Future generations, or perhaps future alien visitors will no doubt wonder why everyone stopped playing simultaneously and resumed doing so decades later

Everyone in programming knows - dates are tricky. Jokes aside i wonder what happened to their database or who pushed this piece of magical code to store the dates. We are good with season resets only, no need to add new features

This was genuinely the biggest source of frustration and mystery to me retraining into that field. Non-IT folks don’t believe me!

2106. Probably doesn't actually use a 32-bit value to store the date because it's set to June the 2nd, but for some reason the lower bytes got set to 0xFF.

its 2019. Siege Tanks have run amok!

i think the original Blade Runner took place in 2019.

I wonder why so many "near future" type universes decided upon 2019?

Presumably that's actually 0xFFFFFFFF using American date formatting combined with a timezone that's west of UTC-7.

Everything can be 'tricky'. Any bog standard FOR loop can be tricky. IT personnel propagandize these types of issues to increase their perceived competence while lazing around behind a help desk.

Blizzard botched something basic.
Amongst software engineers and computer scientists database programming is considered easier than stuff like AI programming, real time programming and actuarial valuation tool programming. That's just off the top of my head. I can prolly name another 50.

Again , Blizzard botched something basic. Please, do not let them off the hook by claiming this stuff is difficult.

This is another L for the 'Games As A Service' paradigm. Nothing beats local/couch competitive game play.

Those are all difficult things that people assume are difficult and hey, are difficult.

Dates are something people assume are trivial and are occasionally a pain in the arse. Tricky/finnicky, not tremendously difficult no, they’re different things. Nobody is going ‘aw give the intern a break, dates are really hard!’ or whatever.

Maintaining and making video games is getting easier, not harder. The more Blizzard botches simple stuff like this the faster people will move on to any one of the 87 bazillion new games released on Steam this month.

There are all kinds of new RTS games coming. I'm sure the makers of these games will benefit from stuff like this.

Way too intense for such a minor bug, man. These things crop up all the time, and this would be a very low priority issue for any developer as it doesn't affect gameplay.

nah, Blizzard markets itself to hundreds of millions of people vying for billions of dollars. they set expectations high with their own marketing efforts. Blizzard is screwing up, a lot.

Blizzard deserves credit for being transparent about how little resources are on the game though.
