The sc2 engine simply doesn't cut it. I played sc2bw when it was a popular sc2 mod, and certain game mechanics, like control group movement, kiting with fast units, spider mine AI, reaver scarabs, the way siege tanks decide what to shoot at, how dropships load/unload, how medics decide to heal... EVERYTHING was wrong. It was still more fun to play than sc2, but the underlying game engine needs to be the original starcraft engine for BWHD to work.

you dont have to make the game itself in the sc2 engine, just the interface. they could make it like shieldbattery, but with the sc2 interface as the base instead of a web client. it makes a lot of sense to me. it unifies both starcraft games under a single client and modernises the bw client, without sacrificing anything at all in the gameplay. the fact that blizzard changed the SC2 lobby recently without mentioning it in any patch note or community feedback also leans me in this direction, but maybe i just missed them talking about that.

I hope they don't remove it too, but Blizzard has a financial interest in doing so, and seeing how it would be on Battle.net 2.0 I'm not too confident it will stay. But it's all just speculation; we'll know in a few hours (assuming it's announced at all

Exactly my thoughts. Ideally BWHD would be implented as Prequel into the SC2 Trilogy, simply selectable in the options where you can set the ExpansionLevel.

I still say: BW was never good or balanced because of all these limitations, glitches, bugs and whatnot, but despite of them. After each patch with some balance changes players found ways to adapt their playstyles, so would they if the field of vision would change, multiple buildings could be selected or workers go automine. Just over time they would adapt and new openings, new strategies and a new metagame would establish. All the players had to do is give it a try.

BW is awesome because of its well designed units and unit interactions, spells, costs & buildtimes and key mechanics of the damage and map system. That is what it makes so much better than SC2. It's more fun to play with these units and mechanics and it is more fun to watch. If that is transferred over into the SC2 engine as close as possible (aka a lot better than SC2BW or StarBow could ever do it), for me everything is fine.

But no matter how they do it, I will definitely buy it, just to thank Blizz for BW (once again). I played BW very very intensely for more than 10 years, it was by far the most loved and enjoyed game of my life and I still believe it is the best designed game ever released. I am very confident it could perform extremely well even in new shoes if they just keep in mind why playing BW was so much fun. It was not because you could only select 1 building at a time, thats for sure.
