I posted the replay, although it's embarassing just how many times my muta fleet of 2.5 groups or so ran through turrets and goliaths, i kept thinking i had enough to take down his stuff, but maybe he macroed better than i did with my constant stalling;p or maybe it was just the upgrades..i just felt like they melted sooo fast.

ahzz (or anyone else) , tonight i for the first time tried drop play instead of muta play as zerg vs terran mech. I'm D+ish, i seem to stay in low D+ in my main non-lag account. I also play from home with lag like today, but i don't think the lag was the issue. I think what happened was that i tried to muta switch with no upgrades and it didn't work. Should I delay drop a little while and get upgrades for hydras and mutas? cause that seemed expensive. I managed to take down the terran 3rd on his first expand attempt. shut down one push and destroy a bunch of his nat with drops. I started my spire sometime after this i think. So probably started +1 carapace around the time +2 hydra attack was almost done...anyways, i'm wondering whether it is worthwhile to even build mutas at that point with ups behind..maybe i should have just continued hydra play, hive was out and defilers would come soon too. Anyways, if anyone looks at the replay i bet i had the gas to start that upgrade much earlier even after all the hydra and drop upgrades..i just didn'dt think of it since i had hydras. you kinda want to keep making muta carapace even if you arent making mutas at that moment. You also want to time the drops to his main (or maybe nat for that matter) to a point where he is a bit less prepared for it. For example when he's moving out, or when he's getting ready to move out and all his units are stacked at his natural and cant get over very quickly etc etc. Don't hurry too much with trying to kill him. Be a coward. Backstab him, attack his expansions when his army is attacking your expansions, drop him, avoid direct contact unless your army is overwhelming or if you've been able to separate his army up a bit. Keep attacking at his weak points. Obviously this isn't as easy as it may sound, but thats the gist of it. Usually you have no chance of beating a mech army right away, which is why you're forced to playing tricks, denying reinforcements as possible, and attacking when he's not prepared and running away etc. The thing about mech is, that they cannot rebuild their army like playing with bio. getting down their expansions and economy hurts a lot, which is why backstabbing is quite powerful. Especially vs mech you need to execute the essence of zerg... You keep expanding. Even if he takes down one of your expansions, it should be far better for you because you should be able to take down HIS expansion easily in exchange. 1 expansion for zerg isn't that much, but 1 expansion for mech terran is huge. If their economy is mostly dead, their army cant grow. This allows you to slowly take his army down little by little when he shows openings (without wasting units), and eventually running over him. It's complicated, and takes practise. Another thing to keep in mind is that usually when you think you have kinda enough to kill his army, make your army 1.5 to 2 times bigger before attacking. Naturally you should try to prevent reinforcements however possible.
