Nine years have passed since the last WCG. There were no international tournaments of such scale since WCG 2010. Moscow 20th Anniversary Lan may come to your mind, of course, but this is just an open lan with European and Korean guests.
Please watch carefully and don't miss your region qualification match. Consult your regional referee for further information:
Yoda - Russian and Former Soviet Union qualification matches,
Gecko and Fischei - European qualification matches,
ZZZero - Polish qualification matches,
DocHoliday - North American qualification matches,
Fujikura - South American qualification matches.
Please check country list to determine which regional qualification you should apply for. Dual qualification is expressly discouraged. You are not admitted to test your luck in both NA and LatAm. There is one Online World Ladder quota for those players not eligible to qualify in either of six regional qualifiers (For example, Australia, New Zealand, Africa or Oceania countries). If you are one of these and you want to test your luck, please register a new account with Corrupted tag on Battle.net Europe server and proceed with you generic ladder matches (example: [Corrupted]Rus_Brain). The best player will get a paid quota for the final event. This qualification will last until July 31, 2019, 24:00 CET. If the name is too long and you can't register that, shorten your name, but keep "Corrupted" part intact. Example: Corrupted-RB. Corrupted Cup 2019 continuity bonus. I pledge myself to host Corrupted Cup 2020. But that does not mean players will reject a higher prize pool. Please donate @ Matcherino.com. Miscellaneous:

This is incredible! Brain is someone special for sure. Let's increase that prizepool to 10 000$ so that we can have another one of these next year (like Brain has promised if doubling of prizepool is met). Let's show our love of this game and its gamers. What do we have to lose?
Btw, Corrupted Cup is a funny name in a self deprecating way, but i think it will be a good idea to change it to something with more of a...Herculean quality? Or something simple and professional sounding perhaps. Will you take name suggestions Brain or is it set in stone? Cheers!

It is already set for 2019. It is as well reported to the Fund's accounting. The cup is made in Russia, the top-138 CPI, so the name is fair.

Yes, donating is appreciated. It would be a shame if something drastically had to happen to convince to raise some money for the cup.
Thats just awesome. People might wanna say whatever they think about Brain on a personal level+ Show Spoiler +
and a personally find Brain to be a super nice guy
, but there is no comparison to his offline tournaments . Just wow.
€: Also the "Quotas" or qualification spots available to the offline event seem pretty good to me. 8 qualification spots for Russia seems a lot, but if you really think hard about the quantity of top gamers we have these days from Russia, it makes a lot of sense actually.

Dewalt, spx, g0rynich aka Notforu, Lancerx, aaaand.. who else? 6 would suffice imo, because 3 from invites already. 4 from Poland and 2 from ladder. That would be ideal. But i'm not complaining even a bit, because 1) it is a russian organized tournament afterall and 2) it is an amazing looking tournament as it is, anyways. So glad that foreign BW finally will get LAN tournament it deserves.
you will understand the reason.basically LA and europe deserve more places but is a budget problem.so russian players are a good option money/skill wise

if is possible, i think the condition to bring new quotas should be at least:
(pay your own trips + stay hotel) + support with tour [ 10000/32 ] + collaboration [ mostexpensivetrip+stay / 2]
ie: travel by your own and support with at least: 1275 USD. which is not so much if you try with your local sc community or finding some e-sport sponsor

Remember there's ways to increase the prize pool, without having to pay anything out of pocket, make sure to do them, they're free and if we double the prize pool we get another tour in 2020

I think there are definelly more then 200 ppl who can easily donate 25$. Especially if we suggest average age of starcraft remastered player or follower as 25++. As i think it is almost nothing to enter and enjoy premium event twice. A wonder for me why so few donations were made...

I'm also really surprised regarding donations. This is a huge event. I'm not a big "donations guy" myself but this was an automatic one for me. I really hope the community is going to start donating, or... I guess then foreigner SCBW is really half-dead. People don't even want to have big tournaments. I'm not sure if it reached enough people though.
Trying to give people a bad conscience for not donating is the worst possible way to motivate people to actually donate.
And this is a huge event, and I love the initiative, SC/BW really needs an offline event like this and something that can bring forth the nostalgic feeling we use to have every year when WCG hit the scene.
BUT... I can only speak for myself, I dunno how everyone elses wallets look like. But I have 9 twitch subscriptions on 9 bw players + subscriptions on all league streams, I donate regularly on different players streams, I also donate to BSL, STPL and alot of other tournaments. And I will probably also donate to CC when I feel the time is right.
The important part to remember is that the foreign SC/BW scene is more than just the top 8 players playing in almost every playoff of every tournament. I love to see my A-team players in iRk battle it out against the best every weekend, but I just as much love to see my B- and C-team players playing in their different leagues every week as well, doing good and supporting them in CPL and LMaster servers different tournaments, or BSL Chobo league.
I think it is important for everyone in the community to support both ways. Why should 200 players donate 25$ for top 8, when top 8 rarely donates to bottom 200, or care for them at all? We at least have some top players making room to coach less good players in CPL, for example Dragon, Arew, Scan, Cadenzie. But keeping the community alive doesnt fall on donating to WCG, it falls when average players don't see any way to progress and loses motivation (that's why some of us clans started the RAN-initiative), that is my opinion on the matter. <3
And to give you a good way to get people to donate and actually gaining something from it, sell hours with the auto qualified players? Donate 25$ and get 2 hours practise with gorynich, dewalt, spx or eonzerg. That might motivate some people to donate for the cause! <3
On May 29 2019 00:58 iRk-AGge wrote: Trying to give people a bad conscience for not donating is the worst possible way to motivate people to actually donate.
But Brain is not giving anybody a bad conscience for not donating, if thats what you are saying? He is simply offering this tournament, with this payout and this structure. Basically it's the same every other TO does aswell. Him offering players/viewers to alter parts of the structure/payout/etc of the tour in exchange for donations is just upside, when comparable tours of this calibre didn't have such an option. So, if you think that the payout or the spots per region are not to your liking, sure thats opinion and fine be me. But i can't see how anybody is coerced or anything into donating. You can just take the tour as is and enjoy the show.

