so I got the digital copy of starcraft and broodwar from the blizzard website last week. it worked fine. today i tried to log on and got the usual new patch message. I clicked ok and auto dowloaded it. When the game tried to apply the patch, I got this error
"patching cannot be completed because the patch archive is corrupt"
told me try reinstalling the game. I did that and then I got this error.
"the patch could not be applied because it could not match the file checksum"
:S
so i went on again and then got the same "patch archive is corrupt error"
i was hoping someone else who has previously experienced this or knows how to fix it can tell me how.
I wasn't sure if this goes in the broodwar or general section. sorry and thanks.

Yeah, it may sound crazy but it was the only thing that worked for me when the last patch failed. I also use the blizz-account SC, I tried everything else last time and that was the only thing that worked.
I'm not going to update until I need to this time.
I updated my SC to 1.16 with chaoslauncher successfully. But, now I HAVE to use chaoslauncher to bnet. If I don't, I will get a message saying it couldn't validate my game version.

LOL i had that error too, but using chaos i successfully updated and now i have the same problem. owell now ill always have apm counter, timer, and lan latency by my side

"The patch could not be applied because the file does not match the file checksum
staredit.exe"
then tells me to reinstall which I already tried. I'm honestly starting to feel like the $15 digital copy was too good to be true and a rip off.
I have the same problem t_t even though im patching with a fresh install...
Patch trough battle.net fails -> Staredit checksum error Patch from 1.15.2 to 1.15.3 fails -> Staredit checksum error (Blizzard Store copy of Starcraft is on 1.15.2)
I got Staredit from someone with the 1.15.3 patch, still fails.
I also have the 'digital copy' and I have fixed 'my problem. I connected to b.net today to find the new 1.16 patch and it would not install. It was missing or could not find SEXP_blahblahblah.MPQ. Ok, so I tried a manual install, Then couldn't find the StarEdit.exe etc. So I then did a search for files and folders on my comp. for just SEXP. And it was in C:\Documents and Settings\MYNAME, So I just copied that right into C:\Program Files\StarCraft where the digital copy had installed. I then loaded B.net again and download the patch and it worked just fine. So I hope this helps some of you. *Cheers*

loaded up bnet
still got
Blizzard BNUpdate v2.133 compiled on Jul 24 2008 Log created at 10:56 pm on 11/25/2008

FUCK
right click the sexp archive and check that it's not on read only.
i also tried moving the SEXP file. and got the same staredit.exe checksum error.
there are also several threads on the battle.net technical support forum. i think all of you guys should go there and make a thread about. if there are lots of people with the same issue, it will catch blizz's attention faster.
Have you tried patching a clean starcraft install? If it doesnt work ask someone that patched it successfully to rar his files (except the big mpq one) in the starcraft root directory and send it. I read somewhere in the main patch thread which files exactly gets changed, you can find out easly by sorting them by modified date.

ok guys potential solution found. I'll let slade from the battle.net forums take it from here
warning I have not tried this solution yet but am in the process of doing so. dont get your hopes up too high
I was having the same problem all of you are now. My digital install of Starcraft was unable to patch from 1.15 (or 1.04 after a reinstall) to 1.16.
Well, I was able to solve this problem.
I had an old (1.15 I believe) copy of Starcraft installed (from actual CDs, not a digital install) on one of my other hard drives. After about an hour of trouble shooting, I was able to get my DIGITAL install that I use to play to patch to 1.16.
I originally just copied my entire install folder over to the digital one and ran the patch. This worked. Unfortunately, there are 700mb+ worth of files in there and I couldn't easily send that to a friend who was also having the problem.
So.... I checked them all. File by file. Until I was able to find the one that resulted in the patch working.
Turns out it is "BrooDat.mpq". So, I copied the "BrooDat.mpq" file (and ONLY that file) from my unpatched CD-version of Starcraft over to my Digital install directory and then ran the BW-116.exe file from www.blizzard.com/patches. It patched right up to 1.16 without a hitch and I was able to log on to Battle.net.
Now, this was from a FRESH digital install, since I couldn't manually patch myself up to 1.15 or anything.
I have taken the liberty of uploading my BrooDat.mpq file to MegaUpload. I fully understand that you guys will, and SHOULD be suspect of some guy on the internet posting his magical fix for you to try. That's fine. Don't try it if you don't want to.
But do know that this WILL work. It has worked for both me and my friend.
If a blizzard rep sees this and wants to download the file and host it somewhere on the blizzard website, that would be excellent as well. You've got a LOT of very unhappy Digital SC fans and I have found the fix.
If you guys are looking to do another patch so it works simply through Bnet, your answers lie in BrooDat.mpq as to why it doesnt work.

EDIT
SOLUTION WORKS.
Download the broodat.mpq file from [url blocked].
once downloaded extract it. go to your starcraft directory i.e. C:\program files\starcraft and look for broodat.mpq. this is the original file. rename it to something like broodat.mpq2. just so you still have the original and copy and paste the downloaded one into your starcraft directory. download the 1.16 patch from http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/broodwar/patches/ and run it and it should work because it worked for me.
I'm hoping someone can upload the mpq file to a more secure place because it might not last forever on megaupload and people might need it for the next patch
Woah didn't realize there were so many problems. I was lucky enough to have mine update just fine.
However it's really annoying that any message you send in bnet channel whether it be starting with "or" "ur" or anything "xr" does the /r command..... (although I do like the /r command but it shoudl only be /r that triggers it!) That's a definite bug and although I've kinda gotten used to it, it's a bit annoying. Not worth another patch though because then iccup, chaoslauncher, etc. have to re-do all their stuff too.

it should. I updated from the 1.15.2 version.
are you getting the staredit.exe checksum error?
thats what you need to be getting to for the solution to work.
so if your getting the SEXP error, you will need to find the file and paste it into your broodwar directory.
you can find it by going to windows search which is in the start menu and typing it in.
Praise jesus . . . err moni!. Really though Blizzard should be beet red with embarrassment right now. THey break everything with their fucking patches that don't even really fix antying, and don't even patch correctly with their digital download, and a single fucking student can show their whole crew up. Its pitiful
