So his earlier win against Royal ultimately means nothing if they get matched with each other again in a BO1 (where Sharp got disadvantageous spawning position). Essentially it becomes them drawing 1-1 for the series, but because Royal beat Miso (tier 4) and Sharp lost to Queen (tier 1) that Royal gets to advance.

No, if Royal won the first game then lost to Sharp in the final game then it becomes unfair to Royal as well. The group playing out that way shows exactly why the format has problems. You can say Sharp could have won both games, but that means he has to 2-0 Royal to advance, but Royal only needs to draw 1-1 to advance. Solution: either make the final match a BO3, or give 1-0 advantage to the player from the winner bracket.

bo1/bo1/bo3/bo3/bo3 full bo1 is too harsh and volatile, imo. especially considering that the qualification groups are full bo3 GGs anyway

That’s his reward for winning game 1 vs royal.

Bo1 is a joke and a major taint on the tournament series, and a major reason why KCM has become the premier showcase for Brood War. ASL is still awesome, but yeah, everything up until the Ro16 is just about surviving and dealing with lucksack. Unfortunately randomizing competition typically makes it more popular (the NFL and MLB are great examples, as well as the NBA's recent play-in tournament) to the masses. It just sucks for hardcore fans.

After 13 seasons, we have a new face came to the final. So many maps were created, so many matched were played, so many cheeses were used but nothing can overcome gosu's skill. Winners always are who play better in the 99,9999999% games of ASL and all league/tournament. But I would like to see Ro24 is bo1/bo1/bo1/bo5/bo5 (Losers should have a BO5 before they go home).

Royal won the final decider game. Sharp won the game that both players could still afford to lose. Different stakes, different games. A big-brain player could even deliberately play tricky and suboptimally in the first round of games and save the best build and energy for the decider games (loser or winner).

There are other good reasons to prefer bo3 or longer, but this particular objection isn't really relevant to that.

If anything, you can get more lopsided scenarios like a player winning the first match 3-0 but losing the decider 2-3, thus dropping out with a 5-3 map advantage over the person advancing. There are other good reasons to prefer bo3 or longer, but this particular objection isn't really relevant to that. Great point. In fact, BO1 is the only way to guarantee that a player advancing from the lower bracket didn't actually lose more games to the player he defeated in the final decider game (since the overall heads-up can't go lower than 1-1)...

Imagine if round of 24 had been the best of 7 - we would never see any lower class pro ever, and that would be just boring. All they do is get washed the next round