you click the quote button on the bottom left of the post man (; perhaps you can't see it on your mobile device or something? Anyhow, i wasn't sure what exactly you were responding to, thats why i asked. And i gave my two cents on the matter because the topic has been discussed in other replies in this thread.
My post wasn't about motivating people to donate, I just wanted to express that I'm also surprised due to the lack of donations. I mostly agree with what you said, and maybe my thought regarding half-dead because of this is a bit far. I just consider this tournament (or something like this would be/) is currently the most important thing for foreign BW. You mentioned lower level players (like myself). I think if there is an annual event like this more and more people would try their hardest to improve just to maybe have very little chance to qualify. I'm fairly new to the scene but listening to people talking about old WCGs just makes me think an annual event like that would help a great deal. (and maybe if we can gather more money we would have more spots, and in a couple of years something like old WCGs, I think that would be amazing - I know it's just a dream)
edit: in short: we have the leagues that you mentioned fortunately, but we really lack something like WCG
Maybe the name of the tournament doesnt bring the WCG feeling to it. If this was named Foreign Broodwar World Championship or something, maybe more would see it as a "Who's the best foreign player-tournament".
But now it's Corrupted Cup and to be fair, when you read through the EU qualifier thread, it doesnt really scream "this is a serious thing!!". Wich I allready given feedback on to Gecko. Advertisement is everything if you want something to become huge. If you want it to be noticed, give it a GREAT name, make a promotion video, make people nostalgic. Like how Gecko handled the launch of BWCL, that was awesome. That 5min promotion video made me want to take the BW scene seriously again. <3

Trailers, pictures and in-depth articles take a lot of time to produce, more than I'm currently able to produce. If you're willing to boost the image, contact Brain and/or just produce hype content on your own if you can. Btw, this is directed at any reader, not AGge in particular.
It would look much better, and being organizer of the FBWCH would encourage people to help out even more to make it large! Because when you make it a "World Championship" it is for everyone. While the explanation of the name "Corrupt Cup" is a referense to Russia being one of the most corrupt countries in the world just gives it a feeling this is a russian tournament for russians with invites for the rest of the world. It is totally okey that there is 8 spots for russians and less for other regions, WCG had simular structure back in the days as well. And this is your tournament, and you are the one who deserves the credit, but if you want it to have the WCG feeling, advertise it as a global tournament with a global name, then you'll have your very own WCG!
It's also awesome that you are using some very influential community names as referees, but make sure they take it as serious as we want it to be, if we want it to be WCG. Because WCG was dead serious. If I were to try and get sponsors for iRk players (if they qualify) for this tournament and would give them the link to the EU qualifier they would prolly laugh at me.
But as I've said, this is just my opinion and this is your project, feel free to do whatever u want with it! But I have alot of experience in organizing as well, since I am in the fitness industry and arrange alot of running, cycling, powerlifting tournaments and promote them.

Well thats a very interesting point and i would like to jump in on that. I think, Agge that your expectation here, which many users here might share and the very different advertisement of the Corrupted Cup has something to do with a "cultural connotation" in a lack of an better expression.
I mean to say that we, as the the english speaking part of foreign broodwar, are very much accustomed to the "big hype" videos, announcements and coverage, that not only gives a lot of information about the event but also very much tries to sell a feeling of *awesomeness*.
I don't mean in a negative why, because i like hype just as much as most do. Let me link some examples here:
The god father of hype, TSL 1 trailer is giving nerdchills since 2008..
And TLS 1 follows suit here. While being very different in aesthetics, this video also tries to make it very clear to the viewer that we are about to witness a great, monumental and memorable foreigner tournament.
i could link some more videos and try to analyze the structure and language of the newspieces for tournaments announced on TL.net, but i think you know what im talking about.
Also, a lot of pieces of coverage that have been done in the past are much more humorous in comparison to the very clear cut aesthetics of the "westerners" Defiler Tour 68 Hype
So, im thinking that we [english speaking fans who spend a lot of time on Teamliquid mainly] and the russian community[centered around reps.ru and defiler.ru] have different expectations towards tournament coverage. Without deeper thought, my first impression is that the russian scene values the "big hype" and the extensive coverage a bit less, but puts greater emphasis on just having a good time, being humorous as well as active participation.
If we look at the corrupted cup, we will find two of the aspects i mentioned. 1. Obviously the name is a bit ironic and thus "unfitting" to our expectation as you pointed out 2. By installing the option, to change the format of the tournament by donations, the organizers encourage active participation by the viewers.
Thats my 2 cents on the matter ^^
p.s.: Also, it might purely be a matter of ressources and time for the TO and it's fully possible im just talking nonsense here
It was just suggestions. As I said, it is your tournament. But you have stated this:
2019 will bring you WCG-class tournament rebirth.
Corrupted Cup 2019 is an offline tournament to be held in Moscow, Russia, on October 12 - 13, 2019. The tournament was inspired by World Cyber Games with a number of qualification matches held in Russia, FSU, Poland, Europe, North America, and Latin America.
And if you want it to be WCG-class, you need to think global and not Russian. But anyways, I'm just trying to help out. I bet alot of people from the foreign scene would help out with a big gobal tournament. That's what I mean with making it like a World Championship, then people will want to be involved. But if you don't want them to be involved, then that's totally fine.

Actually the only thing that matters is viewership. It could be called 'PUCK YOUR MOM SUPER CUP', but if Ninja was casting it, they would sponsor immediately. And they would laugh at you even if it was 'WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP' because best case scenario there will be 1000 viewers on the English stream. And I don't believe in the best case scenario.
I think Rus_Brain is just tired of trying to look serious because it doesn't change literally anything.

