I was thinking it might be fun to have one of the matches in each TL Attack be played on a map made by some member of the TL community. Could be interesting to see how people play on a map they have never seen before and it would get more people involved in the event. It could also offer for something interesting for the commentators and the pro to discuss perhaps.
I hope this is in the right section and posted properly and such. Sorry in advance if not... Thanks to everyone for the awesome TL Attck events!

I think this is a really good idea. We'll talk about it. Glad you are enjoying the events.

I like this idea a lot. Is there still an active map-making community, on TL or otherwise? Not poking fun or anything, I honestly don't know.

i just played (and lost T_T) an hour long 2v2 on faoi. great map!

i don't think this is a good idea. i think the less short, unspectacular games we get due to people walling incorrectly or blocking their nat with cannons, the better
|
good idea, but not for tl attack. theres a difference between an interesting game on a known map and dicking around on an unknown map.

I think this is perfect for TL attack. You could give them a couple minutes to look at the map, though, so they can at least see the basic features of it. Or show it the the challenger ahead of time, and only give the pro a few minutes to look at it.

That's actually a pretty cool idea, would be fun to watch the pro flounder as the joe exploits an unknown cannon placement behind his workers that he can't do shit about.

I think this could use a poll. Put it to a vote, see what the viewers want to see. I personally would prefer if they stuck to maps from the star leagues and a few old classics (LT, Requiem, etc). But if the majority want to see matches on TL made maps that's fine too.
That said, if we can get our hands on the new maps that were just announced those might be interesting.

Do you really think it will be interesting to watch them bumble around on maps they don't know?

I'm talking about the pro. It would be pretty silly to force them to play maps they don't know, in my eyes.

I watch TL.attack mostly because I can see player that is better than I ever can even hope to be play a game. I think the commentary is a lot of fun, the newb-bashing that happens is also fun, but my main reason to watch is to see the 'pro' defeat a lesser player with a weird strategy, beautiful micro or what not.
I think that this idea would take away from that.

I think it could be interesting to have a TL exclusive map that you use every episode. It would be new to everyone, but if you release it ahead of time, it gives everyone a chance to look at it.
I dunno if some of the pro's will ever have a chance to see it, but so far, we've had 3 TL regulars guest star on TL Attack, and I'm sure if TL released a new map, those 3 would know about the map instantly.
It might screw over the guests that don't frequent TL and have no clue what the map is though. But I think it's a pretty interesting idea

This is a bad idea beacuse its not what we watch TL.net attack for. We don't want to see a pro player wander around a map with no clue instead of showing good micro/macro or good fights and creative play.

In my opinion it's better than forcing them to toy around playing offrace. Many good players can adapt to a map almost instantly. Don't you remember the first Blizzcon? I remember they interviewed Nal_rA or Nada and they say they didn't play the maps in advance, yet still came up with very interesting strategies.
I'm not saying that all maps should be different from the usual ones, but one fanmade or oldschool map each TL-Attack wouldn't hurt.

i've always wanted to make a map, maybe now i ha an excuse to waste a couple of hours? i have a couple of (cool) ideas. so if someone know the editor by heart and wants to polish my diamond map, please give me a PM.
but if chill think its a bad idea......

I don't think it would lead instantly to bumbling. It would require a change in strategy, much more scouting and scouting of a different type. I've always thought that knowing the entire map before hand took something away from the game, while of course adding other things.

We're not going to make the pros offrace anymore as we're moving TL Attack towards a high-quality-games goal. In keeping with that theme, I doubt we would use community maps, but I guess if there's a demand for it anything's possible.
|
No love for the mapping community lol.
Personally, I think games on unfamiliar maps are a lot more interesting and show who the better player is more. Someone might have great mechanics on a map because they've played it 5 million times, but on a new map strategy and decision making is higher valued, with the added suspense of not knowing exactly whether it's the best move because it hasn't been played much.
But the only people who agree are people who actually make maps, so I guess there's no point in preaching

I'd like to share with you my map I made recently. It's not my first one, but I think it's quite playable. Please feel free to give me your opinion.

I think that this is a wonderful idea. It would be great fun to see games played on TL content, so to speak. What better way to profile teamliquid even further than to put good use to maps made by people like konadora?
While I can understand see the point of not using user-made maps in a tournament, I still think that it could lead to some interesting games.
