This is definitely not true (bolded part).

Eh I can understand it. Any game that only has custom ladders can be intimidating as heck. Having a BW HD with auto matchmaking would be a lot more friendly for new players. Not to mention getting it to run at all can be a nightmare

Any newcomer can easily find D rank (and below) games on iccup, i've been playing on iccup for the past 4-5 months..
There's always 200-300 players online, even more on the weekends.

I mean let's be real, matchmaking alone makes a huge difference. You might be ok with opening lobbies and waiting, etc but simply pressign that button and getting a somewhat fair match is simply superior

D rank is NOT synonymous with newcomers.

I don't really understand what you're trying to argue about, whenever i host a D rank game (on a smurf) it takes 10 secs before someone joins. If someone drops down to D- he's also gonna find games.
Have you actually played on iccup? The hard part is finding high ranked games, not low ranked games.

bnet logged around 200k BW players simultaneously in early 2000s around peak time or was it even 250kT_T and most of these were not even close to D rank level that was healthy now we're most likely never getting this again save for a new great game, but ICCup being difficult to find and difficult to play on doesnt help at all, the migration of the core player base to private servers works in korea because people are close enough to each other that someone can tell you about fish but in the west the population density of BW is too low for a lot of people to be aware of ICCup if they want to join in I think

The issue isn't how fast your smurf is going to find games, its that if there are no newcomers incoming, they're not going to find someone at their skill level, someone completely new to the game.
Do you think if you sat someone who is completely new to BW to do their first game on ICCUP, they're going to find someone with comparable experience and skill?
It's way more likely they'll get crushed by someone's smurf of someone bored because they can't find games at a high rank. That's not going to be a good experience for them.

New players can play on gameranger, fairly easy to get a beginner game there. But then again, they have to know it exists in the first place.
P.s.. So very excited, please bring us the gift we want Santa!

There's a skewed perception by people that have been high ranked for many years that it's easy to find low rank games. It isn't. If you're a newcomer even D- will crush you. You basically have to play E ranks only. Also, finding true D-/D ranks is not as trivial. The idea that the majority of the server is D rank comes from the rank being awarded to everyone at the start, most of those being players that have no interest in 1v1 to begin with. Every time I say the rank system is broken there's the same users saying that it's fine and smurfs are not a problem, who all happen to just be B or above, coincidentally. I guarantee a guy that's been a B rank for over 5 years can't tell the difference in skill between D and D+, which is huge

4,5 more hours to go. I think I can't wait that long and gonna pass out. I really hope they will announce something after all. Also Jaedong fighting!

If you are truly new, you have probably around the same lack of players and finding good games as when you are A or higher. You can just take a look at the last page of the ladder ranking on ICCUP: http://iccup.com/en/starcraft/ladder/1x1/page82.html . Around 50 people are really new, but there are like 500 accounts who are d- currently, so they should not have that much problems to find games. Question is, how big is the gap in those regions?