Probably because in 80%+ of the qualification pools there is already quite a bit of certainty on who is advancing.. It's the same players who have been winning tournaments for past 2-3 years. The Moscow LAN will be quite a bit of fun to watch I'm sure but it's still quite a ways off.

Yeah Yaj i had this thought too, i'm inclined to agree with you. It can't be helped tho, the aim is to make the offline finals an event with the very top % of players. And ofc if we talk about the quotas per region, it is a factor that can dissuade participation i agree. Then we had a bit of an “underdog“ winner in EU#1. At least i didn't have Oya in my short list of likely winners beforehand, but he deserved it. In the EU region, with Eon invited, we had a very levelled playing field i think. In other regions, there are much more clear favorites.
I don't quite agree that the same players attending is the problem.
In both ASL and KSL there's more or less the same players attending, with some variances. The same can be said for top foreigner tournaments. But it's still possible to create hype. It's more about creating emotions than the actual prize pool, or the variety of players.
I think you misunderstood me. There is no problem or issue with expecting the best and most active players to advance. It's just that this creates very little drama for the qualifiers. And no one should expect people to continually post in this thread for the next 4 months until the finals occur.
yesterday we had the America Qualify 1. this week will have Qualify 2. the winner of each Qualify wins 1 paid trip? thats means theres only 2 spots for America? or if a player can afford to pay his own trip he can particiapte?

This is only true if you only care about the results, otherwise still some great games are played and it's fun to watch, and there are some underdogs to root for, for example I did not expect Oya to win in EU.

Unfortunately not, Temil. You are, of course, welcomed to come at your expense as a spectator, and highly likely you will have a dozen of games with eleetes, but out of the tournament scope.
should give a third quota to LA has more player than any continent was demonstrated today in the second qualifying, in oceania I think there are only 3 cats ranking better that quota for LA

Broodwar 4 ever! Here's my heartfelt support hard-earned money to support this wonderful, unqiue tournament that revived WCG for me fill the pockets of some foreigner Gosu!

The past reputation of the person is untrustworthy. He was caught hacking a decade ago. For this reason, Favorit's verbal assurances that "I am Russian" were rejected, and a copy of the Russian passport was requested to prove the Russian citizenship. Nothing followed. Favorit tried to deceive Yoda into belief his participation was well approved. When I've looked through the brackets half an hour after the RU-Quali#4 started a ban followed.

Like you said, we discussed this subject before, that's why I was even more surprised getting banned after beating tokyoa. The last message from you after I asked if I can play the Russian qualifier was: "Anyway, I cannot disallow you. So you decide" Regarding having the German Flag on TL and Liquipedia: I didn't pick it myself. I assume it was set by someone back in the day when I lived in Germany. Anyhow, like I explained to you in our discord conversation, I have a double citizenship (Russian and German). Currently I am staying with my girlfriend in Göteborg, but I have never said I'm Swedish. The only place where I'm officially registered at is at my house in Russia (not Germany nor Sweden). I'm not sure what offline tournaments you are referring to, but i haven't played BW for like 7 years until remastered came out.
Yes, it's true that I used maphack over a decade ago and that is definitely not something I'm proud of. I understand if some people are still biased about this subject, but I can't make it undone.
Indeed I offered you to send my passport and even pay myself for the flight to Moscow, since it wouldn't be fair for you to pay for another flight from Europe, when the payed quota is for traveling costs in Russia. Since you didn't say that you need my passport before the qualifier starts and didn't reply to my latest message, I assumed it's enough to send it IF I qualify at all.
"Favorit tried to deceive Yoda into belief his participation was well approved" - i have no idea at all what you are talking about here. I didn't even talk to Yoda until he let me know about the ban. I obviously wouldn't have registered at all and wasted all of ours' time if you would've just said that I'm not allowed to play it in advance.
All in all, it's unfortunate that we had this misunderstanding about WHEN the passport is to be sent and i understand your position in this. Anyway, if possible, I would like to have the opportunity to still send you the passport and challenge tokyoa for his qouta.
Favorit discussed with me the possibility of his participation. According to his profile here @tl.net and @liquipedia.net he was always considered German. During the time of my quarrel with AgGe he referred himself being a Swedish citizen. I have seen him participating in no single offline tournament in Moscow.

Fifteen minutes of fame granted, and that's enough.

I think, if he prooves Russian citizenship, he can challenges any Russian qualified guys and it would be enought for rematch and to be quite fair. E.g. Tresha is nearest possible target.

I'd if this is Favorite P player you are talking about but I its the same guy I'm thinking I always knew him as from Finland/Sweden. I even had him in skype at one point when we are on better terms. Irk-favourite or idk... so if thats same guy I can say 100% I had no clue he had any german or russian in him.
I think it would be quite hilarious if favorite/zarrr could play in the russian region.
Zarrr has been a member of the german team since forever, he played in all sorts of german clans, participated in german forums, hell he played for the Ger Team.
Regardless if he owns a russian passport or not, i think you can't be allowed to play in the national team of country A but then play country depended qualifiers for B.
It shoould be handled like in sports: once you pick your country, you have to stick to it.

So if u have 2 parents, 1 from russia and 1 from germany, moved from germany to russia for 8 years, u shouldnt be allowed to play in the qualifier even if u have a house there?
Stephano qualified for SC2 tournaments as a Tunisian citizen few times, while also playing for France in Nation Wars. So, I guess, it's up to tournament organizers. And they have to pick one point of view and stick to it.

I think the main point is that nationality, or at least national teams is in general such a restricted arena that once we open the door for dual citizenship, we enter a gray area that might be hard to navigate properly. And seeing as Favorit has historically been German in the BW community, it might be odd if he's suddenly switching over to the Russian side in order to gain access to a tournament. And that's a fair point.
However, there has been nationality switches before in the community. I remember Mireille switched from Norway to Sweden (had parent from each country, irrc). And although there was some hubbub, I don't think there were any restrictions later on (except maybe jumping from one to the other, ofc). Others will remember this more detailed than I, though. But there is some presedence.

