New Ladder Map Pool Update and Replay Save Policy Change – February 5, 2024

Greetings Cerebrates, Commanders, and Executors,

We’ve updated the Ladder map pool today as below.

(2) Blitz Y 1.0

(2) Neo Dark Origin 2.1

(3) Apocalypse_1.4

(4) Citadel1.0

(4) Fighting_Spirit_1.3

(4) Radeon 1.0

(4) Retro 1.2

(4) TroySE2.0

(4) Vermeer SE_2.1

Along with the Ladder map pool update, we will be changing the replay save policy.

Starting March 1st, PT, replays saved on cloud will be removed after 30 days. Replays saved on your local hard drive will not be affected. If you would like to keep your replays currently saved on cloud, we recommend to download them before March 1st, PT.

Seems like they are sticking with the formula ASL maps + FS + Vermeer. It's quite okay but could be improved a little bit by changing Vermeer Polypoid. We already have Vermeer remake in Radeon already. Well at least it means somebody is now working at Blizzard for SC.

I never ban any maps on ladder. I love different maps, I can't understand why people just only play on 1-2 boring maps like FS 1.3 or Poly 1.65

You can veto some maps, but you can't veto your skill. You have your rank, if you have 7-9 vetoes, you still stay your rank.

the more interesting/important thing IMO is the cloud replays only lasting 30 days.
i guess this is to get around the API loophole that devs have been using to access ladder games?

That "loophole" could simply be closed with minimal effort and without affecting past cloud replays.
I'm pretty sure this is about cost saving. Blizzard doesn't seem to have use of old replays, and they simply don't want to pay for the cloud storage.

5 months seems like the perfect lenght to me. Maybe even 6. Two seasons a year basically.

9 maps instead of 7 is also good and I hope they will keep doing seasons this way.

So why don't you ban Fighting Spirit, that's the only map I had banned last season

This is great.

Just a small detail: we could have used Fighting Spirit 1.4, which makes use of the more balanced L-shaped minerals for left side spawns. Other than that, it is identical to FS1.3. The map was already played in a few foreign tournaments.

well, they only changed it because they were asked to. As per usual. They don't do anything on their own accord.
