A nice thought but don't hold your breath.
OGN is already doing 2-3 nights of LoL LCK and 2 nights of Overwatch APEX every week. They dont have the time or space to add another regular event to their busy calendar. An occasional one-night only BW event, sure. But another major tournament like an OSL? Not likely anytime soon.
If OGN does do a tournament series, I hope they continue under a different banner than "OSL" just to drive the point home that it's a completely different scene now. I'm sure OGN's marketing department would disagree though. Tving was a good end to a great era.
On the other hand, what's the point in doing a one-off Brood War event? Surely it can't generate THAT much revenue to be worthwhile... Don't you think they're just testing the waters before actually deciding whether they can fit another tournament into their regular timetable or not?
That would be the dream. Also the BW tournament doesn't have to be on prime time necessarily right? Not sure what's on OGN's schedule during the day, etc but that seems like a potential solution to me
But another major tournament like an OSL? Not likely anytime soon.
Why is that?
I think his argument is that their schedule is jam packed with stuff, where would they fit it in their schedule
Broodwar is still very popular in S.Korea. I don't know the details, but I don't know if OGN can without Blizzard suing them again. Wasn't it Blizzard who shut down the professional starcraft?

It's probably significantly less expensive than hosting a full blown league. They've broadcasted some one-off showmatches since the death of OSL.

It being popular doesnt dispute the initial point, where do they have time to hold such a tournament?
OGN and Blizzard aren't openly hostile anymore. OGN has broadcasted a KT showmatch, as well as a few seasons of Sonic/Sbenu Starcraft league. http://wcs.battle.net/sc2/en/articles/wcs-2014-announced also mentioned they've has rights to host Starcraft 1 competitions.

No other game will ever be as popular as BW. Not LoL or whatever game OGN is broadcasting in their schedule. OGN would set aside any other game for Starcraft if they could without restraints. But those legal battles with Blizzard must have taken their toll on them and OGN doesn't want to go through that again despite now having rights.
I think Blizzard handled the transition from BW to Starcraft 2 very poorly.

I dont sadly, but full OSLs are available in torrent form if there are still seeders. Might also be available on youtube or something

Isn't the original producer for OSL still at that Chinese company? I was under the assumption that some of the production talent behind OSL had moved on to other companies, while others stayed on and got engrossed by LoL.

LOL is way more popular in several metrics.
Also, I dont think that adds up. "It took its toll" from 6 years ago but they've broadcasted other BW content including several seasons of the SSL?
Hoping for GARIMTO, Reach, Nal_rA, or PuSan[S.G] for the protoss side.
YellOw was my old favorite... good to see him interested Despite him falling off a bit, he still was super super good. Would be cool to see July, ChoJJa, or OgOgO in there as well
I also was around for XellOs's time of dominance, so he definitely deserves it. TheMarine, Boxer, NaDa, iloveoov, etc would all be cool as well.
Maybe next time around we will see some more faces? Even if this is just a one-off as people have stated, it will be awesome!

I'm not sure I'll ever put July in the category of old progamers, for all I know he is just waiting for the OSLs to start again to grab another one when nobody expects him to do so.

Haha, I get what you're saying. I suppose he's still playing through all this into SC2 etc, so still in the mindset.
Still, I feel he really was a powerhouse back in the early to mid 2000's, and was dominating a lot of people. That's over 10 years ago now, so if he was 18, 19 years old he's now nearly 30. Kinda makes him an old progamer to me, but to each his own

LoL is just as popular bw proleague? No way. BW proleague was a national past time in Korea, you had parents playing Starcraft. It's not just the lawsuits but all the gaming networks in S.Korea, all the pro players, and sponsors were forced to switch to Starcraft 2 I believe. Yeah it took it's toll on OGN. But look how that turned out Flash, Jaedong, Bisu, and many former BW progamers all went back to BW eventually. Stupid for Blizzard to think that SC2 can be just like BW proleague, it couldn't for obvious reasons.

Well how do you know are you part of OGN? They're hosting other leagues because all the sponsors and players left broodwar back in 2012, but now bw is now making a resurgence seeing the failure of SC2. Neither MBC and OGN wanted to end bw proleague, more likely they were forced too. I don't know remember all the details regarding the lawsuits, I remember hearing about Blizzard suing OGN and MBC for not broadcasting SC2. But my belief is Blizzard was responsible for shutting down the professional bw scene in Korea.
My initial question to Chris_Havoc was to get more info on the legal issues regarding if there was any legal road blocks that prevented OGN from broadcasting another OSL

An LCK that could be pulled from them by Riot because they want to control the whole of the Korean scene (already part of the reason why SPOtv has part of the LCK cycle.) instead of relying on broadcasters. They can do a non-OSL BW event once a week if they want to without killing their scheduling, and if the LCK withdrawal does happen, they have the platform to push BW on TV again.
oov!? Holy crap. He's one of my favorite progamers of all time, haven't seen him play even showmatches since he became a coach and later retired. Xellos as well. That lineup is better than anything I've seen recently... I'm excited. Only missing now is the original OGN caster Um Jae-kyung aka 'Overlord'
Sad about oov but nada is pretty sick too, other than him and nal_ra I'm not too excited about the old pros in this. But the split between current and old pros is pretty interesting, it being 3-2 means that you can't realistically just rely on the better players to win and send Grandpa to die they will be key in winning this event.
Heh, I was watching GoRush's stream last week. He was getting coached by EffOrt, probably partly to prep for this. The only one I've never heard of before is clouD.
Ah cmon JD :/ I get that he has health problems but nobody expects him to grind games before that event tbh. Him being part of it would simply help the whole event because he is quite popular.

I think it's not health problem.
JD has a plan to go trip in march.
Well personally i think anything which helps the scene is good. JD doing that instead of another zerg would be a plus. Not saying i am disappointed but depending on what kind of trip it is he surely could do it another time as well :/

Could've potentially booked the flight and such already. Pretty costly to rebook etc...
He like refused to play because of the operating system of the machine he was going to have to use.
He refused to play because they changed operating system at the last moment. From what i know i think he had a full right to make such decision. To blame are the organizers (and Bisu).
It was ogn forcing him to train with the os w7 cuz they didnt want to use xp,then bisu came the day of the match to play and installed xp for him, before u start with the xp vs w7 apparently the muta'micro is stronger with xp :d

obviously don't want to commit to anything right now without actually knowing anything - earliest i would want to go will probably be in july/august
