Changes: Air distance between mains is now longer Each main now has 9 mineral patches The center expo is moved to the sides, to make battle for center more important After the assimilators are destroyed, you can now rebuild them, and even mine gas from them (but depleted, so 2 per trip). If T rebuilds both, only marine-medic-firebat-scv-ghost can move through, and if Z rebuilds both, nothing can pass through still (except ghosts I imagine)
Coaches/players at the testing say the map seems to favor P, since P can strategically build/cancel assims.
One of Battle Royale 2, ‘중원’, ‘황혼의그림자’ (the other two maps at the round 4 map testing that didn't make it, I forget the english translations) will be used in round 5, (replacing Battle Royale )

Basically saying that among the three maps, Battle Royal 2, Central Plains and Shades of Twilight, only 1 will be used for Round 5 (replacing Battle Royal).
@GTR: Nope, none yet

wtf, Central Plains? Wasn't that the map with the vastly different mains/positionally imbalanced? I hope that one doesn't get used.

BR2 (the movie) sucked though, I hope the map won't be as bad . I think using assimilators and geysers in the way this map does is a great idea, but because of the game system it's really hard to balance. Like: If you can't build on them it's a Z favored map... but if you can it's a P favored map. Is there no balanced way to have it done? I guess I'll wait and see how the new map is played out (if it's selected). Hopefully SC2 will have a gazillion doodads and neutral stuff you can activate/deactivate. Although we won't be using them from the get go, it will provide lots of potential in the long run.

Uhm, sorry for the stupid question, but is there a difference in the space taken by the warping assimilator and by a assimlator that has warped?

They already fucked up once by using Battle Royal. They can't damage their rep any more.
USE CENTRAL PLAINS
|
Exciting. I can't wait to see the new map get played on.
It's going to be used in the next round, right?

Battle Royal 2 (cries), Central Plains (^_^) or Shades of Twilight (meh) will replace Battle Royal in Shinhan Bank 2008-2009 Proleague Round 5 according to our understanding.
|
Battle royal 2 would actually be my favorite choice of these, with the changes it might be PvP fest, but meh, there needs to be more toss favored maps atm and it's unlikely to become as bad as the current one is for zvz. The minor leagues already have Stat's tearing it up pvz on the map, etc.

central plains could make for some realy interesting play

I want to see Shades of Twilight, actually.

rebuildable assims might be fun

I love BR and I really wish it were more balanced, but Central Plains looks like a lot of dun to watch, even though it looks pretty near impossible for ZvP.
I REALLY don't want to see shades of twilight in the map pool next round.
Oh and please don't ever mention Alchemist in any thread again, ever. KTHXBAI

Lmao, Alchemist is probably the most disgusting map ever :<
|
Alchemist looks like an awesome map except for the part where all the bases on one side are low ground and the ones on the other side aren't. That and the fact that the map layout makes no sense.
Also, I don't understand the hate for Shades of Twilight. Except for the part where the layout is basically an inverted RotK and that map is meh-okay.

The idea is cool, but as we can see balancing it looks really really hard. I hope that they can get it right this time, but I'm not holding my breath. That being said, at least pvp lasts longer than ZvZ, and with the really narrow chokes and rebuildable assims, the pvp will actually be pretty cool.
Can reaver scarabs make it through the two geysers (no assims)?

i remember it to be awesome tvz, but zvp eh would be wierd now with the FEstyle
|
ZvP on Alchemist nowadays would probably see FE getting trounced and/or severely delayed by speedling backdoors.
Shades of Twilight is their safest bet, but I agree with those who want to see Central Plains in R5. There is more risk of imbalance due to its nonstandard design, but the other options simply don't appeal.

It'll be interesting to see what (if any) changes they've made to Shades of Twilight and Central Plains since we saw them last. PvP on Battle Royale could be awesome, hopefully it'll be at least a little better balanced than the current iteration. I like the concept of the map a lot, but the implementation ended up being just .
P.S. Alchemist is the fugliest map evar.
|
what, it's like everyone forgot how great a reaction battle royal got when it was first announced?
The map has the ability to be very interesting with tweaks.. I hate the current state of the map, but who cares?

Where can I find a picture of Central Plain?

EDIT: Actually, wait.. is that the second movie? I have not seen part 2.. I saw only Battle Royal, back in the day, when it was new.. THAT movie was awesome.

does Battle Royal(e) 2 fix the whole Royal/Royale typo thing?

Coaches/players at the testing say the map seems to favor P, since P can strategically build/cancel assims. Wouldn't Terran be able to do the same by just half-building a Refinery there? Zerg can do it too to an extent by canceling before it's finished.

Glad they're using those maps, I was disappointed when they got rejected

No because the whole point of using Assimilators is that they have a much smaller collision size than the underlying Geysers (thus making it possible for big units to get through). As the OP said, Terran Refineries are bigger and will only allow infantry to get through, and Zerg Extractors are so big that nothing can get through.
I think adding the rebuild factor is really interesting and am really hoping to see BR2 make it now.
|
Is the BR 2.0 better or the BR (3.0) community map better?
|
Does anyone have a picture of BR2?
|
I like the changes. Coaches always sent out Zergs. Let's hope for balance.
|
They should use Central Plains cause it's sweet. I just don't think they should replace a micro map with yet another macro map. There needs to be a good balance.

All of those replacement maps are shit. Just bring back an old, balanced map for the home stretch so we don't have the final weeks spoiled by a shitty map selection.

No, but there are pictures of it (or at least a previous version) online somewhere. Central Plains would definitely bring Flash out of his slump.

I actually agree. Some of the maps right now are not very much fun to play on. God's Garden and Battle Royal should both be replaced by old maps that could have new air breathed into them. Shin Peaks, Blitz, or RoV would both be really, really cool. Outsider and Heartbreak ridge are both producing great games though.

about time, now we can play a map witha cool idea, that isn't as imba
|
how is the air distance any different?
|
On May 22 2009 10:35 anch wrote: how is the air distance any different?
teeny tiny bit longer it seems.
i dont like the assim idea since the space taken is the same as the built thing so toss can just build in case of an attack and def with reavers.

Wow I really like the rebuildable geysers idea, and you can mine from them too. I think this will make Battle Royal 2 very fun to play and adds a whole new dimension to this map, to me it seems like all matchups would be a lot more viable too haha
Replace God's Garden and Battle Royal w/ Battle Royal 2 and Central Plains and I'll be very happy with the result haha

I want Central Planes. Map looks 100% legit.

Because Central Plains (with the tons of minerals and close "expansion" is totally not a macro map.

Hmm? His post sounded like he was saying Central Plains was a macro map and that although it's cool, it's not micro based and he wants a micro map. Or that's what it seemed like to me.
|
Central plains was way to conceptual to work. Similar to Battle Royale in that perspective. Double expansion at the main? You could get second gas without having to make another CC/Nexus. Wouldn't work.
