Crying for JD. It wasn't cool to pick him, Flash.
Aren't they close? Didn't Flash help Jaedong practice for Last? Wouldn't be surprised, especially with Jaedong pulling out of KSL, that they wanted a guaranteed LeeSsangRok right now while they had the chance?
They were exciting games, just hard to stomach with Jaedong choking twice in one night.
I love how Flash dismantles every argument about JD's "bad play" in his post-game analysis. Some people don't understand how deep these guys know the game. They don't just suddenly play bad. There's always a good reason for what they do.
After reading Flash's interpretation of the game, I wholeheartedly agree with Letmelose's claim of Flash as having the best general algorithm for reading every in-game situation (and quite a few metagame ones). It's crazy how good he is at not only playing, but explaining everything in such a clean way as well.
I'm beginning to wonder if Flash should just start up a pro team and be a coach, as he is so so sooo good at breaking down a game into its component decisions and chaining them back together into a coherent win condition.

Now that I understand why jd did not focus on econ more on CB vs Flash, the burning question that is left was why did he attack action with those mutas.

Someone said that he messed up his patrol hotkey and couldn't micro his mutas like he is used to.

I disagree with this, Flash doesn't dismantle the arguments about JDs bad play, he provides a deeper explanation for it.
Flash himself says that it was a bad play by JD but provides context to why JD made that play.
But even if it is understandable for JD to do what he did, it was still a bad play, the probability of that attack doing anything was very low. But maybe the option of macroing and defending instead had an even lower chance of being successful in the end.
I don't see why these two instances of JD must be scrutinized like this. Ever since his return to BW he has had ton of games where he just keeps attacking and/or throwing away his army. He is overly aggressive and it seems like he is so used to being able to make the impossible happen by pure power of will that he can't cope with the fact that his body can't keep up anymore. Regardless of how he feels about his odds in a macro game or whatever, he can not play the way he did during his prime anymore. I was really hoping that he'd eventually accept his condition and create a new style around it. Maybe we'll see it when he returns from his service.

I was under the impression that it's the exact opposite and he can't play long macro games because of the strain it puts on his body
Hi guys, I've been watching the ASL for a while, but I just registered here to ask a (probably) very dumb question. I noticed that Light's in-game screen on the minimap seems to be wider than the ones from other players. It is as wide as the observer one, but still as tall as the ones from other players. From what I know, they all have identical monitors, provided by the tournament, and they definitely look widescreen.
Does this mean that most of the pro gamers are still playing with the original BW textures, in 4:3 aspect ratio and with the black bars on each side of the screen? If so, why would they? Wouldn't the ability to see more on screen eventually overcome the need of adjust themselves a bit to the new textures / screen sizes?
Now all of a sudden at the end of all this, zerg is suddenly making more mutas and lings. Why would JD do that instead of adding drones? Because his hatchery drone kept getting cut. JD continues to all-in attack if you aggravate him like this. That's his psychology and the type of player he is that I know. This is however a very bad decision. I couldn't have won if he focused more on getting the hatchery, filling drones, and switching over to lurkers after the initial hydralisk attack. But you guys can't give him too much of a hard time for that. This is the 5th game, the final set, and when those important games go off the rails of stereotyped pattern and becomes chaotic, it's hard for even champions to stay cool and make the most calculated decisions.

You can see that pretty well in this picture:
They who play with 4:3 aspect 4:3 want to challenge themselves. They don't want to get win games easily.

I don't know of any pro that uses old graphics but many use 4:3 still. Outside of habit, there's the advantage of being able to scroll the screen easily.
I wouldn't dismiss the strength of old habits though, as even in CSGO there's still pros using 4:3
Jaedong talks about the games here, can anyone translate? Someone else said that he switched his patrol hotkey in the game vs Action so he couldn't micro mutas properly
his mouse set up was fucked prior to game 1. he miraculously got the sensitivity right at the end and won. 2nd game was unloseable but he realised his hotkey setup was fked (im guessing client error) and his p and q was switched. it threw him off pretty bad and a lot of thoughts went through his head regarding whether he should pp or not, but because he was in such a lead he just attacked and shit hit the fan.
also, id like to point out that that analysis by flash is the kind of standard all pros think at. obviously flash will do it better than others, but thats the amount of depth the game has. i remember pointing out on tl once that the pros thought of things in the game that arent even discussed in the slightest on tl, that the foreigners were clueless about the standard at which pros actually play at and i got laughed at. nice to see people finally realising how good pros really are

Its pretty common knowledge how good pros are. If anything, it would be the opposite -- we probably like to use exaggerated statements to humorously describe how good these guys are. After all, that is the allure of watching professional sports isnt it? The "wow" factor of watching fellow humans accomplish feats you cant even begin to comprehend doing. So I find it very surprising that folks here at TL would laugh at you for pointing out something that should be the very reason they come here as fans of the game!

Man.. that sucked for JD, I wish he had just paused the damn game.
Jaedong took a large positional gamble (赌) in game one by 'exploding' lings (爆狗, cut drones) and killed enough marines on both sides to make the gamble worth it. Although flash defended very well as a 防守大师 (a lesser terran would have lost the game imm after the gamble), jaedong was able to keep 3 lings alive at the natural, disrupt mining/turret timing and followed up with top notch muta micro to win.