Yes, there's precedents, but i think there is no case in point here. Zarrr has been historically playing for germany. Now he moved and resides in Sweden, wich would put him in the EU Qualifier as well. He's not living in Russia, he is not hugely active in the russian scene from what i understand.
Whats the reason other than his interest in being eligible to play?

OH NO YOU DIDNT! Let's handle this like sports, shall we? I wasnt suppose to add anything to this discussion, but this is just rediculous.
Let's use German Athletics Federation as an example when it comes to cheating in sports. A german athlete that tests positive with a banned substance in his/her body is banned from all competition for 2 years, then he/she can start competing again. In sweden we have a 4 year ban and the person can never compete professional again. In USA there are f.e american football players, sprinters and baseball players who get caught with steroids in their body and still only get 6-18 months ban before they can start competeting on pro level again. In Russia the government deny deny deny eventho 43 athletes are sanctioned from the winter olympics 2018, and an ongoing investigation of proclaimed forged documents of drugtests of athletes for the summer olympics in 2020. (Thanks Germany for the investigation) Favorit on the other hand is banned for life if caught hacking 2008? There are numerous former players who got caught hacking in their early ages and still got to keep competing for years and years without the community organizers having anything against it, for example, Testie
Let's use football as an example when it comes to playing for different countries a U21 player with multiple nationalities (two/three on passport) can after he's turned 22 choose if he wants to represent his current country or his native. Before 2004 a player with multiple nationalities could even switch as a senior. Most famously Alfredo Di Stefano, who played 6 games for Argentina, then 4 for Colombia before he choose to play for Spain in the late 50s. And since Favorit last represented Germany as a sc player when he was 20 (early 2008), wich sports rules should be applied on him?
Another interesting note: Gamvit was allowed to play in the NA qualifiers eventho he's only been in the U.S for 1,5 years and dont have an american citizenship, why was the rules overlooked for him? (now don't get me wrong, I like Gamvit, he's a really nice guy and if he qualified I wouldve loved to see him in Moscow, like I wouldve loved to see JerryK97 (who lives in London), but he's not an GBR citizen so he did not sign up for the EU qualifiers)
Aaaaaaanyways, you can keep making up whatever arguments you want, but in the end Favorit was banned because he had a grudge with Rus_Brain, and Gecko seems to hate him. And that is totally fine with me, but don't act like SC is anything like sports nowdays, because sports has always been about coming together, and for everyone, even if you fucked up once or twice. <3

Meh. I said my private opinion here, not gonna blow this more up. He told you he applied to the EU quals before he applied for rus? You can't switch your nationality just because your excluded in your region.
Don't wanna derail it. Take it to discord if you see a need Agge, you have my number.
Why would you say that I applied for EU quals? Its simply not true. It was you who messaged me and invited to the discord (which i didnt even accept) before ur Boss Gecko told you that im not allowed to play it. Dont act now like it was my initiative pls. If u dont remember, just check our chat in discord. Not with one word have i "applied" for it.

Which is correct after checking the logs, point taken. I remembered that wrong. You still have no claim to a spot in the russian quals imo, for the reasons mentioned.

So in theory, if this Favorit was a "good guy" (which for some reason he isnt), which quali should he applied ? EU ? RUS? or none just because he's unlucky with location/passport or whatever

In theory he could have probably applied for any of them but in reality he obviously is shady and a liar so that should be enough to stop him from any tournament dont you think? I'm also not sure why this is an issue when he is a noob and will only have to pay travel expenses to be wrecked by higher tier players. And isnt germany famous for letting hackers participate in qualifiers? Selector being the greatest example.

Once again if the skill level is the issue, why was there even open qualifiers?
And to explain yet another cryptic answer from Mr Brain
On July 03 2019 07:43 Rus_Brain wrote: I'm just trying to help him to keep his word, nothing more.
This isnt WCG or WCG class tournament, WCG never restricted anyone from participating in their qualifiers or in the final event. This is an eSport.fund event and therefore admins can ban whoever they want, and that's fine. Just don't act like it's because of breaking rules Favorit cant play, it's because the organization don't want him anywhere near the tournament and that's partly Favorits fault. So just make a statement so people can end the speculations.
Better up I'll make it for you...
Favorit isnt allowed into the tournament because he said to Rus_Brain and I quote from their conversation with the whole BW Jeez situation:
On February 24, 2019 "Favoritheute um 16:21 Uhr u want to make my real name public? i have russian and german citizenship, with different last names, which one do u need? anyway dont worry my friend i have never and i will never play any of your tours so i accept my ban and wish u, ur family, and ur tournament all the best in future davai"
Since Favorit didnt want to provide his personal information, he accepted the ban. And therefore he's not allowed to play in this event. Matter is solved, case closed.
Now let's all enjoy this event and stop with the flaming. There's enough hate in the world as it is. <3

Ah so this is what its about Fair enough. I can respect that, it was true at that point of time and the conversation in February was about jeez tours. When gory suggested that I ask you if the ban applies to CC or not, I followed that advice and you told me that it does not. Otherwise I obv wouldn't have bothered trying to qualify at all.

During BSL6 I asked Favorit about which country he wants to represent in ladder. He chose Germany. And was counted German for the BSL6 Nation Wars rankings.

Why would I need your permission to disclose Favorits answer to you? I have not posted any parts of your end in the correspondence. And I had Favorits permission to wrap things up, that's enough of permissions.
Agge - just one thing - when shit went down with the first match-fixing scandal (savior era) - They were not allowed to participate in any WCG qualies/tourneys and the 2008 championship was taken away from Luxury who won it all. And guess what - they are all not allowed to participate in gaming events in Korea forever and ever.
I don't want to be in the middle of this but I can see a lot of miscommunication between you both with Brain and in the end, both can be right from their POV.
The only thing that is sure is that Favorit is a hacker (in the past but who knows...), a shady person in general, and nobody likes such people around them. Especially when you put money on the table.
You all are giving too much attention to issues with people who don't do a thing about the community and have no regrets for the things they've done.

