I have played this game many years and understand the clumsiness of units.
But lately i have had it happen on a few occasions where.
A) I will be microing my dragoons in my base and one will just stop randomly in the middle of nowhere with no obstructions. To the point where i have to manually click it and it wont even move until i issue multiple commands.
B) Zealots reacting in the exact same manner. Where i will be in the middle of the map, and one out of the group will just stop moving until i move it individually with multiple move commands...
I experienced this, and I gave them a blanket. They needed more blankets. And then less blankets.
However, on a real note, I only experienced this so far with dragoons as in the past. Not with zealots yet, or that I can remember. Just hit HOLD POSITION on a frozen unit to unfreeze it though.
Units will freeze when you manually target another unit but very rarely when you attack-move. At least this is what I have experienced. Happens most often with marines and dragoons.
Yep. I've played bw since 05 and i main protoss. This could happen before the hd release, but now it happens a lot more, and in open areas. It's super annoying early against Terran, where every dragoon makes a difference =/. I assume this would be hard to "fix".
welcome to broodwar! the game where you have to hold your units hands or else they will either wander off and go for a stroll instead of going down the ramp, or they will just freeze and not want to do anything.

i'm A rank on iccup and have 11 years of experience, but i had no idea. Thanks for the tip bro!
From what I've seen freezing often happens when you are targeting a unit and then are re positioned out of its range. That's 2 of the factors that are part of causing a freeze but I don't know what the third is that makes it actually freeze.
So in other words... Like the game i just lost. Using dragoons against zealots..... But then all your dragoons cant move.
Trying to upload the replay... Cant find the file.
Quick recap. I was fighting about 10 zealots with 8 dragoons. On the course of retreating i attempt to micro the whole way back to base. My dragoons stopped. THREE times. Lost them all before reaching my nat. GG

Just out of curiosity how do you micro your dragons? I've hand units freeze before both zealot and dragoon and it's usually when I target click a specific unit. It's pretty rare though. However when microing dragoon vs zealot I always right click away then hold position when they are far enough to shoot but not be hit then repeat. I found when doing this you will never experience freeze.

Dragoon micro is much more efficient by right clicking away hold position and they will shoot then right click away and repeat. If they are speedless zeals you won't even get touched. 8 dragoon can beat many speedless zeal. With speed it's harder but the same technique is always best.
Something is not right. I play the game for years, and I don't remember units not shooting when enemies right at front. Even at the campaign I had valkyries right up enemies cannons and they didn't do anything.

Agree with this. I actually posted a comment about it here on TL on some thread where I said the same when 1.18 came out.
Actually I dont feel the dragoons being any worse than before and I never took a break from BW, but I did notice it too with the zealot since SC R and it s a bit weird.
For both though I feel in ladder game it s a bit more laggy (and the mouse too) so that could explain what you re seeing (def a problem with muta micro). But if I just play for fun against a CPU to test a BO, or in the campaign I havent seen it. (yet, this is not a large sample of games)
I had a horrible reaver game this week, felt soo odd compared to old bw reavers. Unload from shuttle, tell to hit probes, and it does nothing.. one part I was defending from his attack while my reavers were on the ramp and it just refused to fire even right below the ramp; I actually had to check if there was scarabs on him (there was 4) because I didnt know what the issue was.. So weird.
Yep, came back to the game after 10 years and I can't remember dragoons acting up as often as they do now. I've lost my advantage several times (especially against terrans) because of this.
