I think this discussion is getting away from the main crucial factor of any manga or story--its plot. Sure Naruto wins his battles through strategy or through brute force; he and Luffy and Ichigo never gives up, thats the charming aspect about them, etc. But One Piece is without a doubt a clear paragon in which long mangas should follow to NOT fuck up a good plot.
If I was homework-less and bored I would not mind re-reading all three mangas to cite and support my argument flawlessly[or attempt to do it flawlessly] but as I will not do so, only view it as an opinion.
-All three mangas had great potential. No doubt they all began as rockets, with sky as their limits. I have to admit I personally started out with Bleach, god that manga was epic, I so wished it didn't fall from the clouds. Shinigamis-cool, character designs-cool, plot-heroic.

-Next I stumbled upon Naruto. My god, this had such great, great, great, great potential, even more so than One Piece or Bleach. It's universe is just SO diverse and so much endless possibilities. I mean when you learned about all the elements or different techniques, its just like a perpetual awesome-bucket. Ninjas- Hackneyed but still cool, designs--who cares, plot-TEAR JERKING, Heart wrenching epicness.

Let's not kid ourselves, Naruto's one aspect that hooked you in was its awesome plot at the beginning.
-Now One Piece, I reluctantly started to read because the other two was not satisfying me. It was the first Anime I saw though, when I was like in 5th grade, maybe? Saw a short excerpt on one Saturday morning, and the dub made me think that it was the stupidest thing ever. As we focus back into the manga, I have to say, man does this s.o.b. start out slow, I remember trying to start reading One Piece several times and probably quit twice before I fully delved into its universe. It's beginning is just really slow. But if you want to think of it as a slow starter, think of it as the rusty, trusty, turtle that wins against the hare in the childhood fable. Its characters are very unique, most unique of all three. Now I'm not bashing the other 2 manga's characters, I just think that compared to Bleach and Naruto, One Piece's characters are more unique because they are more developed. Oda[One piece Author], really progresses the characters as well as the plot. Now the designs[I'm using pre-OP time skip as reference], I would have to say is under Bleach and above Naruto. Bleach designs are most intrinsic, intricate; however One Piece design is just as intricate but with a bit more rural, home-feeling, laid-back style. I feel as if Bleach design compared with One Piece design is comparable to a Cut diamond to a raw diamond. Bleach is very cut, dry, sharp, delicate while One Piece is more raw, natural, basic and not to mention--immature. All in all, both have great design features. Plot as I have mentioned starts off slow as a fucking snail, there is no argument there but as I refer back to the turtle/tortoise, hare comparison, One Piece is more consistent, its development is more consistent, its progression is more consistent.

If you were to compare all 3, Bleach and Naruto both stormed out of the gate but they ran out of gas half way and One Piece jumps from 'Fantastically good' to 'Pretty decent' for the whole duration. And consistency makes One Piece better than the other two because as a reader you want the whole book to be good, not just one part to be good--otherwise what motivates you to continue reading after the good part is over? The 'good part' shouldn't end until the whole story ends.
***Up until the Time Skip, of course.
