In this VOD Mind goes for an FD but he seems to get CC earlier than classic FD builds. I may be mistaken, but can anyone shed some light on this?
its not a fd he makes 3 marines and he deliberately builds his cc on the high ground because he wants to fake a 2fac when hes really just thinking of expanding. fd would have more marines
"he pretends he is going 2 fac when he is really just expanding"
Isn't that .... an FD? Hahaha. He rolled out with Marines, a Tank, and a Vulture to take his natural, seems pretty FD to me.
@kogeT: I'm aware of Bunker-expand but he didn't make one here, so I thought this was something different.
I acutally don't think this was optimal play from him. He didnt make a bunker as he hasn't found a zealot and knew he got extra time with SCV in his main, so 3 marines was fine. But he could have just made a CC on place.
The mind game here is more of a fast dropship play or 10 gas 2tank/8marine threat rather than 2 fact. That forces protoss to be honest with it's goon count and forces to go observer 1st, that can be furher abused by terran. Also reduces the chances of going double expand due to cross postion in this specific variant.

I think the strongest is get fast 3rd, use sunkens/muta to hold off initial timings, mass muta (12-24), and as you see a terran getting stronger vs mutas (vessel/mass turret), transition into hydra. Use your muta to deny 3rd base.
If you realize terran is going 3/2 200/200 you need swarm / ultra / lurker... add queen if goliath count is low (terran will stop making goliaths when mutas become obsolete)
Hey guys, 1600 P here. My friend told me this forum was helpful for reviewing reps etc.
Since I can't create a thread yet, figured it would be okay for me to post this here: http://bwreplays.com/ql2zn
I have no idea why I lost this game. A few things I noticed:
1. I made the cannons way too early for his hydra bust 2. I never restarted my forge upgrade 3. I got obs too late, but did I really?
Overall it seems silly that he can do so many aggressive build orders (9 pool speed, hydra bust) and still be able to end up taking 5 bases after containing me with fast lurkers.
I scouted his spire and thought it mightve been mutas so I started getting +1 air and more corsairs, but obviously this wasn't the case.
Not sure what I could've done in this situation, pvz really makes me scratch my head sometimes. It's also frustrating knowing how bad my opponent was with the constant 3 larvae idling at his hatches, floating mins and gas early etc...
Longer version: Against hydra threat, you want to balance your cannon-to-hydra count via sair scouting, or a speedlot pump where zealots are both a buffer for cannons and scouting(as in, you'll bust out with 4gate speedlot if they stopped making hydra to go drone)
There's a few ways to approach it after the initial 3 cannons, maybe you cut probes for 4gate speedlot, maybe you keep probing and rush 1 HT into gates or reaver/robo into gates or maybe you bank 4 HTs/energy while probing even more and go for a bigger timing later on.
Either way, if all you have is slow zealots and no sair and no splash damage incoming, you're blind and forced to make a ton of cannons or the zerg will kill you. The zerg can do whatever.
Late initial tech on citadel and/or stargate led to late archives/storm.
By the time you see lair transition, you need to start preparing for robo/goon range + if you see spire making, either building up a sair count or a DA. But by that point you were sitll getting storm etc. By 11 min you were behind on workers and lurker contained while adding a robo with an almost purely zealot force; that's generally game over.

What's the best reaction to a zerg that made 6 lings after an overpool hatch? Assuming you went 13 nex 13 cannon with double probe scout and then see 6 lings hatching.
Cutting more probes for 2nd cannon and blocking passage until it warps in? Not cutting probes, but blocking for longer? If you get 2nd cannon, how does inevitably later core affect your gameplan in the short term (pre 6 min)?
Not cutting probes, getting gate and blocking with probes for a long time? How many, assuming a 3 gap wall? How does having so many probes not mining affect your gameplan in the short term (pre 6 min)?
Do you try to run around zerg's main vs 6 lings, or is it hopeless? I find 2 manageable on tr24, but any more and good zergs generally surrounds the probe too many times to see tech anyway. On worse turn rate it is kinda possible against 6. Is it just me losing probe, or should you not even try vs 6 lings? If you go out and you're blind and can only check exits of their natural/3rd, do you delay 2nd gas or play as usual?
Mostly interested in what pros do in these situations. Had a hard time finding a game like that since all I see is 2 lings open in their games most of the time. From the few games I did see(from zerg's fpv TT), they generally move probe out to slow down lings going out, and then check natural's exit for any incoming hydra or whatever; but how it affects their early build, I couldn't tell much.

I think it's usually enough to build a gateway and block with like 3-4 probes. Unless you're playing at high mmrs I would say that even if they manage to slip 2 lings through it's not a big deal. I think this might be vulnerable to early game ling-allin but I feel like those are rare with overpool. If you are not confident in your scouting, maybe send out early zealots to do some harass and gain vision.
I'm kinda interested in getting into SC:R (used to play iCCup). Just wondering what the battle.net matchmaking times are currently? I don't really wanna play if I have to wait too long for games.
