At one point the numbers were fairly even (just before Action got 2 more mutas hatching) where he killed 3 of JD's mutas in quick succession. At that point the fight was over. | ||

And the last game, I feel like JD is washed up nowadays, he has his strikes of brilliance like in game 1 but he lacks this aura of old times. You know, when one was up vs JD and you thought "Ok, you're the underdog, prove that you can take a game off JD." Now there are enough players where he is the dog. When he wins, it is incredible fun to watch, but his blunders are numerous. With his execution based playstyle, his age is just showing. It is obvious to me that Flash's strategical and tactical genius is less prone to be affected by age (obviously Flash is fast, but speed and precision is more important for Jaedongs playstyle). Despite making the KSL1 finals, I'd prefer Jaedong would have retired years ago. It is just too painful for me when he loses. | ||

Funny to see Light's depot placement at the ramps after Flash takes the Dong to the face game 1. Last game was pretty crazy, see lots of people saying Jaedong threw it away but Flash made lots of mistakes that gave Jaedong an advantage too.(getting his vults pinned was a big one) Both sides made missteps but Jaedong's over-commit with mutas and only a 2 base eco wasn't enough to support the massive amount of units needed to counter the follow up after Flash manages to hold. Flash also crucially denies Jaedong's third for a while with the vultures. Jaedong has hydra tech but they are past their prime effectiveness. Dong tries to drone up but Flash pushes before Jaedong's eco can take off and before he can macro up enough to stop him. GG! | ||

The first game between JD and Flash was vintage JD, capitalizing on early aggression and ling control to set up a superior position for a later play, which outright killed Flash. Action vs Light was one of the most entertaining series I've watched in a while and kudos to whichever terran Action practiced this with. This was no improvisation and having a reliable opponent to practice this particular obscenity with is a great benefit. Action then did great vs JD, they were trying to outplay each other tactically for quite a while in ZvZ terms (double digit game duration without major damage suffered by one player is rare in my ZvZ experience) and then Action had better scourge connections and the benefit of fast reinforcements. This guy is getting scary. Didn't he eliminate Soulkey last season and then beat Rain in the first match of their Ro16 group? The TvT was Flash being an order of magnitude better at the matchup than Light. I really respect Light, but it is what it is. And last game was so tense, the buildup to the big push at Flash's natural was pure genius by JD in my opinion. He never relented, never allowing Flash to play comfortably with the small numbers of units 1-1-1 has in that part of the game, forced him to invest in a bunch of turrets against mutas and slowing his tank considerably to bust his natural with hydralisks afterwards. The build order and larva management was so fluid and seamless I almost cheered for JD (and I never cheer for a zerg, especially in a ZvT). The major turning point was the two clutch irradiates, where JD either couldn't or didn't want to (he tried to in the first engagement) split his mutas, so he lost all of them, losing control over the air and allowing tanks to set up great defensive positions. Being hyper-aggressive and low-eco all game, he had lost there already. The science vessel is such a scary unit in the hands of a pro terran. When I play they're just expensive flying trash cans with a funny sound effect when they die; oh, and they provide detection for a bit before I lose them. Congrats to Action, he really deserved his first place. I'm sad that JD was eliminated, but hey, Flash got to continue and one of them had to lose. We can't have it all And there was someone that voted No in the poll about the first game between JD and Flash. I'm a terran fanboy and a Flash fanboy in particular, but nobody is allowed to be that salty. | ||

Maybe someone can explain JD's move in Game 2 to attack? He had all advantages as i could see it. More Drones & Spores. And why attack with all the lings 5 secs AFTER the Muta attack ended?? And what was he thinking in the game vs. Flash? Waisting all the Mutas. Idle Scourges. Even then he could have won it seemed. But waisted the rest of the army as well. While teching & droning up. I can see why he lost the final game against Flash, even if he didn't get overly aggressive and lose so many mutas and hydras for nothing, his economy and tech was so far behind he didn't really have a big advantage even if he was on 3 bases vs 1 mining for flash. But Flash had so many workers and all the tech he needed so he could mass units quickly as he retook his natural. Still, would've been a much better game if JD tried to defend that push instead of throwing so much away making the push a easy win for Flash. And it would've been a really exciting game from there if he was able to defend. But he had a drone advantage and a much more powerful defensive position, why did he throw his mutas away against action??? Why didn't he just wait a bit more and build up his army and maybe do some harass? As he had spores protecting him against counter harass... That action game made no sense to me. | ||

