If possible designing it in such a fashion that the bonus only applies to opponents with similar or higher rating would be ideal (So that beating worse players doesn't become *THE WAY* to ladder). I'm of course assuming that automatic matchmaking isn't the obligatory and the only way to ladder.

I think it would be good if you gain less points if you win against an opponent of lower skill level than you.

Basically when you first start playing you have an uncertainty ranking, which means that you gain or lose points more quickly. If you keep winning vs higher ranked players you'll keep moving up the ranks quickly until you start losing, and vice versa for losing vs lower ranked players.

Can you give us any information about the map pool and how MOTW will work?

Closed beta (who and are they encouraged to talk about it publicly?) donations before the server is done (just for a tournament or for server costs; what's the monetary model for maintaining everything?) what is done and what isn't, specifically (APM live should not be a listed feature when it already exists), who are the people working on this and what are their roles, how are you solving port forwarding, specifically (like, really specifically, because I think some more experienced programmers might be able to point out security vulnerabilities, or we might be disappointed if it doesn't work for people who for whatever reason don't have access to their router [like if they share it])... These are some of my concerns when I see this thread bumped and there is no really concrete showing of what you've accomplished so far. You made a public thread and you actively keep it alive, but there is no transparency. It doesn't matter if it's just code, post it and talk about what it does. There is no reason to keep it under wraps when you let the genie out of the bottle before you'd even done any of the work. Just some cautionary words, since money is going to be involved ;p Everyone can make up their own mind about it, but let's at least ask ourselves why things are so vague. I know there's a lot of honest people involved with the project, and it will have a bigger impact if it all comes together at once instead of piece by piece, but make sure it has come together before you part with your money ;p This thread could have been used as a blog to keep the public posted on specifics, but instead months later the first update to the OP is just restating the features they want to have. A bit of skepticism is not unhealthy here.

Donations will go to the big tournament that we're planning to host after release, we're currently holding off on accepting any right now until we're much closer to release. What part of our project is completely done? None, however our hostbot and antihack is very close to finished. With the things we're planning to do, most parts of our project will be dependent on each other. For example, we want replays to be automatically uploaded, so our launcher would be dependent on our website. Statistics on our website will be dependent on the data provided by the game server and so on. We won't state any names of our staff unless it's the obvious ones, some people just don't want their names disclosed. Our plan for solving the port forwarding problem is to use UPnP(we're aware that there may be security concerns with this) and then fallback to our hostbot if UPnP isn't available. I'd be happy to talk about some specifics but I'm not sure how comfortable Birdie or the other staff members will be with that.

Yep, the current plan is to use Glicko for the ratings. We may have a separate points system just for the ladder, but my only concern with that is that it'll just be a less accurate version of your rating. It's more likely that we'll have a single Glicko2 skill rating, used for both ladder rank and also for the matchmaking, and certain rating boundaries will be where your letter (A B C D E) changes. A bit of skepticism is not unhealthy here. Closed beta hasn't started yet. Most likely there won't be any NDA for the closed beta. Donations won't be for server costs (unless the person currently paying the server bill wishes to no longer pay the server bill). I have a few plans for a way of financing the server beyond plain donations but nothing finalized yet, so there's no point talking about that yet. Some of the people involved don't want to be known, because if the project does not complete, they don't want their names associated with a failed project (fair enough). APM live isn't part of the iCCup launcher, which is the main server we're planning on "replacing". Xboi covered port forwarding, plus we're planning on users not having to host ladder games at all so port forwarding shouldn't matter for most users anyway. I'm aware there's no transparency and no concrete showing. Much of what we have isn't "presentable", as it's just code. We'll be releasing screenshots of the launcher UI when that's finished, and most likely of the website too when that's nearly done, but everything else isn't visual. As for a lack of transparency, there's nothing really to discuss. There's going to be a server, website, and launcher, we're coding them, launcher's near completion, server's near completion, website's coming along nicely. Not much more that I can say ![]() We won't be accepting donations until we're 100% certain that release will happen (basically after the closed beta donations will be opened, most likely).

Just want to ask how does hostbot works because the last time I tried to do a work around with upnp to open my port on my router it didn't work(which has a lot of problem can't portforward on it seems like the distributor mess up with the firmware program and other forumers agree with me it came together as a free gift with the internet I subscribe). Upnp doesn't work on my dlink DSL-2640B . Hopefully I will get to used this hostbot or my other option is to buy a new router to portforward so I can play on birdie server.

You can try to use custom firmware versions like DD-WRT(I'm not responsible if anything breaks).
