Hey everyone, just wanted to share some of our ideas for L.A. LAN 3 and the possibilities of doing an event in Europe.
L.A. LAN 3 Considering everything going on at this time, we can't give a hard confirm on when this will be, but August is the month we have in mind. We are hoping to be able to officially announce this event in June.
In addition, we are planning to add an open qualifier to cover travel expenses for one player. It's undecided if this will be region restricted. With the possibilities of doing a LAN event in Europe being so uncertain, the idea of adding the qualifier was to provide an easier opportunity for a player in Europe to attend.
EU LAN This is being seriously considered internally. If we are able to finalize a venue in September, then an event in Q4 is definitely possible.
A venue in Warsaw was recommended, but the format may have to change and a sign-up cap added to make it work. If we had to go this route, would you be ok with a first come, first serve signup?
If there are any venues/locations you think might work, please share! I'd like to keep the same format as L.A. LAN if possible, but we'll work with what we can.
I know that the coronavirus/Covid-19 could delay all of these estimated dates, but what I can say for sure at least is that L.A. LAN 3 is a YES, a qualifier to cover travel expenses is a 95% YES, and a LAN event in Europe is a we want to.
Thanks again for your support of the previous L.A. LAN events and the ASL.
I've tried to get a LAN going in Stockholm, Sweden. But due to the Corona situation it got cancelled. But Inferno online in Stockholm is one of the biggest gaming centers in the world and probably most high tech as well.
So if you interested in hosting in sweden i can help out. I got a good contact at Inferno Online.
All of these sound fantastic! I hope you can arrange the tourneys! Also I agree with M3t4PhYzX regarding first come first serve is not the best. There must be some bigger "place" where a BW LAN could happen (if that is an issue I mean). But maybe we are too optimistic anyways, I don't know. GL!

Last time you couldn't reach an agreement with them for the Stockholm LAN. That doesn't give off the most positive vibe towards them imo.

Ziggy suggested this place and we're definitely considering it!

This place looks interesting. One concern we had with New Meta Bar is the limited number of PCs.

I got a new contact when iRk was suppose to just have our own gathering. This guy is more available and flexible when it comes to arranging an event and also giving discounts for large groups.

Oh yes, its a gamer's wet dream :D and Take is a cool guy. Probably easy to organize and he knows BW. Also he casted BW in 2009 or so.. I am sure he would be happy to host a BW event :D

Yes, pretty much. The PC Cafe opened back up last month, and we're still planning to go for another L.A. LAN with a European qualifier, but we are just playing things by ear right now.

Thanks for all of your hard work, I can't wait till the next LA LAN, this time I will be going for sure, i'll make sure I have off of work this time lol
For a LAN in europe I have myself been thinking about this location: https://www.esportsgamearena.nl/ (homepage seems to be only in Dutch). I know there has already been SC2-events there (Dutch Starcraft League finals if I´m not mistaken), and it´s all in all a super cool place. The owner also happens to be a collegue of mine ^^.
Sweden is being kept open, its not a total lockdown here so its a bit more organizer friendly if youre still looking for a venue, just a good note to keep in mind .

I have my travel fund set aside so that I can participate in the next lan when it's announced!

Sounds good to me, never visited Netherlands :D ... Never got the chance to attend a pre remastered LAN so I'd do everything I could to go!
Hello, I know it's been several months and the world is still in a very strange state but just curious if this event will still happen at some point? I'd love to come if so and have some friends who are interested too. If so, is there a Discord I can join or some social media I can follow for updates?
I don't know how LA LAN would even be a possibility with the insanely high rise of Corona cases here in SoCal, especially in LA county.... always praying for this madness to stop though.
I guess all comes down to the effectiveness of the vaccines, at what rate we reach something of a general worldwide immunity. Maybe by summer a lot of nations will be at a reasonable immunity. Lan in august?
At the moment, it is unwise to host any kind of LAN event. Maybe Afreeca could try to host a California online tournament where California residents could compete against each other to fill the void.
However, until coronavirus vaccine is more widely distributed to the general public, I doubt Afreeca would ever want to expose themselves to the massive risk of trying to host any event. At present, the vaccines are a 2-dose vaccine that is taken 1 month apart. Seeing as how slow the US is getting the vaccine out right now, by the time it reaches our age group, it could be well past March/April by the time we are getting our first round of vaccines. Then, the public would still need to quarantine to ensure the vaccine is working properly and the case rate plummets before outdoor gatherings are allowed. That would probably take another month after the nation gets their 2nd round of doses.
At earliest under the most optimistic standards, Afreeca can look at this coming July/August as the time to plan the next LAN. But I think they'll definitely hold off until other larger events like people going back to sporting events/music festivals start to open up before they follow suit and host a LAN.
I think any sensible person understands that this event won't happen until vaccinations are available for the general public. My question is simply if this event is still planned to happen at some point, or if the pandemic has forced them to cancel it and they used the funding for something else, and if there's some kind of social media I can follow for updates for when it's safe to host events again and they start planning it.