The build order and larva management was so fluid and seamless I almost cheered for JD (and I never cheer for a zerg, especially in a ZvT). The major turning point was the two clutch irradiates, where JD either couldn't or didn't want to (he tried to in the first engagement) split his mutas, so he lost all of them, losing control over the air and allowing tanks to set up great defensive positions. Being hyper-aggressive and low-eco all game, he had lost there already. The science vessel is such a scary unit in the hands of a pro terran. When I play they're just expensive flying trash cans with a funny sound effect when they die; oh, and they provide detection for a bit before I lose them. Congrats to Action, he really deserved his first place. I'm sad that JD was eliminated, but hey, Flash got to continue and one of them had to lose. We can't have it all And there was someone that voted No in the poll about the first game between JD and Flash. I'm a terran fanboy and a Flash fanboy in particular, but nobody is allowed to be that salty. Maybe part of it is the pain in his wrists, or medical conditions, but it's likely he's pressuring himself too, to overcome the Ro16 and make it to the quarterfinals again. I'm sure to Jaedong, he still remembers prior victories and being a champion and add on the expectations from the fans, and it's too much. Was just painful rooting for him here yet again, only to get greeted by another exit from 2 games where he held great advantages. Imagine if Jaedong advanced first or he eliminated Flash. It would've been the best story this ASL, bar none. Snow beating Flash last ASL, even with maps that favoured P made headlines. Now Flash loses twice against Jaedong on "mostly" standard maps. We would've had another champion this ASL (assuming Rain just loses lol). Too bad, the hype was real in this group and Jaedong again couldn't deliver. Either way, I'm sure it's the most painful for him so hopefully he rests up and recovers from this. ^ Sharp beating Flash? Nah, doubt it. Sure, Last, Rain and EffOrt likely have a chance if they meet him. Shuttle can still pull it off, and Mini is one of the Top 3 protoss atm that certainly has the skills. Whether he manages to contain his emotions and play as well as he can is another story. As for Action, hard to tell but proxy hatcheries like today likely won't work on Flash. He'll sniff it out, and stopped it before it takes place. | ||

After the first attack on Flash's natural, JD needed to do one of two things to win in G5 1) Kill the vessel while he had air control 2) failing #1, kill the low-ground CC and transition to 3base lurk-ling ASAP. After failing #2, JD's loss was just a matter of time, as Flash had vessel tech, didn't lose a single vessel or tank, while JD had made and lost 7 mutas and about 18 hydras and had a massively delayed 3rd. JD could have exhibited godlike play from that moment onwards and still lost. Overall, JD showed a lot of aggression and good instincts, but had uncharacteristically bad micro. Failing to kill the vessel while he had air control was a micro failure... not like the JD we know and love. | ||

I disagree with this, Flash doesn't dismantle the arguments about JDs bad play, he provides a deeper explanation for it. Flash himself says that it was a bad play by JD but provides context to why JD made that play. But even if it is understandable for JD to do what he did, it was still a bad play, the probability of that attack doing anything was very low. But maybe the option of macroing and defending instead had an even lower chance of being successful in the end. | ||

Now all of a sudden at the end of all this, zerg is suddenly making more mutas and lings. Why would JD do that instead of adding drones? Because his hatchery drone kept getting cut. JD continues to all-in attack if you aggravate him like this. That's his psychology and the type of player he is that I know. This is however a very bad decision. I couldn't have won if he focused more on getting the hatchery, filling drones, and switching over to lurkers after the initial hydralisk attack. But you guys can't give him too much of a hard time for that. This is the 5th game, the final set, and when those important games go off the rails of stereotyped pattern and becomes chaotic, it's hard for even champions to stay cool and make the most calculated decisions. | ||

If anything, it would be the opposite -- we probably like to use exaggerated statements to humorously describe how good these guys are. After all, that is the allure of watching professional sports isnt it? The "wow" factor of watching fellow humans accomplish feats you cant even begin to comprehend doing. So I find it very surprising that folks here at TL would laugh at you for pointing out something that should be the very reason they come here as fans of the game! | ||