I don't want to be in the middle of this but I can see a lot of miscommunication between you both with Brain and in the end, both can be right from their POV.

Well guess what, Testie, Trek, Selector, all known hackers, have participated in gaming events all over the world, even after getting caught hacking. Testie even got invited to Korea.
I still have nothing against the ban of Favorit, I just think that if you ban someone you should put all cards on the table and tell the community why, so we don't have to see one of our friends being trashtalked in the forum threads because everyone makes up their owns shit version of why he was banned. How does keeping the reason of the ban secret, helping to bring the community together? As you clearly can see, since it's all speculations in here, the community is now devided into two parties over a petty thing that could have been avoided from the beginning.
What do you know about what Favorit does for the community? He's been coaching noobs in CPL last season, he's helped out with coaching both iRk-B and C-team players ever since joining iRk. Just because he doesnt put up 5k dollar on the table and says "I arrange a corrupt tournament" doesnt mean he's not involved in the community. There are so many people doing so much for the community that you people dont know of. Take the whole CPL crew for example, take STPL crew for example, take BWCL crew for example, take LMD server people, take every clanleader of the active clans that survived since remastered came out.... None of them need to flash their cash, but still dedicate parts of their lives for the community. And when something goes wrong, when there is complications or whatever, the admins don't just write one line of cryptic shit as an answer, they take their time to resolve the issues and make sure the community know why they've made the decision.
Just compare Jealous response to why he banned Ty2 from the NYC Lan with Rus_Brains response to why he banned Favorit. Both had the same scenario. The persons in question got banned, and questioned the decision in the forum thread respectively, Jealous wrote exactly why he had made the decision, while Rus_Brains response to Favorits ban was "Fifteen minutes of fame granted, and that's enough."
Ofcourse us, the ones who likes Favorit and think he's a great guy, will react.
And I guess this was my "fifteen minutes of fame". <3
Yeah, you missed hackpro as well, who even hacked twice at big events (e.g. I remember WGTCL finals)... the 2nd time even after being caught... And he was popular in SC2 as well.
I can see your point, but as well there is a counter point on the other side.
If it depends on me - once a hacker is always a hacker. We have plenty of examples in front of us to continue giving chances to people who do bad things.
And yet - I don't see any kind of remorse from Favorit's side - just him trying to be sneaky and "break the system".

He wrote this... and it's not easy to show remorse when you have no clue why you got banned in the first place.

When gory suggested that I ask you if the ban applies to CC or not, I followed that advice and you told me that it does not. Otherwise I obv wouldn't have bothered trying to qualify at all.
gl hf to everyone who made it to the finals.
Well I guess we're just more forgiving in the northern parts of europe. I played in the NA qualifers because I am not a shady hacker with a terrible past and do not have residency issues? What was your point lol?
And I lost the first week to back to back ZvZs and I lost the second week to back to back ZvZs. I had only one MU in the bracket outside of ZvZ and that was a ZvP vs your boy iRk-Tim whom I slaughtered. Thanks for asking!

This situation is completely out of control PR-wise.
To be honest, bringing several inconsistent reasons why you won't allow X to participate when you have a solid one you won't mention except when pressed is not something you should do often. Agge made his point clear on this.

Now, for clarification: i am on staff for the eu region only. Decision was made by Brain and Yoda. That means i gave my personal opinion on the matter [if favorite] is eligible to play in the rus qualifiers.
I didn't talk at all about the question if he could play with regards to the hacking history in the first place. It's not important either.
Question of why favorite can't play in rus qualifiers is a question of nationality/which region fits for him. He can't because his region is europe.
Question if he can play in europe is a question of: do we allow an ex-hacker into the tour. Answer is no.

This is even more confusing. Assuming he's "clear" now and could apply, is Russia his region or EU? You seem to contradict yourself, or that's what I see at least. First you said he belongs in the Russian qualifier, then you say his region is Europe.
My point is that this whole nationality debate is preface for him having a poor reputation for whatever reason. Which I'm fine with, plus I know nothing of the guy. He's being fairly mannered in this particular thread, so props to him I'd say. It just leaves a sour taste - say he does not belong in the tournament because he has bad history and be done with it. Other arguments don't hold too well under scrutiny so far.
That's the impression I got. Picture could be completely different with more information.

Nope, i said in my first post here on the subject that i consider favorite/zarrr as a player who is -technically- eligible to play in the EU region. By exclusion he is therefore not eligible to play in the RUS region.
My points tl:dr: -he was always considered a german player in the past, playing for german clans, writing in german forums (secondary argument if you will) - he played for the German National Broodwar Team in the past. - he was counted as German in BSL 6. Basically all the big Lans are held in Moscow, so thats the same as saying he never attended a russian offline event.
Based on that i see no reason at all to even consider him eligible for the russian qualifier. And that was the initial point asked here to which i responded.
The question why he was banned from the EU qualifier is a different question to me and was raised only afterwards:

So my point stands: regardless of the region he's not to be allowed to participate because of some stupid stuff he did at some point. Say as much and be done with it without all the national fuss. That was Agge's point and I support this position.

