Didnt they do BO3 in losers and deciders match last season?
Preferred that much more
I'm not saying EVERYTHING has to be BO3 bc they would take forever in SC1
But embrace some change for once, i think BO1 is so dumb, ESPECIALLY in matchups like PvP

edit: oops, I was wrong. There still is BO3 in RO16. I'm okay with that

Bo3, as with last season, starts in losers/deciders in Ro16. Also, honestly, I don't see what result would have changed. Maybe Horang2 advances second? So far it seems like the strongest players have advanced.

Personally, I enjoy when each match has huge stakes, but I don't really see how elitism enters into things. I'm just happy ASL is back.

They choose to embrace once's for tension. The kind of strong emotions such win or loss brings out from people (indeed maybe we wouldn't be posting here at all anymore) leading to comments such as yours is exactly why Bo1 is superior.

But to be exact, these groups are Bo3's for each involved player. Everyone get's second chance. Larva and Jyj were 1:1 and played decider. Same with Bisu. I don't see how matchups come into the picture.

But I understand your issue with formats, I personally would like to see OSL-style round robins again, I think that does best service for BW. So, there are of course many preferences they must be doing great job I think in accomodating most (see the Bo3 in Ro16)

Are these arguments you are willing to accept?

Here's some reasons:

1.It rewards players who come up with an innovative strategy against a particular player on a particular map. These are some of the most entertaining games, even if the diabolical plan fails. Go rewatch Nada's nuke timing push vs Larva on Blockchain if you want to see an example of this.

2. It adds a lot of suspense to every game while keeping the broadcasts to a reasonable length. With most ex pros streaming and playing other online leagues, it's not like we are being robbed of content with a short and sweet group.

3. Despite all of the fears of it somehow threatening peoples favorite player with an upset elimination, these crazy upsets are still very rare. Bonjwas and successful players have largely stuck around the top regardless of the number of games.

A great set of games this time in comparison to the first group and great performance from the amateur, JSK or w/e id he goes by. Larva's games as usual were entertaining though I feel like his loss against Stork shouldn't have happened. He had great defense in general and could've done more with his lings when he killed cannons at the exp. Seemed a bit rusty because I vaguely recall him having better gameplay several years back, but glad to see he advanced. Same goes for Stork. Going scouts and then surviving a brutal push by Jyj was great. Still not sure what I think of the new map since it feels more forceful than even Sparkle despite the fact that there is at least a land route one can take in comparison.

As for the BO1, I for one am glad that it's Bo1. Bo3 are great in later stages (quarterfinals and onwards) but group stages being Bo1 are great for both time and unique strategy perspective. Players also get a chance to redeem themselves and as mentioned above, it's rare to see favourite drop out even with this format. I hope Afreeca keeps it moving forward.

i think that in group stage of such a major tournament, especially in 2020, losers match and decider match should be bo3

especially that qualification tournaments are all full bo3..

That's an elimination bracket and these are groups.

But just to reiterate what has been said above and so those also have something to watch who prefer Bo3's in groups stages there's KSL. And we can check how many time even Bo5's were total sweeps.

Group stages work different and I think there have been many points fairly describing why it works better with Bo1.

I don't agree.
You have 3 games in your group - if you lose 2 you are out. If instead of a group stage we just had bo3s now no one would complain, but because it's 3 bo1s suddenly "lose a bo1 and you're out".
Hey, you want to still be in the next round? Don't lose 2 of your games.

I think one possible extension to the group stages that could be a positive would be a wildcard round like in the old OSL. Back when the 4th place didn't get a seed in the next OSL, and the third place in every group would play a single round round robin there was that second chance for whoever barely didn't make it without it turning into a dumpsterfire situation like the KSL group stages. Also making the 3rd/4th match matter more is always nice.
