There'd be no point in releasing the source code when we open the server because pvpgn isn't like a web browser, there aren't any exploits for the community to discover and report.
It's Birdie's call when to give updates but i might throw a bit small pieces of info every once in a while like right now, we're having a healthy dev team.
About the name of the server, all of us shouldn't be surprised if we call it Bird or Birdy :p

I was thinking of calling it StarServer >.> but feel free to make suggestions everyone. I don't particularly want to have my name plastered over it, seems a bit vain to me.
Telecom, we won't be releasing daily nor weekly updates sorry. Major milestones will probably warrant an update though. I don't WANT to build massive hype because as it is an internet-based development project, there is a very good chance it will fail. And it isn't really possible to "open it to the community" because it would become a chaotic mess. Right now I've got a small team which each have specific jobs and we're focused and motivated; adding in 100 other programmers is certainly a possibility given the amount of offers of help I've had but it would achieve nothing and probably slow down the development of the server.
The source code could be released upon release of the server, it doesn't really matter though. We'll probably put it up on github or sourceforge or something later.

IMO a new server would be pointless; what we need is unification. we need everyone to go to 1 server, like when everyone would go to USWest for everything from koreans/clanby, to bgh/fastest, ums,. it's also where a noob player is most likely to go to if they just buy the game and log on battlenet without reading about iccup from teamliquid.
now everyone is spread out in every which server, koreans going to fish/afreeca/ect, money mappers (bgh and fastest) at east server, foreigners going to iccup, and noobies logging on to a completely dead west server. adding a new server would only increase the problem of segregation
with a unified server, preferably one of the battlenets, it's much easier for more competitive players to influence newer players into playing non-money maps and DLing programs like chaoslauncher/wdet

Going back to bnet is a dumb idea, there's completely no server-side support and there isnt even ladder. I agree that starting a new server will spread the community apart but iccup isn't willing to do anything to help the bw community nor is blizzard and Fish isn't a friendly place for non korean speakers at all.

I don't think you understand the situation. how can you even think about going on one of blizzard's servers? lol I am very surprised.
To your other point, yes it is splitting the community but ICCUP is giving us no choice. They haven't updated BW stuff in years and they have even banned casters of TLS over grudges. Initially, Bird will split the community, but once Bird stabilizes as a feature packed and efficient server, it will be the go to place for everyone and it will actually bring the community closer together than ever. Bird server will not disunite, it will unite in ways ICCUP could never achieve. Go Bird!
Right now we are all like citizens of North Korea. We are stuck with one government (ICCUP) with no other alternative. We seem united and content, but that is because we do not know anything else other than Communism (ICCUP). We do not know what lays beyond our borders. We are scared of change because this is all we have known for so long. But in reality, there is something better out there, the people of North Korea (BW scene) have so much more potential. We can do better than this dead beat husband we call ICCUP, we do not have to stay! Just give it a chance.
P.S. Everyone wants to be able to host games and have integrated matchmaking, how can you say no to this?!
