Tyler in the last SoTG, the protoss players didnt played really well in the last GSL, from risky play to poorly executed strategy, they didnt really shined.
Protoss in itself is fine (or close to) imo, they can still win tournament : NEXGenious in the blizzcon and HuK in the EG masters cup. And they need a little bit of time to figure out a way to play against the new roach.

A person who said so much about SC being nothing yet he registered an account and posted so much on this forum. A joke.

Nah. I think the recent balance changes by Blizzard to buff Zerg and nerf the Void Ray gave them a huge advantage over Protoss and this is reflected in the PvsZ GSL matches.
