If you haven't been keeping up with the 9th Sonic StarLeague info thread after Sonic announced that the original sponsorship fell through due to additional demands by the sponsor that Sonic and Kim Carrier decided they could not agree with, here are the answers to the questions that bothered us all:
• SSL9 will be sponsored by Sinbalfarm (Sonic's mafia shoe business) • New sponsor found - FIX (Humanworks.com) • Prizepool updated, same as SSL8 • Prizepool updated again, higher than SSL8. • Player List is now final, no notable changes • Schedule shifted from fridays/saturdays to thursdays/saturdays • New Maps by Earthattack released and available for download
There may still be changes to those based on the feedback of viewers and players.
Why a group selection ceremony anyway? What's it good for? You say that to me again after watching the last SSL's one:
Mad fun, awkward ceremonies, players teasing each other, hot chicks, nerdy boys, see y'all in the chat!
The TL BW staff will be (is already) working hard to provide you with the best coverage of SSL you've seen yet so start ordering those beers and BEARS AND FEEL THE SICKHYPE AND MY GOD THOSE MAPS
those maps really look promising but eh have to wait and see if it does come to nice gameplay anyway super hyped bout SSL9 shinbal farm is the only sponsor!
Golden cross is basically fighting spirit, and im gonna be honest when i say mist looks like an awful map. and if its not horribly terran skewed ill eat my shoe
Damn, now Earth Attack is stealing my show with vision blocker mechanics... That bridge is about the ugliest thing I have ever seen in any map though + Show Spoiler +
Units on the weird looking centre bridge of (2)Mist are blind.
Mist seems very good for zerg(finally), golden cross is boring tbh yay lets just put another jade/fighting spiritish map out there! excited to see Terror in SSL tho

Earthattack loves difficult units pathfinding T_T Interesting map concepts though. Will update LP asap.

This is always the first comment when a new map is announced. The map is like Jade/FS but without the Jade's very large ramp or FS' flat ground at the natural. Also not so much place in the middle to flank mech efficiently, so we can maybe expect difficult PvT. I don't think it will impact TvZ much, maybe just make it a bit more macro oriented.
As for Mist, protoss can still pull some Outsider shenanigans so it should be fine (and fun).
Does anyone know the location of sonic's studios, I'm planning on going to the matches but skipping the group selection ceremony. they are at different locations.

Looks like he skimped a bit on the deco for both maps. They both look pretty lackluster. Gameplay wise, they look pretty sick though.

I'm pretty sure he'll share instructions on how to get there when the time comes, if not I'll look it up for ya.

Too bad. This will still be a great event! Looking forward to it.
I wish there would be more new 2 player maps like Mist, they favor innovative play and early aggression as you don't have to spend time and money scouting where the other player is at the start.

2p maps can also allow stuff like option selecting CC first in TvZ.

Can't wait for the games to start!
This needs to happen.

Golden Cross has somewhat of an AI mining problem... Not a huge deal, just that the worker takes somewhat of a longer distance to mine in the top right on the bottom-most mineral patch.
9차 스타리그는 신발팜으로 진행 안합니다!! 지금 업체랑 계약서 도장 찍었구요 밤9시에 바뀌는 부분 공지로 올리겠습니다!
SSL9 will not be hosted with Sinbalfarm as the main sponsor. A deal has just been sealed(signed) with a new one (replacing that monkeybusiness) Announcement at 9PM KST tonight.
Awesome news, thanks for sharing it. Wonder what kind of business it is. Poor Sonic, he's going to have to print out those large backgrounds with new logos haha
Mist looks like a really fun map. A lot of my favorite maps were 2 player, and I am excited to see a new one. It feels like 2 player maps were really shunned the last couple of generations of maps.