dunno, if you consider hacking "some stupid fuss" thats your cuppa tea.
What really causes confusion is that Rus_Brain seems to state that as long as Favorit could prove he's a Russian by providing a passport, he would be eligble to play in the tournament. Even if Favorit got kicked out of the tournament for not having presented it in time, it could still be debated whether or not he should be able to challenge the winner of the tournament granted he showed a passport before the games take place.
All discussions about being a hacker, a noob, how we preceive Favorit's nationality etc. is honestly irrelevant compared to that.
Either he's banned for not being Russian, which seems to have been the first argument. Or he's banned because of the Jeez Weekly incident still being enforced. Or that he's been a hacker, for that matter.
But unless Rus_Brain clears this up properly (maybe with the help of Gecko/Jealous, in order to communicate it better), all we have are speculations and a discussion that has gone too far.
My point is that he wouldn't have been allowed in the tournament if he was living on the Red Square. Rightly so, but then why bring all the nationalty/region stuff into it? It's irrelevant as he's not allowed in the tournament because he has a history of hacking and, apparently, has behaved poorly recently. Which is completely fine.
Any single one he chooses, provided that he is eligible by nationality. So far the only reference to Favorit's "Russian citizenship" is his account @ TL (which I could have created stating somewhat Nauru citizenship). All other references indicate he is either German or Swedish. The only known proof of citizenship known to me is a passport copy. I have told Favorit that revealing the passport will activate a conundrum created by himself back in February when he objected to reveal his personal information under the GDPR. The loophole is, either he provides the passport copy to prove his citizenship now, confirming he lied back then. Or he lies he is Russian now, by proving nothing. So I offered to just step aside. To the contary Favorit decided to register and play in RU quali covered by Russian VPN or whatever deluding Yoda's basic checks whether battle.net identifies your profile as "RUS".
Sec II There is a rulebook, written long before this discussion:
Sec 5.a. Using any tool to give an unfair advantage over other players is strictly forbidden and may result in cancellation of everything due to you
There are people here trying to "interpret" the rules, or object to Testie, or Selector past reputation. Although I can see neither Testie nor Selector taking part in this tournament, for such people I have simplified the reason for Favorit's ban to be just personal, which was much easily accepted.
Let me reiterate
Either he's banned for not being Russian, which seems to have been the first argument. Or he's banned because of the Jeez Weekly incident still being enforced. Or that he's been a hacker, for that matter.
All fit. Choose any which is easier for your understanding.

Because thats the question that was raised. It's a two-step checking process basically. If he isn't eligible in the first place for the russian qualifier, there is no need to even check if he COULD play given his history. And i commented solely on the nationality question because thats the matter i can say something about with confidence.
It baffles me, but if it is like that, then it's completely innocent.
My suggestion is that the two-step process should operate with checking for offenses first. The community is not that big, people usually have reputations.

And guess what, at least Testie and Selector (and several others) misused the trust others put in them with a second chance and hacked several times again after it. So why don't we learn anything from the past and just ban ex-hackers from competing once and for all? And no, it being "unfair", is not a legit reason. No one is preventing ex-hackers from playing the game at all, but they should be banned from competing. Especially considering that it is just a video game and you can just step away from it, without any real life implications. There has never come anything good from letting hackers back into the competetive scene.

This is wrong assumption. His profile considered Russian because it was created in Russia. Battle.net doesn't change your location immediately and I even have a feeling that it never changes location. From what I know, kogeT lives in Denmark, but battle.net still shows POL for him. Jerry lives in UK but has KOR location. I can remember a lot of examples.

So players that arent top level shouldnt be able to at least try their chances? Tell me then why you Yaj was trying too qualify in the NA qualifiers? And please tell us how it went!

Usiing Q~berts (aka Yaj) post as an example of a person who doesnt like Favorit. lmao, Yaj, the guy who flames everyone, gets banned everywhere and is a total douchebag in genaral.
Players that aren't top level shouldn't post their grievances day after day considering no one else cares, they aren't missed, and ultimately their effort will be in vain when they will not progress to the next round.
And I don't flame everyone. You're a nice fella - I have never flamed you. I have never said how pathetic it is that a man in his 30s takes such pride in being an unpaid manager of a team of a video game. I have never said how cringeworthy and douchey it may come off that a dude in man bun would stream their trash 1500 mmr game play with their shirt off. I have never said how creepy it is that you type hearts to every other dude in chat on a daily basis.

LOL. OH NO YOU DIDN'T @ Agge @ Favorit.
@Taardiel:i don't know how you interpreted this whole scenario here, but the point i tried to stress is that I think favorite is not eligible for rus qualifiers because he belongs in the rus qualifier.
In my pov, thats the main argument.

Thats my view on it.
The wiki lists him as german player. As we learned from hatchet_man above, he himself did choose so. (primary argument) - additionaly he currently resides in Sweden, he owns a dual german and russian citizenship and did not [statement by Rus_Brain] participate in a Moscow Lan yet. + Show Spoiler +
On July 03 2019 04:49 iRk-AGge wrote: Let's use German Athletics Federation as an example when it comes to cheating in sports.
[relevant part marked by me]
And that hackers, even if well in the past would not be allowed into the EU qualifier was said very clearly communicated in the OP for the EU qualifier
Quote from the rule section: "2.Right of Admission (II): The administration will not accept the entry of any known hacker or cheater, regardless of when he/she/it was caught breaking the rules. The same logic is applied to known abusers and trolls."
Once again you have totally ignored to reading my posts and everyone elses for that matter. But it's okey, Your using "my pov and imo" instead of reading what everyone is writing. Then you wouldve seen why he wasnt allowed to play in the rus qualifiers.
is Russia his region or EU?Any single one he chooses, provided that he is eligible by nationality.
All fits. Choose any which is easier for your understanding.
Finally a serious answer from the organizer and person behind the decision. Now we can all leave this whole debate and get on with our lives. Still cheering for this event to be a success, and wish you organizers all the best in the coming fall and with the final event in moscow. <3
On July 04 2019 14:12 Rus_Brain wrote: @Hatchet_man in any case not relevant how the "RUS" location was achieved.
My point is that Favorit didn't do it on purpose. It's just how battle.net works.
You wrote in your statement that "Favorit tried to deceive Yoda into belief his participation was well approved." And if he did it by only having RUS location in his profile, than this point is misguided. Maybe he did something else, I don't know. But right after your post Favorit replied that he had your approval in the form of "it's up to you to decide" statement.
Anyway, I agree that this situation had to be resolved univocally before qualifier started.

