You know, I heard that studying your opponents scouting and scanning patterns, then using their lack of information to your advantage is considered outsmarting someone.
still believe it was a fluke.
What do you mean by fluke ? If you mean Dear wouldn't win a Bo5 against Flash, I think everybody agrees with you. If you mean Dear was just lucky, you are wrong. Other player can be smart and find holes in Flash play. I love Flash, I think he's the smartest player in bw, but I'm also happy to see that someone smart and determined enough can find holes in his play and exploit it. It is both a testament to the strength of the proscene and of the depth of the game.

Well, I think he just studied Flash, not all his opponents. And that just gave him a advantage against just Flash, he still needs to play to more S class players, and see if really is the rookie of he year.

But whatever, well played Dear, well played.
No, that's totally fair. No one is saying Dear is S-class, and if they are, LOL @ them. I would not, even after today, say Dear is favored vs Flash in a BoX.
Dear's job was to snipe Flash, I feel like that's pretty clear, based on the interview and his play. He beat Flash by tricking Flash into thinking he was doing "X" via hidden tech, when he was really doing "Y" and beat Flash by doing that.
Holy shit, Just looked at Dear 's match history. He beat firebathero , Light twice, Sea twice, and lost to Flash and Best but he just beat Flash . He has some sick vT .... too bad he didn't get to show it off for Oz

Coincidences happen in Starcraft, Dear hid the tech and made an obs first / pylon walled his third to give flash the false sense of security against reavers, and the location he hid his tech /shuttle at was at a location flash isn't known to scan / be able to scout at that point in the game; these are all things Dear did right and is brilliant mind gaming / preparation ahead of time. But Dear couldn't have possibly predicted that Flash would cancel his turrets when he saw the pylon wall at his third, that's something only someone as ballsy as flash would do just to squeeze out any possible advantage they could get. But at the end of the day Dear executed his well prepared snipe strategy well and he did outplay flash in this game.
As much as I am a personal fan of flash, there shouldn't exist someone who's 100% dominant in a competitive scene; especially in a game like starcraft, if there was an perfect strategy or build order where the only barrier was execution (apm, macro, micro, scouting, etc) and the only counter was executing the strategy better, then the game would grow stale and be boring to watch to everyone except statistic analysts and video-game programmers.
The fact that there is this much community attention in flash just losing one game is already proof that he is a great player (perhaps one of the greatest of all time and definitely the best right now), and we should be happy that he is making other players push themselves to find inventive strategies (dear did 1 gate expand -> robo -> obs /shuttle -> shuttle speed / 1 reaver + 2 lot drop while hiding his tech, the reaver, the shuttle, as well as shuttle speed from flash who is known to have very good scans, then followed it up with a bull dog break with 2 shuttles before flash's third was up and flash's macro could kick in) and making the BW scene much more competitive and enjoyable to watch. As we can see from the post-game audience reaction and interview, Dear was ecstatic and more motivated than ever to be a great progamer as a rookie (which is exactly what we need to keep the BW pro-scene active), and flash was contemplative but not negatively effected by the loss - he's still going to keep winning, refining his strategy, and learn from his mistake. Results like this we should be happy to see and GOOD FOR ESPORTS, rather than fighting among each other and segregating the community.

And then he got transferred to KT. You know, curse is a curse.

no outplaying or outsmarting here
whoop dido
A rare QQ post in the threads! Holy, you actually have over 100 posts since your epic 5k post failure =P
Oh and yes, I agree that Dear 'out-prepared' (interview: he said he studied Flash's scan patterns to hide his tech) and 'out-smarted' (he refined and executed a build that gave him a big advantage over Flash) his opponent. I mean, Flash has been playing on a thin line all the time and he makes it look easy because he out-smarts his opponents most of the time. Not this day, it seems, and all the credits to Dear!

Dear friend - I don't know if your post is serious or not. I'm assuming it is so I would like to respectfully disagree with you. The players you've named are known for their horrendous vP. Light is a vP punching bag. Sea has been getting stomped by Protossi all season. Poor little guy used to own in the match-up but times they have a-changed. Firebathero is decent - but used to suck hard vP when he was on Khan. Check out his game vs. Jaehoon. Both guys are just playing drunk from the looks of things:
Dear manhandled Flash. Like Stork did Hiya. Like Stork always does. Fast third, harassing with reavers. The Byung goo way. Watch out for Fanta though.

Check out Light's and Sea's vP this season man o.O
I'm not saying Dear's not good vT or anything, but beating Light and Sea this season count for very little =/
Good build and preparation today though, i had fun watching.
