Computer glasses are legitimate and are recommended by optometrists to people who work at a computer for extended periods of time and experience eye-strain even after following basic advice like the 20-20-20 rule. They basically are specially prescribed glasses for mid-range sight activities like looking at a monitor about 4 feet away, where normal glasses are intended for farther distances and sometimes don't work quite right (and ditto for reading glasses and very near distances). They also filter out certain kinds of light (similar to what sunglasses do) that monitors emit that can cause eye strain for some people / are specially designed to reduce glare, which is also a major cause of eye strain.
There's definitely some snake oil out there tho; I'd get the optometrist's opinion before buying, and you probably don't need them if you have no trouble reading the text on your monitor without glasses (which is sometimes just a matter of increasing the zoom).
Maybe your complaint is just about branding them as gaming, but there's my info dump anyway ;p

Yeah, glasses can make a huge difference. As someone who programs 8hrs a day then gets on a computer at home, it's a must for my eyes.
