I bet thats very few that would actually do that.

he did disappear not long after that, so who knows.

Carpel tunnel probably the biggest barrier to BW's longevity. Probably more so that blizzy themselves, programmer scene fading, prominent players retiring or a major scandal - well aside from a new RTS game ushering in the golden age of RTS again. One can hope, yes?

The future looks very healthy. Extremely important we have MCU now, which is essentially a long-overdue apprenticeship program. The fact that it's extremely popular is literally a life-saver for the long-term scene.
Brood War is a near-perfect game that will never die. I feel very lucky that my two favorite games, and the only two games I have even a passing interest in, are nearly perfect with die-hard scenes and constantly-advancing meta. There are many things wrong with the world, but as long as I have Brood War and Melee, I am quite content.

Hi,Chinese BW players have been growing since it was released in 2018(CN version).
I remember there were only a few hundred people in the beginning. But now 2022,There can often be 4 or 5 thousand players online on weekends.

That's true, the only BroodWar player I met in the last 15 years here in Brazil was a peruvian.

in Dominican Republic there is a small community like 30 players or so.

developer promised 2v2 and failed. I don't like when ppl talk and don't do. don't fkn promise if you can't make it happen. The future is we are going to get old and die. im almost 40 and i started this game at 15 years old. another 10-20 years im not sure if i will be alive after that, apart of that the covid control and 5G , War, many of us could be dead within 5 years.

People were saying Brood War was dying when I first started playing in 2009. The community impressed me at the time with its resilience. Now, as a returning player, I’m impressed by the community again. I don’t think we need to be too concerned for the next little while.

If you want more players get ur friends and family to play.
Many people tell me "none of my friends play or like BW".. To that I say, try harder or find new friends AND family!
The global human population will reach 8.0 billion in mid-November 2022. So don't tell me there are no ppl who could be playing...
^_._^
LUCKY_NOOB how have you been! I don’t know if you remember me but we used to play FFAs back in the day.

i mean people were even saying it was dying out in 2005-2006 so. People often lean toward the dramatic.

Yeah even me with on and off following /playing the game I will return to BW sooner or later. Granted, maybe much less than what we used to have especially during its peak but I'm sure somewhere out there, there will be still people playing a game of BW at any given time.
Kinda like Doom or Cs 1.6 really, any defining era game will always stands the test of time.

is there any working alternative to iccup nowadays?

I had a dream that blizzard patched unit pathing (more often cycle of finding an optimal path), fixed units getting stuck at some frames, reavers not firing… just as an option to players.
