I just wanna take this space to thank Plexa, Scara, deL, Carnac, Divra, Manifesto, Bill307, Kennigit and pachi for their help, advise, support and giving us a gay sex vent channel. Big thanks to Shauni for being our hero, to all the guys who played and all the volunteers who helped us when ICC started fucking up. Music was "Into the Arena" by Masterplan. It was pretty cool, but as has been stated many many times, the mic volume needs some serious scaling and tweaking. Pholon was much louder than LeperKahn (at least while I was watching).

the idea is totally awesome, games were a bit dissapointing though, the players were wayyyy too bad. Ofc the idea is for them to be worse but being able to stand a chance due to handicap.... but some of these players, oh my god :p

Maybe you could host a D tourney for people who want to participate and you choose the participants from the highest rankings down to make sure they are not D---. n_n

The players should get progressively better just like ff7. I say try to get like an A- or A player to do it and have the opponents go all the way up to B rank. But the concept is still fucking brilliant. Great job guys.

Great event, hope to see part 2 soon. But here are a few things to look for:
- Make sure you have all the maps
- If you're doing double comentating make sure that both of you are loud enough
- If you choose Ret as next challenger plz force him somehow to stream himself. Double Vision would be great =)
- Maybe rebuild the randomize map in 8 steps:
first trigger for step 1 (easy) - no sound, no upgrades etc.
step 2 (more challanging) - no ralleys etc.
step 3 even harder etc.

.
up to trigger 8 (ultra hard) - Ally AI, first worker kill etc.
- to make it more exiting let player with higher ranks play the last games

The Zerg should have 5 pooled + attack with 6 lings and 4 workers... for the swarm!

I dunno, none of the players really seemed like they were that bad, every one of them had 90 eapm +, and most were 100+, several having above 130+ . Shauni just honestly played really well, although the lower ranked players made some random mistakes, that's kind of what makes them lower ranked. A C+ player would probably have stood a very good chance from the 6 gateway max cap on. Drawing no sound/ no forge ups probably helped a bit.
Edit : With that said, he never played any C players, I don't think. C- was highest.

I cannot comprehend how a D+ or higher terran player can lose to someone who can't make obs, zealots, and has a gateway cap.

Um, is game 7 the wrong one? The one I have is 30 seconds long. I remember hearing about clearing a minefield with mass dts, don't see it in this, just them saying "wrong map".

straight lurker hydra ling seems like it would be very strong to me..
as noobsofwraith said i cant imagine a terran losing to a toss who has to basically go mass goons off 6 gates either..

Thanks guys! It really was a treat to be able to do this. Pholon is a lot of fun to cast with. I really apologize for all the technical stuff. My computer has never freaked out so much!
I'm glad that we got through the first episode and hopefully we can come up with a few more exciting opponents next time. That being said the people who played today did great!

I liked the event a lot, and I thought the idea was pretty awesome, but the player quality was pretty subpar, a lot of these guys just died in the first 5 min due to not doing proper bos or wall ins, and noone really abused the handicaps properly, better players C- to C+ will help make it more exciting and fun. Also noone could actually hear leperkahn, infact pholons echo was louder than leperkahns voice, so it was just basically pholon solo with silence, turning up the game volume would be better too. Otherwise its a brilliant idea, and hopefully its even better next time.
PS: trashtalk helps from every side, the player himself, the commentators, and the players facing the player, it helps make boring matches a lot more fun and exciting. If trash talk can make COmbat EX vs Chill extremely entertaining, it sure would help here.

Loved the premise of the event, hopefully next time you can do it with more difficult handicaps and better fodder!
Also mentioned was the vent / commentator volume control.

He played really aggressive for the ones I watched (like winning with early goons vs Terran) and a lot of those restrictions didn't hurt him so much vs the race he was playing (like no storm PvP/PVT). I think his plan was to win before gateways cap/no upgrades/no obs would matter. No idea how he won without Storm, Obs, Upgrades or Zealots PvZ though.

This seems like an interesting idea!
I like some of the handicaps, like only being able to use 6 gates, or the worker suicide thing, which would prolly slow down someone a lot.
I wonder how well the game went when Shauni wasn't allowed to get obs and he faced a Protoss user. musta been some mass dt's in that game ;o

Fix the sound so we can hear both, the sound was so fucked up it gave me a headache. Learn how to correctly pronounce the 'heroes' name. Make it so you don't have to rehost the randomizer map.
It was fun to watch... Just not to listen to.

It was so fun haha, even though i played my worst game ever, seriously, its not worth the watch, my 2 gate fail miserably cause i a-move the wrong place on the minimap. So embarrassing, but I'd play next time too, it was really fun. Great idea

And for you who said that they died far too easily, an A- player will win quite easily even against a C+/B- player, the skill level is quite big even when it's just a few ranks. I was a bit nervous in the PvP on medusa when I had the no obs handicap. I realized I had to pressure him with mass zealots because if he was allowed to tech to dts lategame would be such a pain without observers, storm and gateway cap...
It feels like some of them focused too much on using the handicaps to their advantage - falling short because their builds wasn't very refined, like rushing for lurkers or mass vultures/mines thinking the units would win the game automatically...

I dont know how to do the replays, the comp asked which format it should be placed in, I choose "starcraft" placed it in the replay folder still cant see it, any help?
And gj Shauni, I can't imagine how the T players lost without you going lots (you could just BBS or 2 Fact and you'd lose lol).

Yah I think the way to go might be to defend against what the better player will be doing, and THEN use strategies tailored towards exploiting handicaps.