Ofc we don't include koreans and chinese, but the reasons should be fairly obvious.
Dunno what Brain thought, but thats my idea about it.
imo, it's okay to allow chinese players. Korean and Chinese gap became too big compare to the old scene where PJ and LX were there and compete Korean players. I probably can name only 2 to 3 players. Mihu (T), Zhanhun (P), LX (P)

I would still think chinese can be pretty strong if they have incentive. Keep in mind they are most likely the only nation to have the most double passport citiziens with korea. I would consider them half koreans and obviously have a much better connection and practice partners with all the best players and still have pretty bad lag with the rest of the world. So yea I think reasons should be very obvious.

So I just thought to post this to make some noise and hype, since its 14 days 22 hours until the biggest event in the least 7/8 years for sure to happen outside of Korea
Wow! I got such goosebumps! Thanks for posting! And yeah, we really need much bigger hype for this event! I hope at least next week's pylon show will be about Corrupted Cup!

Also can't wait for the Pylon Show ep about Corrupted Cup. Artosis already said something about that, hope it will happen.
Newly added restricted bugs: Added September 30, 2019: Pylon Maphack(allows finding opponent starting position without actual scouting); Added September 30, 2019: Distant Pylon(allows building working structures without a nearby pylon).
In previous weekend BSL casts I promoted donating to Corrupted Cup Prize Pool, I will continue to do it this weekend too. Let's hope it will help and we will reach the goal, because this amazing initiative needs to live forever !

I agree that 500$ is a bit too much, cuz if somebody will pay it and will get place from 4th-8th he will not earn anything actually.
EDIT: and what about the trip payment? The costs and lack of time are limiting players actually for only those from Russia. I think qualifies for Russians would be better idea!
"Hey, Brain, RUB20k on my account, or I won't go. You have 24 hours to comply"
Tresha's spot is for sale. $500 to prize pool.
Bwhahahaha i knew it was too good to be true for tresha to play live! No way he can be cursing in public while saying his mouse is not good enough for his apm lol. Oh well, all the best to Svetlana Viktorovna.
And rofl @ all of you asking for a fair price for his spot. You can't put fair in corrupted, you just have to pay and pay big. Or have connections :D
Personally I would like if SouL)Z(Silver takes Tresha's spot. Though unfortunately I can't fund $500 for him, it's too much. Think this quota makes sense only for RU players since visa preparation takes some time.
Another RU quali is def better than free slot, but let's see how this resolves in the end.
the announced 10 hour period is over, i think Brain will soon announce what is happening. Perhaps somebody already did donate the 500 $ required and will attend.
Other than that, all jokes aside i agree with Wallace here. It is distasteful and disrepectful towards Brain to bail out / blackmail so short before the event. All the preperation and logistic Brain made happen just to give players a great tournament setting. It's also a slap in the face for the player who could've taken Tresha's spot in the RUS qualifier. The 10 year ban announcement is the logical reaction to me.

From liquipedia it looks like Circuit Breaker is gonna be game 1 in the ro12, and I presume loser's choice after? Or maybe veto where loser has first veto or something.
Ah, not for all the groups. At least Artosis' game now starts on Power Bond.
does anybody know the rules for groups? Does win-loss matter? Like if a group ends up with all players going 1-1, but one player won 2-0 and lost 1-2, one player won 2-1 and lost 1-2, one player lost 0-2 and won 2-1, does that mean the last player is eliminated, or is there tiebreaker?
This is important for several of the groups now.
Basically, if there is differentiation, then Dewalt can knock dandy out of the tournament by losing 1-2 vs gag in the final game. Koget needs to beat Eon 2-0 - he's still knocked out with 1-2. And even if artosis beats TTF, he would be knocked out if ttf beat spx 2-1 in the final.
Edit: got answered, win-loss doesn't matter. So if all players win 1 and lose 1, theres a tiebreak. that means koget is still in it, and that terror has not yet qualified.

Yea this really delivered. Many fantastic games. Bonyth almost knocked out by Hawk. The ro12 group of death delivering like no other.. Artosis almost making it but having a none too great last game..
Many upsets and great games all around. We had a never ending tiebreaker and a lot more notable games :D I especially liked the floor interviews/interactions done by Zzzero in the spare time, it really shows the great atmosphere of the event. Same goes for the live blog with all that snapshots and memes.
Great job on the streams and the games, thanks Rus_Brain for bringing us such a great event. It looks like everyone is having so much fun over there in Moscow. I really liked the laid-back streaming style, too. Reminds me of when I used to watch BW with my friend sitting at the computer so many years ago.
There are ~800 combined viewers on the polish, russian and english stream. Thats really big, congratz to the coverage team. Anybody knows how much are on the spanish?

Congratulations to Corrupted Cup organizers and players for the success of the event (2k viewers including all platforms)!
The previous CC tournament I raged about the korean players invite and some people were concerned about viewership so I'm really glad that this year CC did really well as a foreigners only tournament!
Yeah, wanna take a moment to thank Rapid for his casting; it was ridiculously good.
And of course Artosis as well, whose face expressions during TvPs said more than his words ever could. Although, there were some lines that were legit hilarious, eg. "this is not a build, this is protoss".
Huge shoutouts for Rapid for the amazing casting once again and Artosis for joining him adding that analysis and honestly looking amazingly excited the whole way through the tournament.
Great players, matches, locality and casters. Fingers crossed the next will be bo3 even in the earlier stages of the LAN. RUS_Brain keeping the BW dream alive. PogChamp.
I lack words to express how great the tournament was. It was everything i hoped for and so much more. Big thx to Brain, Pomi, all the staff on the scene and all casters and players. It was purely awesome!! See you all @ CC 2020.
Thanks for Rapid, Artosis, Bob, ZZZero, Pomi, Babymagik, 3D team (u3 especially). For I may have made a day for 23 players (and let it be +30 local obs), and they have certainly made a day for ~2k broadcast viewers.

