So with BW being revitalized, I am looking for a source of current build orders/strategy. Anyone have good recommendations? I'll probably either play Z or T, if that helps at all.

Been many years since I played BW even somewhat seriously, so I have forgotten pretty much all builds...

Ah, of course, liquipedia. Didn't know if that was current for BW. I know it was often a bit out of date with SC2.

liquipedia is crap. im sorry but it's crap at the moment. i would do a search query in the bw strat section. i've asked so many questions on here and i am sure you will find great and a bit more indepth stuff.

It's a great starting point for sure. Grab a build order and learn the starting stages. Watching reps and on maps that feature similar build orders will help a ton too. In regards to strategy it's such a broad subject I suggest what was written in the previous sentence, watching tons of reps on the same map until you understand what the player of you race was going for. And also, hit up Brood War strategy forum with all your questions as it is actually quite active.

But it explains the basics for each match up, considering he didn't play for years i don´t think its "crap".
You have to start somewhere and build orders even have annotations/supply count etc next to it.

I second that liquipedia is bad atm, however there's no alternative. Best you can do is go to zimp's replay thread and download some pro reps for the race you want. Most games have standard BOs anyways (at least if they're on FS), so you can watch, write it down and learn

I agree that liquipedia is bad atm, however there is this pretty section on the ride side of the website presenting all kinds of Brood War Korean progamers. In my opinion it is the best learning place right now.
Be the change you want to see in the world.

For the people saying Liquipedia is crap: what is wrong with it, and how would you go about fixing it?

I'm curious because as a person who has played and watched the game for a long time, I think it is a great place to pick up some optimized build orders. Some pages are a little minimal or lacking in application/theory of build selection, or are "outdated" in the sense that those builds are less popular nowadays without that being indicated on the page. I agree with that. But to a newcomer, doing a good Siege Expand is accessible because of Liquipedia, despite it perhaps being a little less "modern" or "optimal" than an FD.

People slinging their slime at Liquipedia can either be a part of the problem or a part of the solution. The choice is yours.

You only need three things to learn build orders:

1) Replays - this thread has pro and semi-pro games from the last few years of the Kespa era as well as high level amateur replays from the SOSPA era.

2) Afreeca FPVODS - a vod archive of recent ladder games and sponsored matches between ex-pros streamed on Afreeca for free!

3) A notepad + pen.

Besides that, like people said, use the simple questions thread for questions on why you lost and perhaps join some of the lower level leagues like CPL or Rookie league (see BW tours section).

The solution to a bad Liquipedia is to just edit it yourself lol. You'd have to do some research and put in some time but it's can be done. But you have to confidently know your stuff.

Another great thing to do to learn build orders is to look at pro streams and write down what they do. Take into account what are adaptations and what is the actual build. But if you follow Flashs openings in Tvz and TvP for example you will realize you are setting yourself up for an inherent advantage over any player who is not doing an efficient build against you.

Some ideas for some basic builds you can look into

I think learning 5rax in Tvz is important
Also learning how to set up for a mech switch, maybe doing a 4rax +1 weapons
2 port Wraiths tvz
Fantasy build tvz (1 fact 1 starport into mech, building 4 vults and then into dropship, expand while you harass, defend with mines)

Zerg 9pool, overpool, 12 hatch, etc.
3 hatch spire into hydras zvt
3 hatch lurkers zvt
2 hatch spire aggressive play

5hatch spire against traditional bisubuild zvp
Don't know too much zvp

TvP has a lot of openings
2 fact
FD push
Fast expand 14cc (really greedy)
1% of games you can go deep6 to keep things fresh lol
Siege expand
There are plenty more...

One thing I'd like to add into consideration with the post above: be realistic when selecting build orders.

Just because Flash can get away with a 14cc vs. A pool - first Zerg, you may not. Because you are not Flash. Try to use critical thinking or the search function on TL to determine what builds suit your playstyle and skill level.

I think it is Liquipedia is slightly outdated :/ . Try to watch some FPStreams here: https://bwstreams.appspot.com/ or recordings here: http://korhal.info.pl/#/korhal and you will see the current meta. Try to steal some BOs :D

There are more MODERN build orders I agree but for brand new players who will be vs other brand new players, this is a great jumping off location.
So wait? I'm bad? =(
