If I wanted to have nerds talk shit to me I would have stayed on the Madden forums. I come here to talk Brood War, not have elitist flash fanboys talk down to me like I don't belong. I clicked on the events and I saw no Brood War events. How do I block someone on here? User was temp banned for this post.

I sorta fell off the post-kespa era since level of play felt so much lower than before, but it seems like in the last year or 2 pros have gotten pretty good again, although only flash seems to be about as mechanically skilled as top players were in the kespa era? Or maybe that's just my nostalgia. But I think it makes sense since it's mostly the same players but older and slower and who practice less.

But compared to now, I think a lot of people glorify the Kespa-time a bit too much in hindsight as far as skill is concerned, those who do as if it was not even comparable. Surely, mechanically they were probably a bit better across the board, you had more S-rank-players constantly in practice and on stage (these days e.g. Jangbi and Fantasy don't play at all, Bisu is gone for a while, many strong former players come and go depending on slumps/RL-stuff I guess), and individual matches were better prepared. The pros' environment has changed with the streams, the viewers, the privacy between players. At the time all the broadcasted solo-league matches you would be able to catch were obviously much better prepared one by one, by full-time coaches and by countless practice-house-games to forge a once-to-be-seen-build-order. Today on the other hand they play countless of games publicly against each other every week which are competitive but not with as much on the line. That said, they probably know each others styles and weaknesses much better now, something new spreads much faster. Obviously they can still save stuff for important matches but the 1-1-1 for example, Flash was for a good part experimenting and optimizing that build on stream so it cannot have such an impact as if he did all that in the team-house and then rocked a fresh OSL with it. edit: Who said you need someones permission to post on TL as much as you like? xD As for BW as it is: definitelly worth following and posting about it.

People glorify the KeSPA era a bit too much imo. Sure, these are certain instances where you can see an obvious difference in macro or reaction time or w/e while other times, it's just not there anymore. The fact of that matter is that the players aren't forced to practice as much, and a player's run in a tournament comes down heavily to their mindset. It's part of the reason that Flash has won several ASLs, and dominated so much as well. Also, part of the reason that we see peaks and dips for some players (think hero getting 2nd/3rd in 2 straight ASLs, quite the achievement!). Flash vs Shuttle in ASL6 is a prime example of the clash of the mindsets so to speak. There have been many games where the players played top tier games, and they would've been mistaken for games from the KeSPA era if one were blindfolded and told to choose which are and aren't. This was something that a lot of old posters and vets have noted firsthand on TL. The other fact is that the meta has changed dramatically since then, with players being pretty knowledgeable compared to 2012. An example is when Sea talked about his Circuit Breaker game against Flash in ASL2 finals. I can't remember the exact specifics, but from what I recall, he didn't move out with his vulture, and the reason he cited was that he didn't know if Flash went for 8 or 9 rax or something because it makes that much of a difference. This also means that players will play more mind games too, more so when they know the other players quite well at this point. After all, did anyone forget that mind game Jaedong tried against Flash in ASL2 semis or the games vs Mind and Sharp with the pool first build on Benzene and Circuit Breaker? I'm pretty sure there's a lot of more examples that have been noted or missed through the years.

Sea vs Killer at their peak during summer of 2013 was incredibly good.

What evs: these guys rendered outstanding services to BW at the time in my eyes by just sticking around and streaming or participating in the existing or newly created tournaments. I guess the whole upcoming "business model" of balloons and streaming also touched BW due to their presence, even if, once this model established through other games/activities (cooking, showing cleavage, doing whatever), someone else might have had the idea to revive BW in that way.