Protoss dropping a reaver and dt from shuttle “this is a war crime what he is doing right now”. Brilliant :D
Artosis grinning like a little kid during game two of the grand finals when things were looking good for Terran is so sincere it's hard for it not to be contagious.

Artosis had so many good moments, especially in the final
Can a friendly russian link the full rep pack with all reps here perhaps because dumb Sauerkrauts like me and LML can't read kyrillic letters? That would be great :D

Only shows you are not true russian. xD Thx for the link.
I have my passport but it is against the law where I live for you to demand for me to give you my name, I also lived in Germany in 1994 and Holland in 1995 but now am no longer living there so I should be able to use the site and read to find out where the replays are because I am Russian even though I played for American team in Nation Wars.

I've uploaded all replays to my app scbw.gg (link to tl.net forum page in case you don't know what it is). You are able to exploer them there https://scbw.gg/events/1/44/ (sorted by played date)

Go to the first page of this thread, to the OP by Rus_Brain, scroll down a bit. It's explained right in the first paragraph.
Basically it means that they think of this Corrupted Cup as a World Championship of Broodwar, just like the World Cyber Games were, with participants from "all" countries of the globe. That comparison is a bit crooked obviously, the cup had mainly russian/polish/european players, koreans excluded. But given the state of Broodwar it's quite legit. Most countries don't even have a pro-scene to speak of, not even semi-pro-scene I guess. This cup pretty much reflected the current cream of the crop of the foreign scene with just a couple of exceptions. And with koreans in it, the winner(-nation) would have been pre-determined.
Was an insanely fun tournament, rapid and artosis was a blast to watch, (also mad props to artosis for sticking around commentating even if he was a player in the tournament)
Don’t follow too much brood war but watching some replays of this tournament got me even more interested. Happy to see artosis play competitively and show good games.
Anyone know if there will be another one of these? I hope so

same. i think the only barrier would be how long it takes to raise the prize pool. not sure how long it took this time around. would be nice to see something like this each year, though.

RUS_Brain confirmed (if I remember correctly) I think before that there would be another one next year if we hit the donation goal and we did I think :D
this was an awesome tournament. watched 2 days straight. even my recent eye surgery could not stop me!
rapid improved tremendously. i really enjoyed his casting throught out the tournament with artosis' remarks. good job team usa.
bonyth was a beast. i watched his streams regularly this year. i wasnt surprised that he won. terror was also one of my favourites so it was a joy to watch the final.
eon performed poorly. he has not been playing well lately so his elemination was not surprising to me but i want to see him perform like 6-7 months ago. dewalt was also a disappointment but trutacz outclassed him so we can say that dewalt did not do so bad, truetacz just was too good for him.
i would also like to congrutulate koget who i think played a very nice tournament.
my best regards to all of you, especially to rus-brain who had a part in organizing this awesome tournament. very well done gentlemen. very well done.
edit: by the way. although i expected more from artosis', hawk's win against bony was a joy to watch. it was a very nice game.

Corrupted Cup 2020 confirmed. And with bo3 in ro24 afaik, too
CC 2020 is confirmed, albeit I never promised the same amount of players. The format of the tournament is yet to be polished and revealed later. The tips I can give at this moment: - Increased possibilities to qualify, - Increased value of a spot (fewer spots, harder to achieve), - More condensed skill level of the non-Korean world.

Yay I’m happy to hear that. I’ll be putting in for the prize pool once I’m able to! Loved the tournament

Bo3 Groups may also be "conditionally confirmed".
Interesting numbers in the report, I underestimated the travel and hotel costs. This tournament had the biggest foreigner prize pool by far since the last WCG but the travel costs still made up most of the costs of the cup, lol.

Great tourney, makes me really glad that i live in Moscow. Hope the next one will be done here as well.
Financial report
Damn, its really cool that you've made it publicly available. Really gives you a feel of the scale of expenses for such tourney. Almost ~$3k just in allowance! This one surprised me the most, i didnt think cash allowance was even a thing at all.
- Increased value of a spot (fewer spots, harder to achieve),
Aww, this is too bad. I loved that so many people were brought together by the event and was hoping that their number could actually be increased next year, perhaps by cutting the allowance or spreading the prize pool more evenly.
Surely, those who truly love the game would still be happy to visit even if they had to pull some cash of their own. I imagine its the prestige and the ability to hang out and play against other top foreign pros that attracts people to compete in the tourney, not the cash itself.

Understood.
Sounds great nonetheless. This kind of thing (tournament) is much needed in the BW scene atm, so thank You for all the support. You're already a legend in my opinion.

16 players would maybe actually make more sense
ro16 bo3 double elimination + ro8 through finals bo5 SE would be great. Less players, yes but Closer in skill, so maybe the tournament would be even better
This was an amazing event for not only the players, but the rest of the community to watch - thank you Rus_Brain and team for organizing!
One suggestion I'd like to share is to have something along the lines of the final LAN event being reduced to maybe 8 or so players (could do the RO24/RO16 online), which should help to cut costs and expenses. But not only that, it could also really help in regards to the production quality by casting all the matches with post-game interviews of some sort. That way, the final 8 can be easier to follow and you can build better hype surrounding each match, rather than having multiple streams concurrently casting different games. Before the matches, you can do something similar to BSL's production with pre-game stats and a general profile of some sort and whatnot. That could definitely create for a much more hype experience for the viewers, although the downside is a smaller LAN gathering might not be as much fun.
Whichever direction Rus decides to go, I'm sure the event will be great, but just wanted to throw in my two cents. Grats again to Bonyth for winning!
Some of the required questions was impossible for me to answer since i did not participate in the LAN, but i just made sure to mention that fact in the last section so that those answers from me did not matter.
