A friend of mine asked for some ling-proof walls for the main base on Fighting Spirit. I've provided some pictures for you good folks to view and consider:

Position: Top - Right
[image loading]
It requires a CC, but this wall is ling-proof.

Position: Bottom - Right
[image loading]

Position: Bottom - Left
[image loading]

Position: Top - Left
[image loading]
This is a weird wall but it works. Putting a factory on top of the first two depots doesn't seem to work

Position: Top - Left
[image loading]
Vulture pops out on the left side.

Position: Bottom - Left
[image loading]
A lot of people already know about this wall-off, but it is ling-tight and doesn't require a factory to complete.

Position: Bottom - Right
[image loading]
I put the barracks there so the vulture will pop out on the right side of the wall.

If you know of a better wall for the top right position, post a picture of it. I tried a bunch of stuff, but nothing really seemed to work out. The CC wall might be good for a Terran trying to expo against speedlings. The others are good for factory openings where there will be a shortage of early-game infantry.

I finally found a wall for the top-right natural. The bad news is that the units will pop out on the bottom side, but it is ling-tight.

Here is another CC wall for the top-right:

Guten Tag!

Oh nina, I love you, too

Thank you for those pics. As I do play 2on2 and mech is quite common in this play-mode, this will certainly help me. Really appreciated ;D

For those who don't know, you can wall in all four locations on Fighting Spirit with 1 Barracks, 2 Supply Depots and 1 Command Center.

Here is an example for the top left (found by my wall-in algorithm):

Generally, Factory, Accademy and CC wall tight on all four sides. Armories aren't bad either, but you probably would appreciate their continued survival too much to want to use them in a wall...

Any reason not to just stick to a standard wall?:

As rax CC walls could actually be quite useful, here are some optimized versions:

in the top right position on the ramp there is also the Cryoc Wall Off, where instead of CC you just put 2nd Depot.

your right this is only zealot tight. well here is the image. where the Marine is standing is the only entrance for lings, but SCVS and zealots can't get in.

It's probably a little too situational if it takes more than 2 supply depots to wall in against lings. And if you're going to wall in vs Zerg, it's definitely preferable to do so at the natural, and kind of important that marines pop out on the inside.

Natural wall in without fac is nice because you make it hard for the Zerg to guess what you're doing. If the overlord is not nearby, they can't tell if you took your expo, you're building marines, or you're teching. Building the fac there lets you expo pretty quick which I guess is nice, but you have to be careful about a Zerg who likes speedlings and make sure you scout well. Supply depots can go down pretty quick if you've only built one marine.

One of the things people don't always consider about walls is repair and attack space. There are some minor changes you could make to some of your walls to allow more scvs to repair at the same time and less lings to attack. A good zerg will sometimes exploit a wall that has not considered this properly.

Command center walls are probably acceptable but not that useful. I think they are more important when you have a wide choke you can't properly defend. When you can just put marines on your ramp, it's nice to be able to hide your intentions. You need marines either way, since you can't repair a command center that's building, and it has a large surface area to attack.

A friend of mine wanted the walls for 2v2 purposes. It makes more sense in that regard because of the possibility of being backstabbed by zerglings.

I can visualize a map where the natural expansion CC's optimal collection spot is just barely conducive to such self-walls. Barely because enough SCVs and it would probably bug out
get stronger play longer

The matrices just happen to be close enough together. The double depot + barracks wall is better in my opinion for the top right.

Top spawns suck for T.
Marines pop on the wrong side.
Easy to exploit.

As you can see, the depot is just there to plug that little gap between rax and cliff that's just barely ling-permeable.

Unfortunately true for any map with "top choke"... Arguably, the best positinal balance on four player maps can be achieved by not allowing complete wallins for any nat or using Circuit-Breakers-type axial symmetry...
